12ft & 13ft rods are good for long distance casting on big lakes and for controlling the lunges of hard fighting fish but I tend to fish smaller lakes, canals and rivers and many times an underarm cast is all that is needed. I find the lighter weight and 5ft transport length of a 2 piece 10ft rod more convenient than the 6ft plus of the longer rods. I also find with a 10ft rod I'm less likely to snag my line on tree branches and brambles around me. The transport length of my extendable net handle is just over 5ft so one or two 10ft rods and my landing net pack down together neatly which helps protect the rods and makes a mobile approach easier.

I think of purchasing one of the these rods in a 9ft for close in with a centerpin float and free lining tactics . My only concern is if the rod is a bit stiff for smaller fish say your tench and such. Is the action a through action?
@TheAnglerFiles2 ай бұрын
@gothicgorey I would say it may be a little stiff for smaller targets. I found on the 3lb the backbone kicks in just below the connection point of the 2 peices. It's a great rod, but I ended up getting 2.75 TC rods for more enjoyment with even smaller fish.

Hi! Do you know if there are any carp fishing places near Caledon/ Orangeville area? Great video!

New sub here, enjoy your videos. I think this is the rod I'll order for next year. Just wondering what # test braid you go with ?
@TheAnglerFiles11 ай бұрын
Welcome @Tilbily, I think you'll be happy with the rods. I have now had several 30's up to 38.10 lb with them and they are great. As for the braid, usually 30 lb power pro slick 8 v2 is what I use, and when on mono, 15 lb Gardner GTHD.

@@TheAnglerFiles ordered this rod after your reply. Painful wait for a warmup to cast it. But man, you're spot on. Good bang for the buck, and great cast distance if needed. Cheers !

Thanks for this i'm in the USA looking for my next set of carp/pike/catfish rods can these throw pack bait ok with a 2.5 or 3oz feeder lead?
@TheAnglerFiles Жыл бұрын
I have used pack bait with them. I don't go to heavy with it or try to cast to far. But it does handle some pack bait to 50 or so yrds

Thanks for getting the Review out John. I've always liked the cork handles and my float rods are cork the only downside I've had with them is I've had mice take a liking to them in the garage

I really couldn't say what the internal components are. I have handled a lot of big fish with these reels up to just over 38 lbs and they work as well as they did day 1. I am not careful with my gear either.

Good blanks, nice handles, but the guides are very poor . I had 2 inserts fall out the first time I used mine, a well known problem. At least the newer 'plus' model is fitted with Minimas.
@TheAnglerFiles2 жыл бұрын
Ive used mine the the heat of summer and down to sub zero temps. Bounced them off rocks and thrown them in the bushes. As of yet, I've had no issues. Plenty of quality fish landed and they perform fantastically.
