One of my favorite of all live jazz recordings by any band or artist. Wynton Kelly is supreme, and always swings with a huge beat and full of happy swingin' ideas and hip chords and an amazing groove. George Coleman is simply on fire here and sounds like he's enjoying himself with this phenomenal trio. 500 Stars for the amazing Jimmy Cobb and Ron McClure sounds great too while filling in some very big shoes having to replace an ailing Paul Chambers.

Fun fact; Wynton Kelly was deaf in one ear and when he would play a club and the piano was in a position that would have his good ear facing the wall, they would have to turn the piano around so his good ear was facing the band so he could hear them.Kind of interesting, one of the most swinging jazz musicians in history with impeccable time could only hear through one ear.

I love Big George. He's an amazing though underappreciated master tenor player. The entire ensemble is straight up smoken. Who are the putz's who gave this recording a thumbs down.

Underappreciated by who? The African American community holds him in high esteem. We don't rate, classify and judge our musicians story. We listen and relate.LOL

@@albertbrown359 Underappreciated by white educators and white students coming out of Berklee, the New England Conservatory, etc. and musicians I've had to work with. I'm Black and I've had to deal with white racist educators, students and musicians in the 30 plus years that I've played this music. When Smitty Smith played in my band I nearly had to pull him off of one such racist pianist who's name I will not mention.

@@kbh4950 And I do as well.Racism runs deep into our music.I am friends with many living and expired musicians. I don't need the caucasian perspective on the very music that derives out of my forefathers experience as well as my own. They listen while I am feeling the whole message. Peace!

@@albertbrown359 Yes, you may not need the caucasian perspective but they run the institutions that teach Jazz. The real tragedy is that many of the Black students in these institutions are clueless...they accept the twisted history of this music called Jazz. For example John Coltrane invented triad pairing back in 1963 (Coltrane Plays the Blues) according to my late friend the great Charlie Banacos and another educator in Boston has taken credit for his invention.

My children were not educated at their institutions and even if they were they were already prepared psychologically to take what is good and discard all that is not useful. That is our responsibility as African American parents to our children .Prepare them from the cradle properly for the storm of falsity that the European will caste at them. Been there still doing that.
