Yes you literally can see the material get more clear as you sand to finer grits. thanks for watching Sam

Yes, turning this stuff is a bit of a pain but the results are very cool. Sam

WYOMINGWOODTURNER Exactly, the results are well worthwhile. I like acrylics for pens and probably have taken finishing to a whole new level of OCDness but it makes me happy and the results are great. I'll be starting to fire turning videos up because there's a few boys on here putting relentless pressure on me, pressure that would break a lesser man (I know they'll be reading this), but I'm sorting a couple of videos out now.

A great 2 part project Sam. I'd like to know more about the wobble when you put the two parts together and what you did to reduce it. Threads are something I want to get better at but the wobble does put me off. Cheers, Ben

Thanks for watching my vids..... the wobble, or the pieces being out of round is nothing different from a piece of wood. I think one of the things that caused this was not starting the box between centers. Using a spur drive and a live center assures the piece will be true from the beginning. I cut the two bits apart on the bandsaw then turned a tenon on each end. This caused them to start out-out of true. I will do it different next time. Sam

Alan You might have noticed that I can't seem to settle on a signature piece. I have ordered some 1/2 inch acrylic and I am going to try to turn a finial. I am quite insane. I am going to experiment with the 2 inch stuff in making inlays. Turning boxes with the stuff is a real pain. Thanks for watching. Sam

Cool project Sam. Just a thought/question.....I wonder how Eee would work on plastic since it breaks down to finer and finer grit as you go?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER

Yes I do use it on resins and acrylics. Sam

That looks really nice. I was always told that after each grit of paper you should clean off your project. They claim that you could leave behind some of the grit and continue to scratch your work. What is your view on that?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER 9 жыл бұрын
+Charles “Tim” Reicks Yes, that is important to do. I don't always follow that advice. When I get to 1500 grit I use the little 2 x 2" square pads. I think the grit or whatever won't come off that stuff. Sam

Cool box! May I ask why you went to the other lathe at the end?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER 10 жыл бұрын
Tobias I watched the very end of the video again. Well.....the short answer is I have no idea. I even mention in the video that I am taking the piece to the small lathe to complete. But I really had no reason to do that. Sometimes I move back and forth from one lathe to the other. I sometimes have my videos spread out over a much longer period of time and will put a different piece on one lathe and move my project to another. If I remember I will get back to you. Too weird. Sam

At 17:00 You say that you will take it to your delta
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER 10 жыл бұрын
Tobias Redepenning I figured it out. I went out to the shop this morning for the day, and saw my delta lathe. At once I remembered that I took the piece with the screw chuck to the smaller lathe cause it had a tailstock set up. I seldom put my tailstock onto the PM because it weighs a LOT. I used the tailstock at first so I could turn faster and true up the acrylic. In the last shot I had it balanced and had the tailstock removed. Glad I am not totally nuts. Sam

What tools do you use to chase threads and where do you get them from?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER 10 жыл бұрын
I have Crown (Hartville tool in Ohio) These are the least expensive with free shipping. I also have the ones offered by Craft Supply in Provo. Not sure about the brand. They are also good. I also have Robert Sorby. I think any of these are good. I see no great difference in any of them. I have 10-12-16-18- and 20 TPI chasers. I would recommend starting with the 16's. I have a playlist of chasing videos. Have you seen it? lots of information on the tools etc. Sam
