I’m not mad at men who think real men shouldn’t cry...I’m sad for them. I’ve grown up in a world that’s told me I should be one of them. It sucks. I hope they figure it out soon because honestly there’s sometimes nothing better than a good cry. Sometimes it’s needed.

@speeeee355 жыл бұрын
Love yourself is about Chantal Jeffries (Justin’s mom loved Selena) and the original lyrics are “If you like the way you look so much then maybe you should go and fuck yourself.” also it’s written by Ed Sheeran but I’m pretty sure Justin co-wrote it and obviously wouldn’t sing a song he couldn’t relate to..... anyway.... the original lyrics are “fuck yourself” which makes SOOOOOOO much more sense but of course they couldn’t have the F word in the chorus if they wanted it to be a big hit so they changed it to love yourself lol. He wasn’t telling someone “you should love yourself❤️❤️❤️” as if they needed better self esteem lol..... he was saying, “if you’re so self absorbed, why don’t you stop messing around with me and go fuck yourself instead?” THATS why it’s the best lyrics LOL. I am always shocked by people who don’t listen to lyrics at all like to the point they think the song is about the opposite what it’s about. Not in a mean way, some people prefer the beat, I just mean for me I always listen to the lyrics most of all and play it back if I miss something or can’t make something out the first time I listen to a song. Like I base 60% on if I like a song or not on the lyrics lol so that’s why it’s weird to me.

I think what she means when she says “I needed to hate you to love me” because it’s so hard to leave a toxic relationship. No matter how bad things get you want to stay with that person... eventually when you go through so much toxicity you hate that person and that’s when you’re capable of making the choice to leave. No matter how awful things are you love that person, until you don’t.., and then you leave. I think it’s an important line in the song.
@marielarce99315 жыл бұрын
I agree but i belive it also means theirs no in between its either you keep hating yourself or decide to leave the person and the ONLY way to leave them in the past is to end up hating them. TO REGAIN YOUR LIFE.
@BelieveInMyDaydreams4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you both and I also think it's about the fact that when you're in love with the person you're being abused by (at least emotionally) you don't want to believe it's their fault. Because you love them. So if it's not their fault the only option is that it's yours. So you blame and hate yourself. You can't truly love yourself until you let yourself see the blame does lie with the other person and not you.
@shannondavidson6834 жыл бұрын
I take it slightly different. She says "I NEEDED to hate you to love me". The "needed" to me, is showing that because of the toxic way she was treated, she had to get to a place of hating him in order to be able to leave him for good. Most relationships don't require you to hate the person in order to leave them. Anyway, just my thought / opinion
@stephaniejcy Жыл бұрын
@@shannondavidson683 I'm so late! But you're completely right, i went through that and the only thing that made me leave was me realizing how shitty i was being treated, i hated how he blamed me for everything and i started "hating" him and that was the exact moment i knew i was worth more than a few crumbs of love. So I'm sure that by that phrase she means, i needed to hate him to know my worth and have my self love as a little something, at least a single "rope" that i can hold on to, to get out of this hell hole"

She was in a very toxic relationship and most likely suffered narcissistic abuse. It starts slowly and you don’t realize it and you believe all the lies and manipulations. They make you feel crazy, punishing you when they don’t get their way, then blaming you and making you believe you deserved it while never caring about how they hurt you. ...or that you are ill or already going through something. It’s so hard to get out of these kinds of relationships because of the effects of the abuse and trauma bonding and it takes a long time to heal. I hope she is able to stay away from him. ♥️

Ileana Guerra - you’re right in that an abusive person must have a victim. When you’re young and idealistic, you think you can “help” that narcissistic- selfish person. So you stay and yes, allow behaviors that are sometimes- deplorable. But... You grow and learn and hopefully get away. It doesn’t matter if it’s 10 months or 10 years, it’s important you learn that you can’t love someone into being a better human being. I respectfully disagree- a narcissistic isn’t a victim, but rather a manipulative and cunning individual, who preys upon the empathetic and kind hearted.

I think the song is very positive because it is about coming into your strength despite a relationship that suppressed it and even found you willingly giving up your power. The song sounds like an examination of a past relationship that hurt deeply and was hard to overcome. She's looking at it honestly and sees how she contributed to how things played out, not just what the other person did in the relationship. Often times, songs can depict a victim/perpetrator type thing. This song doesn't do that. She lives in her strength now and can look at the relationship as a lesson learned. This is an excellent song that will resonate as long as human hearts beat.

Wow everyone in this world has the same pain and feeling, like our queen has.
@alanmercieca30865 жыл бұрын
This song was about many painful events that happened in her life since the release of her Revival album, yes it's partially about her relationships, in a non offensive way, yet it's about a lot of other things, like how some of her own 'so called' fans bullied her, yet she is not directly calling anyone out. She also said that she tried to take the experiences in her life and make them more relatable to what goes on in normal life. She released the song for two major reasons. 01) To help people feel better, about what they are going through, helps them to not feel like the only ones, helps them to grieve. 02) For her own healing, she refuses to let anyone silence her voice, a lot of foolish untrue lies have been told about her, and she has the right to defend herself. Justin Bieber's fans have been bullying her aggressively online since late 2010, and the bullying started in 2009, when Justin said in a Radio interview that he thinks that Selena's pretty. In 2010 and 2011, a majority of them had sent her death threats, threats of violence, Justin knows how dirty they are, and he takes advantage of them and uses those fans of his for his own gain, no matter who it hurts. Clearly Selena told him that she is releasing this song, Justin came clean on his instagram about what he did shortly before the song's release, in a way that his fans went after her, I am sure he knew it would happen too, just like the song he sang in for Chris Brown June 2019, was just a repeat of negative/fake online gossip that Justin's fans were saying about Selena. I highly doubt that was just a coincidence. Justin's cousin went on instgram live somewhat recently with a friend of his. They mocked Muslims while one of them was dressed like a woman, they said they were going to go and bomb Selena's house and so on. It seems like Justin's sister is the only nice one, in that family. She misses Selena a lot. Selena is the kind of person that is unusually nice/unusually forgiving, then eventually she looses her cool and explodes over bad things happening to her, that don't get better. In Selena's case, with Justin, Justin was on hard core drugs while he was with her, and I strongly believe that they broke up repeatably because of his drug use, Justin has indirectly admited this by telling the world when he was on hard core drugs. I suspect that he started using the hard core drugs shortly after they got back together again in early 2013, in 2013 is when he started the hard core drugs. Hard core drugs are very abusive to the person taking them and to those around the person taking them. I think that what the drugs did to him and her destroyed most of the trust that she had in him, and in time after he stopped taking them, what little trust she had left in him was shattered. Some damage can not be undone. She has admitted that she has not dealt with the things that happened between them as well as she could of. Yet she is only human, and he has put her through a lot of BS. He has tried to directly sick his fandom on her once, at first it backfired on him, and most of his fans supported Selena. Then in time they went back to their dirty ways, hating on her. This music video was made with 1 iphone, the 'Look At Her Now' music video they had iphones mounted from every angle.

This song when i first heard it hit me pretty deep once i really started to listen to the words. Because my most previous relationship was with narcissistic mental abuser who made things seem so perfect then turned on me and played with my hurt like a song and the sounds of my hurt were his moment of peace. On top of that he made me almost think that it was me that needed to change and that i was the crazy one. So this song is almost too deep for me to listen to at times.

Montana Guys this is about her relationship with Justin bieber and how he replaced her with someone else. In two months he married someone else
@DominikaJankowski5 жыл бұрын
In two months he started dating someone else (at least that's when they were spotted together), they got engaged one month after that and married 2 months later.. so like 5 months after the break-up (which is still really fast)

Watching y'all react made me more emotional, lol. Without fail, when she sings, "two months to replace us/like it was easy/made me think I deserved it/in the thick of healing," I start crying, every. single. time. The way she sings that part hits *so* hard.

i reacted to this on my channel and boy did it hit me hard. this entire year i have been in and out of a toxic relationship and i finally had to be done with it about 2 months ago... which killed me because i would've given that man everything. i would've married him and had kids with him but i quickly learned my self-worth and that i shouldn't allow someone to treat me the way he did. now i'm a totally different person, i have more confidence in myself and had to learn to love myself. so while the relationship was toxic, i had to go through that to come out a better person. great reaction guys!

You guys should react to Gomez's "Back to You" and "a heart wants what it wants" and that'll help give some context to this song. I agree with your "hate you to love me" critique. As we get older and wiser with experience, we realize people are messy. We never fall in love with perfect. Love makes us see imperfect as perfection, and Justin Bieber was going through his own bit of a life crisis. Hopefully, with time and experience, Selena will see that and truly heal in compassion that also releases herself from blame. Touching review, guys, from a fellow Midwesterner on the heels of the Ozarks.

Laurie Davies I get way more emotional to “ The Heart Wants What It Wants.” Those lyrics and that video are heartbreaking. I remember when it first came out, she would cry while performing it live.

Sara01977 Me too. It's such an amazingly raw and vulnerable song. Took a lot of guts for her to put that out. Especially with a line like, "Save your advice cause I won't hear." And knowing millions knew who that song was about and all their back and forth drama offering up their advice to "get over him." That is probably my favorite of Selena's. We've all been there.

What's crazy is I had no idea how much I needed this video. I knew about her song, and loved it, but the meaning changed for me because I'm going through something recently, that song is basically what I'm going through right now. I lost myself when I got sick 5 years ago, it shattered me like I had no idea was possible, and finding a life after a part of you is missing and can never get back, is rough. And jumping into a relationship because I felt forced to by family & circumstances, was a very bad idea. And 2.5 years later, after the start of the relationship, things degraded over time, the love faded, til there was nothing left but ice, which is where I found myself, frozen in time and in a toxic relationship. It took that long to hit me & wake me up. So her song changed meaning for me big time. I've started loving myself and finding myself again after 5 years of living like I'd given up and was ready for my illnesses to hurry up and overtake me. But treatments have changed my outlook, and even though I'll never be able to work in the traditional sense, and that my current relationship is ending, I finally feel relief and independence and like I'm ready to save my own ass. It's very bittersweet to me. But I did need to lose him to find me.

Came across your video after 3 years! I am currently hooked with Selena's songs after watching her documentary, My mind and me. Before watching it, my initial realization of the song was that its about a past love shes overcoming. But after I watched the documenraty, I realized the song was something more. It was I think about herself. Overcoming the struggles she's been through with herself, the physical and mental illnesses, career and relationships problems. I got emotional listening to the song after that documentary as if I was listening to it the 1st time. The lyrics are so touching. Losing herself with all the battles in life she's been but also finding and loving herself. I still think though some part of the song's about a past relationship. Just saying
