Wyrd: Malifaux 3E- Lady Justice Core Box unboxed and built!

Time for a re-imagining of an enduring Malifaux character- Lady J!
Her crew for the most part hasn't changed. Death Marshalls, the Judge, and the Lady with the keenest eye that looks inward, just like old times.
I'm liking the new Death Marshalls. Interesting poses. They seem more stable than the original plastic ones, and we don't have a giant in their ranks either.
Judge is a bit more static, especially compared to the 2E model. I like her. It's nice having dignified sword wielding women on the tabletop.
Lady Justice is a bit of a change. Her pose seems more wild to me, whereas 2E she was all stealthy ninja assassin looking. She also constantly came off her base. That doesn't seem like it'll be a problem this time.
Construction wasn't too bad. Death Marshalls were the worst offenders by far, with the one posed atop her flaming coffin the winner in that regard. Despite the ridiculous amount of tiny flames that needed gluing on, they were all pretty intuitive as to where they went.

They're fun kits to build, especially if you have masochistic tendencies and like lots of tiny little parts that are easily lost in the carpet!

I’m just starting to get into Malifaux... what do you recommend as a beginner?

To play, build, or both? I'm not expert on the game, but I thought The Dreamer box was a pretty straightforward set. Plus you get the giant Lord Chompy Bits in it. The Euripides crew was pretty easy (and big) to work with.

The 1E metals? Hmm... I don't know about that. The marshals were all still human pretty much, the judge is hatless and has his sword in his armpit, and Lady J is just standing around. The metal variant of J is a nice model though. I liked the 2E Judge. I wish the new Lady J didn't look like she was swinging her sword... so blindly?

A lot of people are really underwhelmed with the 3e sculpts...myself included. They need to bring their old sculptor back.

Surprisingly I've enjoyed building the 3E kits a lot more than the 2E ones. I think some crews fared worse than others. Lady J's crew seems to have gotten off alright. The new marshal poss work well and feel a bit sturdier. J and the Judge are alright- they look good but there's nowhere near as much pizzazz as there was with their previous models.

they may be easier to build but the sculpt quality, especially the poses, is a big step backwards.

I strongly disagree. I absolutely love the newer models exactly because they're more plain, but still very easy to identify. I have ton of 2e sculpts, but for example this box really makes me want to start Guild.. and I hate Guild :D

We talking kickstarted RH models? Absolutely a lot of those weren't very fun trying to build. The new stuff though has been smooth and enjoyable. This crew really wasn't that bad. Even that one coffin with all those ridiculous little flame parts went together easily enough. There are certainly worse crews I've had the (dis) pleasure of fighting my way through assembly with.

@@ObscuritiesinMiniature I just recently bought the Exemplar Pack (10 minis), and man... some are quite messy (flash) and a ton of fiddly bits, also not much on assembly instructions out there.

Yeah, my condolences if those are the more lightly armored scifi girls. The newer sets like their Crimson Redeemers and the Vanquishers went together sooooooooo much better. Like buttah! I mean, even I sold and traded off the bulk of my original (fairly hefty) Kickstarter pledge after trying to build some of it. The troops were horrible, straight up. At least the hero models tended to be a *bit* better. Y'all oughta just ask me what's safe to buy as I willingly inflict some of these kits on myself!
