The dialogue in this is literally word for word from the book, and not a single page missing. Every scene, every movement and inflection is exactly as written. The witches are exactly as I pictured them, and the rest of the characters are spot on. This film has got to be - hands down - the most faithful adaptation of a novel in existence.

@@the_unrepentant_anarchist. My husband learned about the Discworld through my laughing out loud at various sections from the books over the years. He's told me that I'm a lot like Susan mixed in with Granny Weatherwax and a little of Nanny Ogg and I consider that a high compliment since Granny Weatherwax is one of my favourite characters. I found The Shepherd's Crown" disturbing and upsetting because of the death of Granny Weatherwax, the introduction of a rather one-dimensionally unbelievable character - the 'calm weaver' - and, like most who've read the book, because it was Pratchett's last ever novel.
@the_unrepentant_anarchist.3 жыл бұрын
@Kybele Kordax- Upsetting indeed! To be honest though, I think T.P had been planning to kill off Granny Weatherwax for a while. I'm sure there were a few hints in previous books, but what was most upsetting to me, was the way you could tell, certainly from 'Unseen Academicals' onwards, that his illness was beginning to affect his writing. The books are great, and for those who don't like the live action, Sean Astin and Tim Curry were perfect in Color of Magic. BTW, look up the right order for the books, if you are going to read them.

The last time we were lucky enough to have someone as talented as T.P. was when Will Shakespeare was around. His is a great loss to humanity. I consider myself fortunate indeed to have been alive during his own lifetime, though future generations will also (insert your own verb/s here) the Discworld. A legacy to rival that of the Bard himself. I've always greatly admired, and enjoyed immensely, Terry's ability to hold up a mirror to human ridiculousness. I hope his encounter with Death was as pleasurable for him as he deserved, and as pleasurable also for the many encounters he provided for his readers. RIP, Terry. Long live Pratchett!

+Tom Foyle I'm with you there. Will Shakespeare still has the power to make me laugh. I particularly enjoy the movie versions of his works staged in modern dress, it makes you realize how contemporary his plays are, but then mankind hasn't really changed much!

+Tom Foyle I'd probably enjoy Shakespeare a lot more if it didnt take an unnecessary amount of deciphering to determine what the hell he was trying to say in the first place. Old English is one giant pain in the ass to understand. I remember my senior year reading Macbeth. Our teacher was really into it and the students couldn't even understand the story (Mind you she was one fucking atrocious teacher. On grad day we just destroyed her car with spray paint) The only thing we got out of Macbeth was that witches like mischief.
@Zer0d00d7 жыл бұрын
+Scythe-Master Inc. Then it sounds like you really got nothing out of Macbeth. Didn't you hear? Witches don't like meddling. I assume meddling includes mischief. Still, hard not to imagine a teenaged Esme burying an incompetent instructor's car/carriage/house under a mountain of droppings via entering the mind of every incontinent bird in a ten mile radius.

+Yuko Wolfang EXACTLY. One of THE most classic examples of why Pratchett's Death is the best. You literally see him going from correcting the actor's lines, that he probably just overheard, to fumbling over those same lines a moment later. He didn't forget them, that is a classic example of stage fright. Death, who has existed before recorded history and reaped millions of souls, got stage fright. If anyone is still reading this long-winded comment, read Pratchett's Reaper Man if you haven't already.

Bonus fact: Death is of the only character, who you can find in all of Prachett's books. Even if just for one line, but hr is allways there.

I've always really loved Discworlds version of Death. There have been comedic versions of the Grim Reaper before but a lot of the time they portray him as kind of a loser who is trying to be scary (undestandably, the juxtaposition of a scary image and a dorky personality is funny). Death here is just a guy doing his job because he has to and everybody just accepts it. That whole attitude is a big reason why I love the book series, you get fantastical creatures and events and people are just like "yeah, that makes sense, well anyway, does anybody fancy a cuppa?" because this is just the norm for the strange land of Discworld. I love it, I think would be the main thing to take away from this wall of fangirling text.
