It's so important to read the Discworld series in a particular order. I was lucky enough to mostly read this in the order they were published as I got hooked on Pratchett early. You enjoy it so much more because of the inside jokes on the characters who've been introduced before.

Wyrd Sisters is one of those books where, when I first read it, I didn't know the full referential context of it. But then once I revisited it with a greater understanding I went "Ohhhh. Oh this is good." It's thanks to this book and Terry Pratchett that I discovered the actual origins of Wicca, as well as the existence of Gerald Gardner, and while many fans point to Guards! Guards! as the moment Discworld first took the form we would all be familiar with, I think Wyrd Sisters is more deserving of that title. Good book!

I love Wyrd Sisters and the Witches in general. Just listened to the new recording by Indira Varma, enjoyed it very much. Everyone always raves about and recommends the Watch and Death while Rincewind gets thrown under the bus with books one and two, and it upsets me that people seem to forget about the Witches.

Nooooooo!! It has to be Guards! Guards! The characters are really well shaped into the Discworld.

I saw the animation before reading the book. I also saw The Adaptation of Johny and the Dead before reading any Discworld so noticed that Pratchett uses the idea of moving a spirit via a stone of their haunting in both.

That's so cool, I'd love to see the animation! I love that idea of moving the spirits via stone. :)

Hi, Mouse. I also do like references in a story told. Not only for the fun of recognising those, but because references show us the world as connected at such many layers. And Shakespeare is always the best reference ever (he knew how to fill his magic into those words). Maybe the "lollygaging" with Geralt in the Witcher-world did influence your growing interest in witches... ;-) bonté

It's true, references are great. :) And lol about the lollygagging!

I've read about 10 discworld books and out of those Wyrd Sisters is probably one of my least favorite. That is probably partly because the Finnish translation which i read isn't really that great. Also I think that I don't know Shakespeare's works well enough to understand most of the references. But anyway, I really like your Pratchett reviews. I discovered your channel because of them.

That's interesting! I guess that's the problem with relying on references so heavily as in this book and a few of the others... Thank you, I'm glad you found me!
