Wyrmspan Review - It's Basically Wingspan But Better...For Us At Least

Balancing what to go for and how to get the most points is really something that comes with time. Same in Wingspan. Sometimes it's just not worth it to pursue a bonus card (in wingspan) or an end of round goal (in both games), if you sacrifice points elsewhere. So knowing what to pursue and what to let go is really part of the learning curve.

My oldest also has a thing about birds so Wingspan just would never hit our table, as much as I think our family would enjoy it otherwise. Wyrmspan seems like it would be a good fit for us with that in mind. The only real concern I'd have after that is if it's playable on a normal-sized kitchen table as that's where we do most of our gaming. :)

None of the cards mattering and not being that interesting is why Endless Winter fell so flat for us. It was a hodge-podge of mechanics, but overall just didn't work good enough. Is Dune Imperium the one that is often in these comparisons? LOL, Meg got it in the end. Shame on Alex missing it. :)

Interesting the thing that Meg didn't like I don't think will affect me since I'm only going to play it 2 players most of the time but at the same time suffers from the non refreshing row issue. Maybe in 2 players it needs a rule that refreshes the market each round?

At all player counts you do refresh the cards at the start of each round. I think the issue Meg is referring to is that over the course of six or more turns in around the cards weren't refreshing fast enough. Wingspan expansions added a refresh ability in the row activation which could help

Based on everything I've seen this is a better game than Wingspan. I absolutely like it better. However it's not so much better than Wingspan that I'd buy this and get rid of Wingspan, especially as my family loves Wingspan and I'm all in on Wingspan.

Your thoughts about the cards not feeling unique or special is actually exactly why I didn’t love Wingspan, especially when compared to Everdell. I just have no attachment to any of the cards, and as a result they just felt very random

This is near the top of my list now because of the way you guys and our friends have talked about it, especially in it being better than wingspan. The theme was enough to keep me from getting wingspan but the theme for wyrmspan is the cherry on top for me.

Seems like it plays best at 2-3 and has low player interaction with uninteresting cards (besides the art). I think I will stick with Wingspan: Asia for now.

I bought "Wingspan", I won't buy another "Wingspan". Also, those dragon pictures and the art style is pretty bad. Also, "Wingspan" wasn't that great in my experience.
