My Grandad lived there and he showed me all around Wythenshawe, when I visited him back in the 70's, such lovely memories! He lived on Peel Hall RD.

Loved your Wythenshawe pics. I remember living there in the 1970s, my gran lived near Sale Circle on Carloon Rd and my father's parents lived in Westage Gardens on the other side of the park. I live in Melbourne, Australia. If you have stills of Sale Circle, I would love to see them. Ann

The Cornishman Shops as you have them labeled here were bitterly known as the 103 shops as that was the terminus for the 103 bus. Later the 103 changed its number there and went back as the 106 via Peel Hall. It’s hard to think that back in the day Manchester Council put on bus tours from all over Manchester to show would be residents how beautiful Wythenshawe was. If you think of the slums and back to backs all over the place it was built to relieve. Basically a garden estate, grass edges, trees, playing space for kids, gardens. It was actually a dream to live there. My folks were tempted over from Gorton. Something else surprises me in all these wythenshawe slide shows not one mention of Ringway (Manchester international) airport. It was an integral part of the wythenshawe life.
