I've been using Wyze products since the company began and joined their beta program. There have been lots of glitches and bugs along the way but that is expected with beta software and products. I have no direct experience with the lock but I have noticed on the Wyze forums that there have been a lot of issues with the lock, mostly related to the issues you talked about in this video. More concerning are issues with the lock spontaneously locking and unlocking. Anyone considering using this lock should probably check the forums first. Thanks for another great video and review.

@AutomateYourLife4 жыл бұрын
I would say that it depends on your usage. The August Smart Lock Pro is a little more of exactly that, a higher level lock. If you're looking at a main entrance, I'd be looking at August's new smart lock pro there. If it's a side door, this is fine for many folks. :)

When i am not home I’m not able to unlock with the app the door it’s say that it’s not connected and it’s showing me a little cloud.
@AutomateYourLife3 жыл бұрын
So that means for some reason it's not on your network at home, or that it's not able to reach the internet even if it's staying on the network. It's likely the first, and could mean your WiFi isn't able to hold on to the device. You may have already done this, but do a little testing by just turning off your WiFi on your app and see if you can unlock it while you're home.

It's actually a great option for apartments. You don't need a Zigbee hub as it comes with it's own WiFi connectivity port. You just use Alexa and/or the Wyze app to control (or the pinpad...highly recommended).

Great job, Brian! You got to the point I was going to try to make at the very end. Many will be better off with a Schlage or other "full-featured" smart-lock on their main entrance, but having this on another outside entrance to the house as in the garage side door you describe seems like a good and affordable "solution." Oops, I just realized I was watching you at about an arm's length so better send this and back away... Stay safe, my friend.

Great review, Brian! I needed a lock like this because I live in an apartment. I had a Schlage lock with a touchpad for quite a while before the management made me take it down since it wasn't uniform with the rest of the apartments. Kind of a bummer, but whatever. I ended up with an August gen 3 lock based on the name and reputation over the years. Plus I got it for $40 USD, which made it a no brainer. Now I'm in search of a discreet peephole camera that doesn't break the bank and doesn't require too much modification to the 15mm hole that's already drilled through the door. I do have some room to work with since my current peephole has a plate around it on the outside of the door. The hurdle that I'm running into is being able to connect it to my WiFi network. There are plenty of the cheap ones that have their own viewer, but they are limited to just that viewer. I thought about re-purposing a backup camera for a vehicle or just running a bare 1000TVL camera inside the existing peephole, but there is still the issue of connecting it to my network. A wireless transmitter would be great, but the best low cost setup involves running the camera leads into a DVR, then connecting the DVR to my router with and Ethernet cable. UGH, so frustrating! Anyway, stay safe!
@AutomateYourLife4 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike - Thanks! You didn't want to look at Amazon's Doorbell that goes over the peep hole hey? I realize that might get you into trouble but I think the whole point of that product is that you can just go back to the old one. It's a tough one in the apartments for sure.
@mikeoleksa4 жыл бұрын
@@AutomateYourLife, I'll have to take another look at that one. It may not stand out since there is already an existing brass plate there. It wouldn't be something that really stands out, like the keypad on the Schlage lock did putting something there that was completely out of the ordinary.
