VERY IMPORTANT CASE UPDATE: On September 30, 2019, Thomas Hahn was sentenced to serve a MINIMUM of 20 years to a MAXIMUM of 30 years in prison, TO BE SERVED CONSECUTIVELY!!! Hahn was also ordered to serve 3-5 years for driving while intoxicated, causing serious impairment. That sentence is to be served CONCURRENT to the primary sentence. Hahn was also ordered to pay, $260,000 in restitution to the family. (This will be IN ADDITION to any amount the family is entitled to and awarded under a civil lawsuit). FINALLY, a DRUNK driver is given a much deserved sentence for such a heinous crime. (Thank you Judge Michelle Rick for giving a just & swift sentence to this animal).

Thank you for the update. I am glad that the monster is serving his first twenty years, and then they will determine if he will get out (if he actually makes it twenty years in prison) and then decide if he should serve the remaining ten or if he goes out on probation. He will be 75 at the end of twenty years, and he will be 85 if he has to serve the remaining TEN years.

How would he be able to pay back that much money though? I've always wondered that. He'll make a pittance at a prison job, maybe, so does car insurance cover at least some of it?
@thelittlebrownranch91054 жыл бұрын
@@ElizabethT45 - I believe each state is different but in my state insurance only pays up to the max coverage for the greater of the policies. Hypothetically, if the shithead had $20k in coverage per accident and the family had $50k in coverage then the max the family could get would be $50. Health insurance companies do not like to pay for expenses incurred in an accident but I have always used my health insurance to get treated for motor vehicle accidents (Yeah - I share the road with too many asses.) then there is a discussion for reimbursement to the health insurance when the accident claim is settled. It is all very messy. As always, here in the US there is a LOT of support for the shitheads while the rest of us are struggling to survive. =(

And he was ordered to pay, $260,000 in restitution to the family. This is IN ADDITION TO any other amount the family is entitled to and awarded under a civil lawsuit. #RIPMommaAndReedLaHaie
@angelajames79174 жыл бұрын
@@nikkib5753 That's better at least. I still don't understand the purpose of concurrent sentences. If they are served at the same time as another crime, it is like there was no consequence/punishment for that one. I doubt he will ever pay the restitution with being in jail. They should sell everything the drunk owns at least. Thanks for the update.
@nikkib57534 жыл бұрын
@@angelajames7917 I can help you with the understanding of concurrent sentences. In this case there are 2 factors. Hahn took a plea deal. When an offender takes a deal, the goal is for him to gain something out of sparing the courts a trial and the victims or family from facing a trial. Makes sense right? He really did not get much of a "gain". In plea deals, the defendant will plea to the MOST SERIOUS charge, and ALL other minor charges can be included into the serious charge. Especially since all of the charges stem from ONE event. Makes sense right? You see, a driving while intoxicated charge is VERY minor to the DUI vehicular manslaughter charge. So for the DA and a court to agree to take a charge with a minimum 3 year sentence and combine it with 2 MAJOR charges that carry a very lengthy sentence, they really aren't losing anything and are gaining ALOT. So they give him a "concurrent" on it because all they really want is the BIG sentence. Its kind of a win/win for everyone. Does that help you understand it? On the restitution part, yes you are right about him not being able to pay it. There are however other ways. Because a judge ordered it, he will have a lein placed on EVERYTHING. If he owns a house, it can and will be sold to pay towards the restitution. All of his possessions can be sold as well. A lein is placed on his credit report. He will never be allowed to receive an inheritance. He also CANNOT receive any lottery winnings. Everything will automatically go to Mr. LaHaie. Mr. Hahn's vehicle insurance will pay out 2 death benefits and 2 funeral benefits to Mr. LaHaie. Mr. LaHaie's OWN vehicle insurance will pay out the the difference on the funeral costs, that Mr. Hahn's policy didn't cover, if any. If Mr. Hahn's policy doesn't have a death benefit, Mr. LaHaie's will pay out the two death benefits. Hope this info helped.😄
