The weird teacher might be Satan. She's punishing the other teachers for not being true to their faith. She performs the sacrifices that they have neglected to do and doesn't harm Mulder and Scully because she didn't go there for them.

This was my take on it as well. I think she influenced the girl's memories as a form of punishment to the stepfather, and she ultimately killed all of them for half-assing their Satan-worshipping. I don't actually know if she's supposed to be Satan though. I kinda assumed she was one of his underlings. Like a mafia enforcer -- but for the devil, lol.

The step-dad actually does tell Mulder near the end of the episode that there wasn't abuse, that Shannon did view the rituals but was not assaulted, IIRC.

Suzanne Morse, yeah, but can we believe him? Candice did mention that. Mulder asks early on if the students complained about headaches, which can be a sign of repressed memories or just psychosomatic symptoms of abuse.

@@Muirmaiden The girl remembering that crazy story of satanic abuse and her father telling that she has exaggerated it is a nod to "Michelle Remembers" ... an 80s book that started what is called as satanic panic in 80s and 90s. Bascially, a young woman under therepay remembered gory satanic child abuse done to her in 50s. She and her therepist wrote a book on it. They also married after divorcing their respective spouses. That book started an epidemic of satanic ritual abuse memories from lots of people causing everyone to start seeing satanists everywhere. Daycare workers were imprisoned wrongly due to this. Some fought court cases for very long time which destroyed them and their families. In the end, Michelle's father comes out and tells the world that entire account was fabricated. Among the other things that society was really scared of was influence of Rock/Metal Music as satanic influence. The entire girl in satanic sexual abuse part was a fan-service to viewers in 90s.

It's a German title. Unusual for an American series. If Ye wanna know, how to speak, just enter the title in Google translator, just after setting the first language to German. Then you can play the title as audio by clicking on the speaker icon. Setting up the second language to English, translator reveals that this German languaged title says in English: the hand that hurts, and is a reference to a German sentence in the opening scene, when those 4 Satanists summon the Dominus Inferus, the Lord of Hell up from the abyss.
