Band BIO:
X Japan is a Japanese rock band from Chiba, formed in 1982 by drummer Yoshiki and lead vocalist Toshi. Starting as a predominantly power/speed metal band with heavy symphonic elements, they later gravitated towards a progressive sound with an emphasis on ballads. Besides being one of the first Japanese acts to achieve mainstream success while on an independent label, the group is widely credited as one of the pioneers of visual kei, a movement among Japanese musicians comparable to Western glam.
FUN FACTS about band:
-The Band originally went by the name X
- Yoshiki went to the world premier of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' with actress Virgina Madsen
- X Japan made a video game for the Sega Saturn called 'X Japan: Visual Shock 001'.
-X Japan had their own line of Condoms.
- Hide was really chubby as a child and in primary school the other kids always teased him.
-Toshi and Yoshiki have been friends since kindergarden
-On tours, hide and Yoshiki always shared a room together.

It's a beautiful song... and having 55k fans singing it back hits hard, especially knowing that this was their final show ever (they reunited after a some years, but nobody knew that at the time). T here are many connections / references between Babymetal and X-Japan, and this song inspired "No Rain No Rainbow". The Metal gods smiled on Japan, because a few days before X-Japan's final concert, Su metal was born.

This song gets to me every time. Toshi (singer) already announced that he was quitting the band at this point and he didn't want to do this concert because he thought the fans hated him and wanted to attack him for breaking up the band. Hide (guitar) talked him into doing it. There is an excellent documentary called "We are X" that goes through the history of X Japan.

X-Japan has some great but hauntingly sad ballads. One reason for this is that the composer/pianist/drummer Yoshiki had his father pass away at an early age due to suicide. The song Tears is the song that most directly deals with this. Yoshiki speaks in English with a direct message to his father. As someone who's lost a dad, that part hits right in the feels. Endless Rain might be X's most famous song in Japan. And during this performance, the band thought this was their last concert. The fans thought so too, which is why the entire Tokyo Dome was pouring out emotion.

5:07 because this song inspired No Rain No Rainbow. You can even hear same elements if you listen to them back to back. X Japan influenced Babymetal in many ways: visually, musically, performance wise (We are Babymetal is the same as We Are X). The main difference though, there is no room for audience to sing along on Babymetal's NRNR. We have other songs for that :)

You guys must understand the background of this music, the leader of the band, as the pianist and drummer, wrote this to remember his dad, and he went through so many depression and hard times. So this music really shows his emotion. The song is heard as a sad song but the audience really embrace it as they sing along for a long time even after the band moves out of the stage. Really good song. I really like X Japan, so sad that the lead guitarist and bassist both died in a tragic story. 😥

Love X-Japan and Hide's side projects.😭 Also, I know maybe it's not fully your style but can you react some of the old Buck-Tick songs? Buck-Tick and X-Japan was friends, they started together, they became Japanese Rock Legends together, they together created whole new genre which most popular in Japan now (visual key). Buck-Tick's vocalist Sakurai Atsushi was one of the inspirations for Kyo from Dir en grey (and many-many others). Buck-Tick's sound was more heavy in their old days then now, but I'd recommend you to watch them. The only reason they are not as famous abroad as X-Japan - they have never tried to become global and never performed outside of Japan.

It led such a beautiful songs, but the recording was so hard for him.Toshi had been denied and treated like an instrument by Yoshiki. Most of the songs from this show are pretty much the go to versions for people. Since reforming with Sugizo on guitar there have been some really nice intros for songs done with Yoshiki on Piano and Sugizo on violin which really ramps up the emotion even on the less emotional songs. There is a nice acoustic version of Endless Rain from about 10 years ago where Sugizo switches to violin for a section in the middle of the song. Of the newer songs I really find Jade emotional with mostly English lyrics you can really hear the loss being expressed. Other influential bands from early visual kei worth checking out are Buck-Tick and Sugizo’s main band Luna Sea.

"Endless rain, fall on my heart, kokoro no kizuni (en: in this wounded soul) Let me forget, all of the hate, all of the sadness.." This song is very emotional, and this is as the concert title says, the last live before X-Japan disbanded then follow the tragedy, their lead guitarist, Hide died, Taiji their bassist also died in 2011 at 45. For year end event, Yoshiki played this song together with Bryan May and Roger Taylor from Queen, and also our girls Su-Metal and Moa-Metal, And of course I cried. Thank you for this, keep the good work

yes Bro's, I am pleased that you could experience the highest possible concert level. All Japanese rock / metal bands strive for exactly this level. I even knew them in the 90's, but didn't really know how big they were, it was incredibly difficult and expensive to get hold of Japanese records in Europe at that time. Video material completely hopeless! great honest reaction, I was no different

One of the sadist/happiest photos I have ever seen was one taken in London with Su, Moa, Yui and Yoshiki prior to Babymetal's concert at Wembley. Yoshiki met with them to congratulate them and wish them success. XJapan was suppose to be the first Japanese band to play there. They fell apart! Yoshiki was the pianist, drummer and primary song writer, and the neck brace symbol for Metal Music was from his need to wear one when performing.

I didn't know too much about X JAPAN, I knew them only because of the references BABYMETAL uses. Then I saw this show, THE LAST LIVE and damn! I fell in love with them, Then I watched the documentary WE ARE X! oh boy, that one hits really hard! Also, you should check KURENAI again but a newer version, KURENAI from the last live or any show post 1990. The one you did was almost like a demo version so that version doesn't make justice to the real song. R.I.P. Hide & Taiji.
