First reaction to X Japan " I.V." a few weeks back we did a reaction to X Japan Weekend and Gina Cole through down a request for this, more japanese metal so let's dive in with Yoshiki and the crew for I.V from X Japan!
X Japan is a Japanese rock band from Chiba, formed in 1982 by drummer Yoshiki and lead vocalist Toshi. Starting as a predominantly power/speed metal band with heavy symphonic elements, they later gravitated towards a progressive sound with an emphasis on ballads.

Oh I am in the X Japan rabbit hole, honey - ever since Weekend, Weekend, Weekennnnndddddd.... The lone guitar is an homage to Hide, their guitarist who passed as a result of a "suspected" suicide...there is a lot of "something went wrong" speculation and that he did not intend to do harm to himself. Yoshiki is an amazing classical musician and quite the entrepreneur - he has scored music for Disney (there is a documentary available on Disney+ called "Yoshiki: My Music Story"), has his own wine, perfume, clothing line (Yoshikimono)....you can even get a credit card with his beautiful hyper-androgynist face on it! I am still learning about this band and especially enjoying live footage from the super glam look days. My capping statement is this: The documentary WE ARE X is a MUST WATCH...it is captivating!!!

X Japan is definitely "the biggest band you've never heard of." I think you'll like Kurenai if you haven't reacted to that song yet. Great reaction!

Yeah, X Japan is definitely a band that'll take you down the rabbit hole. I'm not hardly an expert, but from what I do know yes, the guitar player hide (he preferred it to remain in lower case) died some years before this song was composed after hanging himself (there's debate over whether it was accidental or intentional). The video screens show old footage of hide, while the guitar left on the stage symbolizes his remaining presence in the band and their music. The song was used over the closing credits of Saw IV, which is where I personally first heard the band. "I.V." also denoted the surviving band's reunion after nearly 10 years' hiatus. If you ever have some freshly-peeled onions lying around and want a video that goes with them, check out some of the footage from their farewell concert in Tokyo, "Last Live" (particularly the clip for "Endless Rain").

It was for Saw IV. Technically I think only Yoshiki and Toshi are original members. Yoshiki and Toshi have been friends since they were four years old. They went through about 3-4 bassists and 7-8 guitarists before getting the iconic lineup of Yoshiki, Toshi, Hide, Taiji and Pata for the first recordings. There is a video on KZbin that shows that part of the history. The guitar is Hide’s to show even in death he is an eternal member of the band.

The guitar they show and the guitarist on the screens are dedicated to hide (Hideto Matsumoto) who died by accidentally falling asleep on a doorknob, doing some kind of neck-stretch while intoxicated, he died few months after X Japan disbanded in 1997, Yoshiki mainly did all of X Japans songs from lyrics to composing, but hide had done few songs for X Japan such as Sadistic Desire which is one of my favourites, and many others. hide's funeral was attended by 50 000+ people and flowers honoring his memory was stacked on 2km long lane, some fans even did copycat suicides after they heard the news. Hide has been compared to Kurt Cobain as a musician, he had extreme talent and vision about art and music, sadly we can only enjoy his musical achievements until 1998.

I actually get to feel X Japan for the fist time listening to Saw 4 credits, years ago. It's still my favorite band to this day.

From Japan. The standing guitar is HIDE's guitar who passed away. Japanese believe spirit. Guitar means "Hide is always with us". Even in recent concert, they say "on guitar Hide!!" pointing sky(Heaven)

X JAPAN invented Visual Kei as a way to make hard rock appeal to women and the masses. There are many other musical methodologies invented by X JAPAN. It is an analog method called free marketing, which was born in the 80's, long before the internet age. This method also created a large number of followers. In other words, it was a reckless marketing method at the time, distributing CDs and videotapes for free at great expense. Behind this insane methodology was the genius of YOSHIKI. Drummer YOSHIKI was hard to get along with because of his genius, but HIDE was a charming and fun person who cared about people, which led to a lot of interaction. the insane marketing of X JAPAN is still going on, and many songs are being played online for free, with no album released for 20 years! The insane marketing of X Japan is still going on. In the meantime, they have created tie-up businesses with many movies and other projects.
