The part that always amazes me is how Hollywood will buy a property to adapt, then entirely ignore the stories and characters that made the property worth optioning in the first place. Then they're surprised when no one cares about it. A perfect example is the Halo show vs the Fallout show.

Thing about this is Comic Book characters from DC & MARVEL that existed for so long. There's countless of retcons and how a character is written in 1 era won't be the same in another era, due to countless of writers writing them differently. Example: - If you read Batman in the Silver Age, he's a goofy Character who would do the most wackiest things, like fighting a Monster who turned him into Paper, or that time Robin had to baby sit Batman as a Baby. - If you read Batman in the 90s/2000s, he's more to being a Detective trying to find criminals and running into Corruption. - if you read Batman nowadays, you can get a range from Family Adventure, or absolute Mayhem where he's Fighting everyone on sight. I'll also add: what makes making a Story/adaptation of a Character to big screen great, is the fact that because the story hasn't been rehashed, you can read something New if you want more. Or something great can come out of whatever they "adapted" and can potentially supercede the original work! Example: - reading the Original Spider-verse comic from 2014, you can realise that compared to the 2018 version, they gave so much significance to Miles and Gwen, despite the fact that both characters aren't that significant in the original comics. - Had the Movie adapted the Original Story, it'll be more like a Multiversal War with Spider-Man characters, with the biggest characters being Otto Octavius, Peter Parker, Cindy Moon, Miguel O'Hara. In my opinion, what makes adaptations good isn't necessarily because they copied the original series page by page. Rathermore they understood the characters, and their story and used it as a Blueprint to create a new story with the characters we know and love. If it were to be the former, series like: Spectacular Spider-Man, everything DCAU, Teen Titans, etc. would NOT be loved by so many.

I almost completely agree with your point about authenticity. I'm the biggest Superman fan I know, and even I'll tell you the character needs some adaptation. Personally i grew up with Evolution Cyclops so i was used to seeing him learnig how to be a leader, and seeing him being prone to being an ass every now and again mostly while hanging out with nightcrawler, made him feel like someone you'd acrually want to hang out with, And seeing him learn from the pacifist xaviar who only uses violence as a last resort; and the more millitant wolverine whos the typical get the job done by any means nessisary and watching him grow as both a solder, and eventually as a leader was pretty dope, Also i kinda liked instead of just being some wierdo creeping on cyclopsis girl; wolverine is basically the dissaproving but loving stepfather of not just scott but the whole team, wolveriines someone whos been subjected to unnimagginable torture because he was a mutant and people wanted to turn him into a weapon, and he just wants to make shure that if they have to these kids can handle themselves, but aslong as he's arround, he'll make shure they WON'T have to

With the X-men movies, you are absolutely correct. The characters and stories are used to sell what coukd or should be original ideas/concepts/stories which should be presented as original to see if they stand on their own, without the bait and switch. The Phoenix story has been tried twice- each time it was told as an entirely definite story than the one people would like to see on the big screen. Some say it may take more than one moviemtomsomit Justice… really? Like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. If it needs more than one movie, what’s the profit problem?😊

You know what's really funny? Those "illiterate people" don't usually think the X-Men aren't an allegory to current social issues, specifically racism and, to a lesser extent, the hatred against LGBTQ+ people. However, a lot of people disagree on how to read this allegory. If you look at who is presented as correct and the good guy, which usually means who the writer wants you to agree with and who they personally agree with (USUALLY), you'll find out that Magneto's original idea, which was that humans were all evil and it's ok to be prejudiced against them in return, is NEVER condoned by the writers or by the main heroes. In X-Men ´97, Magneto does his best to honour what Xavier wanted: a peaceful solution of mutual coexistence. A lot of people will call the show woke, yet from what we can see when such people post their opinions online, they basically agree with og Magneto. The show is not meant to be a tool of political education or pandering or a medium for spreading a specific ideology, it's artistic and ANALYZES the ideas, poses questions and tries to answer them, makes you THINK about the issues. Something that is sorely missing from a lot of modern entertainment. It's like with Star Trek. Discovery doesn't exactly make you think about an issue when it covers it the way TNG used to when they covered the same topic. But X-Men ´97 DOES make you think, it does present the situation as complex and without a clear simple solution, which distinguishes it from ideological slop. Hell, Magneto's speech in the sky is incredible precisely because it doesn't follow the modern woke ideology. He demands that the humans acknowledge this is a shared world and that mutants have the same right to live in it as they do. Simple as that. He doesn't ask to be seen, he doesn't ask to be loved, he doesn't want a "mutant history month", he demands equal rights and that is it.
@LastBastian
@LastBastian 8 ай бұрын
Think I agree with you. 97 *could* have easily been a ham fisted one sided woke mess. (Like so many shows these days) But they are doing a good job of demonstrating that you can tackle these topics with a bit of nuance and consideration for more than one ideological perspective. Trek TNG did a great job of this back in the day. Heck, The Orville did a pretty great job of it recently too. I hope 97 continues this trend.

After finishing season 2 of invincible I did the unthinkable (for me at least) and finished the entire run of the og comics in less than 3 days. I am in ruins. I see the show much more differently now. But MAN am I excited to see that all animated!

Bascically the same for me as kid. I had old hand me down computers until I was 17 and did have high speed until around that time. I got a job and paid for high speed internet and built my first computer from mostly used parts. Then I started getting any X-Men comic I could get, up to decimation. I read all of invincible through digital comics. Never purchased a physical copy of the series.

She Hulk left a bad taste in my mouth. Was bothered that I wasted time watching it. Invincible & X-Men 97 crush it in every way possible despite the obvious difference in animation (some would argue that much CGI might as well be animation) the writing, stories & plot is just better. They keep you involved and actually care about the characters’ development, with actual stakes & consequences. Invincible did more for the guardian of the globe from episode 1 than marvel has done in the last several live action series.

She-Hulk was written by people that don't even know or like She-Hulk. They just know she's more comedic than Hulk. And that's what they focused on. They didn't try to translate any of her actual stories into live action. Which is why it's so bad!

I love both X-men 97 and Invincible and seen every episode of both and look forward to more. 👍👍👍👍. 97 is a true faithful and updated version of original. Before the show, i never read or seen anything about Invincible and knew none of these characters but this show is making me a fan and getting to know them well so i am now a fan because of this show. I hope they do the same if they ever do Authority like R rated, Superman 2000, Batman 95, Spawn 99, Spider-man 98, and others they could continue from original endings.

I agree with the points in this video 100%, although I will say a show like Young Justice shows that comic accuracy isn’t completely necessary when there’s passion and talent driving the project. Also, like you said, when it’s not claiming to be something else, like with secret invasion

Scott was amazing in the From the Ashes Run in Uncanny X-men. Seeing him take on Mastermind and a tricked group of X-men in the Danger Room was him at his best. Also liked him in the Grant Morrison run. His power is relatively boring but he is proper thinking warrior / workaholic. great character !

I will say that I loved cyclops ever since I got Xmen for the gamegear and he was the only person with a ranged attack, I NEVER met another person who thought cyclops was cool, every time I said he was my favorite I was always told how "stupid" that was so seeing him be a badass now feels so damn good!

I didn't like cyclops because he was always a lame nerd boy scout who barley had personality. (Except for the comics and original show) but now he's a emotional badass that can both lead a team and make hard decisions. I am oh so very sorry and I apologize for my actions.

Yes!! Finally an accurate adaption of Scott/Cyclops!! He took a backseat to Hugh Jackman's " Wolverine" in the Fox universe. So did Storm. X-MEN was about a TEAM....Better together than separate. Scott was the General to Xavier's " Commander and Chief"

Kinda, yeah. I think animation is arguably the best medium for adapting comics - it allows long-term storytelling in a way that live-action can struggle to find the budget or time to manage.
