"Po" is short for "porra", which is something you don't say near family or anyone... it means... male ejaculate lol... same, i had been a fan of the comic for a year or 2 before this storyline and was the first real "adult" themed storyline my 14 year old ass had ever really grasped, up until then it was the fights and artwork...i have ZERO doubt they even touch the level the story had , but i am so here for it and have recently reread it when i saw the titles for te episodes..

It's funny because sega genesis and super nintendo had different x-men games which were never ported to each other's systems. But I think the main inspirations of this episode were the Arcade game and the Super Nintendo game, while also being played on a Genesis looking console named like a nintendo.

The cover on the game looks exactly like the cover on the Genesis version, and it had the infamous Mojo level where you had to reset your console in order to finish it. That was always where I gave up as a kid because it was too meta for me to figure out.

Mojo was always one of my favourite villains in the original show and I love seeing him return in his grotesque glory. He's a character who's aged phenomenally well in our current pop culture climate. A remarkably fitting villain who personifies everything wrong with the entertainment industry. He's essentially Marvel's Harvey Weinstein and an intergalactic executive producer pumping out content. I initially thought he was going to be the main villain for Deadpool 3, but it seems that Cassandra Nova will be the villain for that movie

Charles even as a baby in the womb of his mother tried to kill Cassandra while she was also a baby in their mother's womb and both had a pyschodelic battle. She's perhaps one of the most evil and despicable X-Men villains and I believe this is the first time the character has ever been adapted in media outside of the Grant Morrison X-Men comics

Unclear. the best we can say is maybe yes, maybe no. It could be a sneaky reference to Deadpool 3 or it could just be a funny "Dazzler would rather be doing anything else than hang out with Mojo and wants to focus on her music" sort of thing that doesn't mean anything. Dazzler did show up in X-Men: the Animated Series (the show that X-Men '97 is a continuation of) long before the X-Men movies even started to be a thing.

This was another great episode! I loved seeing the beginning of the "LifeDeath" story for Strom, and I can't wait for part 2 of this mini-arc! I can already tell this emotional character exploration of Storm is going to be one of my favorite mini arcs in the entire X-Men animated series franchise by the time part 2 completes the story. The "Motendo" stuff was also super fun and creative! Revisiting some of the greatest highlights from this iteration of the X-Men in 16-Bit from like an old X-Men arcade game spotlighting their greatest moments was super cool and fun! I also loved having a Jubilee episode because she's one of my personal favorite members of the X-Men! Having it be her birthday was also a really nice way to explore how far she's come since episode 1 of the original series! I'm also really starting to warm up to Roberto. It's been nice to see the world of the X-Men through his eyes as a newcomer to this family. 👀🎆 Overall, X-Men 97 continues to be my favorite thing Marvel has made on Disney Plus! 9/10 episode this week! 🙌🏽🌟✨️

Gil Birmingham and Alison-Sealy Smith have incredible chemistry in this epsiode. Even though he didnt voice him in the original series he felt as he he voiced him in the 90s series. Also Alison-Sealy Smith pulls off dual performance in Storm and her darker self. Also the mention of the scientist in Scotland could that be Moira Mctaggart as her arc with her son Kevin aka Proteus and what she was going through because of her son not being accepted by his dad...I feel she is going to return as well.

Another banger of an episode. Never played the x-men games and I thought that was extremely creative. An astounding visual experience that i loved every minute of it. Storm and Forge. I can feel the damn chemistry through the screen. I didn't mind the complete switch from action to drama. This is even better on a rewatch😊

The design of older Jubilee, complete with spiky helmet, was taken from a story in the Wolverine solo series, The Crunch Cunundrum. In that story Mojo also has an older Jubilee working for him, though she has a lot less freedom in that story, and it's a lot more trippy, no video game stuff, instead going to the end of time to try to save the universe, by allowing it to end. I liked the original story, but I enjoyed this too!

LifeDeath was basically a secondary episode. It's similar to back-up stories in some comics which feature characters and events that aren't currently part of the main plot. I felt it worked pretty well, especially as there were some conectiobs. Revisiting Genosha as it once was and the revelation that slave collars were based on Forge's work. Mojo and the Adversary both being powerful entities that manipulate others to feed themselves.

Truth be told I never was an X-men dude in the 90s ( I grew up on Godzilla, HULK, Iron Man, Power Rangers). I didn't get a proper intro to mutants till the animated series and the fox movies. But now with content like 97 and the stuff Rob Jefferson puts on Comics Explained I'm slowly becoming hooked on the X-men and looking forward to learning more.

Another spectacular episode with more character drive storyline. Great callbacks to The Dark Phoenix saga with The Hellifire Club with Emma Frost conitnuing with the new animation but continuing the original stories. Also love the Bruce Lee and Sister Sister silhouettes in Jubilee's room. I think Jubilee's arc is so nicely balance with the child like innocence and showing maturity. The whole 16 bit with her and Sunspot being transported to thr game world and hearing all classic sound effects is perfection. Then with Storms storyline seeing her at her lowest point and Forge revealing the truth and his feelings for Storm again makes her arc compelling. I had the whole X-Men TAS game for Sega Genesis and played it obsessively in the 90s.

I lived in Brazil for two years and speak Portuguese fluently for what it’s worth ;) actually I was in a program called Spanish immersion where beginning in first grade they not only teach you Spanish, but by third grade everything is taught in Spanish, your teachers only speak Spanish, so English for example is taught by a teacher only speaking spanish and we weren’t allowed to speak English at school basically through 6 grade, then took the highest level college credit like courses 7th through 12th…. All that said, I don’t speak spanish fluently at all and never really did now that I know what it’s like to truly speak a second language fluently in Portuguese

I do think there’s a common thread with both parts of the stories. They both deal with life and what’s living and how do you take that next step in life. Now they both tell that story differently. With the Mojo part obviously being more fun while the Storm part being more serious but the message is similar.

The cancellation thing was part of original Mojo that simply aged in an amusing way, not something new. Seeing Storm crying and vulnerable was pretty amazing to me though, she's always had to be incredibly resilient and not fully feel her feelings because of the imoact on her direct environment. Now she can ride a horse and go wild unlike when she did with Rogue back in season three of the original. I think this is the first time Storm cried on screen outside of The Last Stand.

Im glad it wasnt 1 dedicated episode. I love the ensemble episodes more then the individual character focused ones so I like they kept this short for both Jubilee and Storm. I love what they are doing with Jubilee as well. Amazing episode !!

I'm surprised that the Adversary didn't ring any bells, unless that happened in the uncut Patreon version. I recognized that gangly body almost immediatedy, though first the owl face tricked me thinking it was one of the Eye-Killers. The Adversary reveal made me think that are they planning to do the Fall of the Mutants?!
