Storm was stiffed this whole season.... not one boss fight or mutant fights with ANYBODY the whole season and they didn't even use her in ep 9 or 10 AND she wasn't even shown with the rest of the team at the end.... like damn.... jubilee and Roberto seen way more action than her. Idk what their plans ln with her but they got to show storm more cuz thts just embarrasing.

Hearing you say that Wolverine isn't even one of the top-5 mutants on X-Men 97 is kinda wild to me. He was all over the marketing so i hate when they do that shit but more screen time for Cyclops &Jean is never bad. Same with old school Rouge but that voice actresses age is coming through &it's jarring right now. Maybe I'll get used to it but hearing the breakdown of screen time is just crazy to me; I thought Gambit & Jubilee would both get more love this time around but I guess not

The first hour &twenty was definitely a Nerds of Culture hour &as a person that doesn't have twitter/X; shout out to you Carter for giving that shit up. I haven't seen the finale but I will speak for calm comic fans that when the big climactic fight takes place in the finale wants to see Storm kicking-ass. But after she tries to get through to Bastion, in fact Storm might let him throw the 1st-punch before she strikes back but Storm is in no fuckin way a mammy

Batman exists to prop up the Black Label, he &or his Bat-family are the DC Black Label line. Hell Batman is barely holding up DC but as long as Tom King can stay out of continuity then he's perfectly fine &sometimes can write a classic. I haven't enjoyed Tom King in years but I never thought for one second that Batman was ever gonna get married so I don't have the hate towards him that many Batman supporters do. So as long as it's not in continuity then it could be fire

The mammy archetype was also commonly depicted as ignorant, obedient and submissive. Non-threatening to “beautiful” white women. None of that can be said about Storm. I think it’s worth examining how she MIGHT fall into the magical negro trope. As caretaker, is she disproportionately devoted to the aide of the white characters around her? The “noble savage” or “happy slave.” Does she exist to reassure her white friends? I don’t think she does, but I think it’s healthy to have the discussion and to make sure we continue to hold pop culture accountable. Symbols are powerful.

none of that can be said about her character overall. But she definetely was the black woman that every white girl came to for advice, for motherly support and had a damn bleeding heart over family and obsessed over charles the white man who saved her from egypt. it's a little too on the nose for her. if she started cleaning up dinner and helped changed nathan's diaper the type cast would be complete.

That's the funny thing about ensemble casts, especially over a 2 hour movie, a 10 episode half-hour season of a show, or a 12 issue run of a comic: the writer(s) have to make a choice about who the story drivers are and they're not going to be all 12 of the characters being featured. Characters are basically divided up in 3 tiers (or more) to serve certain purposes so the finished product doesn't come across too schizophrenic. Tier 1 characters are going to drive the main plots, usually linked to the main villain(s) of the arcs. Scott and Madelyne begat Cable and not only did Sinister coveteth him, he orchestrated his creation by replacing Jean so he could command how and when he could retrieve his prized possession. Magneto's trying the baby face turn in the middle of secret forces' conspiracy to do the absolute worst to mutants, and this calls Xavier back to his Milky Way Ghetto and the run down housing project that is Earth. All the while, Magneto's feelings for Rogue draw her into dilemmas about her current complicated relationship and the way she should protect mutantkind. That's a lot of meat for 10 episodes, so every body else has to be tier 2 or 3 at best. Tier 2 are going to get smaller arcs woven between everything in the main bucket. That's what Storm dealing with powerlessness, the Adversary, and the reclaiming of her power was. Similarly, what Roberto's journey as the window for the audience to see entry into the X-Men's world, dealing with hiding then accepting you're the thing the public hates, letting your loved one(s) in to see your truth, and suffering the backlash of being accepted but not in any way that truly counts, and not when the chips are stacked against she who claimed to accept him. Tier 3 characters are going to be those who support or whose interactions are based on what is going down with the higher tiers. That is: Wolverine will be reacting to not getting Jean; Forge will be reacting to his hand in Storm's dilemma; Morph will be pining for Logan; Gambit will be worried about losing Rogue to Magneto; Jubilee will be Sunspot's guide; Beast will be tech support; Nightcrawler will be the team's heart, and Bishop will be Cable's courier. Their lot in life is to get a big moment or 3 but not really carry the deeper narrative. That is, Jubilee gets to Motendo, push Sunspot to acceptance and blast Bastion's face; Wolverine gets to be unintentionally funny, slice Prime Sentinels mid-air, do right by Jean and Scott, and stab Magneto... however well that turns out for him; Gambit gets to go out like a MFing uppercase G; Morph gets to cameo a bunch of other heroes/villains, be catty and sarcastic, profess feelings, and get one up on Sinister, etc. Basically if room was made for Tier 3 to get more, someone else in Tier 1 or 2 was going to lose their spot and a different segment of fans would be holding the salt shaker. It's just what it is,... but, while it is understandable from that point of view, it does come with unintentional truisms about who ended up being out of the Tier 1 treatment. To circumvent that, they would have to make conscious choices about moving some of these: Scott, Jean, Mags, Xavier, Rogue and Cable, into the background a bit so others can be get that focus; and that in itself may be driven by how many iconic storylines even exist about Jubilee, Forge, Bishop, Wolverine, Gambit, Morph, etc. We know there are for many of them (especially Wolverine, Gambit as a Horseman, Bishop with witnessing AoA, etc.) but we should also temper expectations that others' stories have the built in wide effects for the X-Men as a whole and may be hard to ignore just to promote the designated lower tier characters.

Looking at it I do hate everything about that Michelangelo cover (the one w/ the Rolex too) &him being some famous pop-star; I really don't like how he looks either. But it's not going to make me jump off the series not off one issue &Michelangelo isn't my favorite turtle. He's great when the gang is all together so who cares if his solo adventurers are subpar. And if all this shit leads him to becoming Ronin then I'm here for it;whatever it takes Mikey. Every other turtle sets up easier when it comes to solo adventuring, so my expectations for a Michelangelo issue is lower &the series will truly start whenever the turtles all team backup

She didn't have the spotlight this episode but she had a few important moments. She and Cyclops showed their leadership when they told the team instead of fighting Bastian they'll embrace him. Another is when she and Jean formed an Omega Level circuit (I think Jean may be an Omega Level telekinetic in this iteration). The theme of the xmen is teamwork and Omega Level circuits are rare. Storm got 2 this season. That's pretty awesome really

Her most important storyline got HALF an episode, and we didn't see much of her afterwards until the finale where she was largely reduced to a cheerleader for Jean and empathised with a genocidal maniac who choked her without doing anything to remove him. Also, being an omega-level mutant meant you can stop a damned astroid, but of course this was actually The Magneto Show. Just stop.

To be honest it’s the new fans who feel that Storm is placed in a “Mammy" setting while we who read the comics before there was ever a toon know Storm to be a "Motherly" type character. I agree with you completely! I am a huge fan of X-Treme X-Men🥰! I never even thought of Storm as a Mammy while yes she is the only Black and Black female on the team who has wisdom, compassion (which new fans don’t know that Storm is the most compassionate of all the X-Men if not of all mutants) and it is her natural instinct to be a nurturer and growing up watching my Great Grandma as a caretaker of whites I can see how it can be misunderstood. Now I will say that this is only "Black Woman Energy" and I’m 40+ years old and every and only Black women, parent and teacher, possessed that energy. These days no woman possesses that type of energy because a system has been placed where a Black woman and father disciplining their child is called abuse. Even in twitter a white fan made that claim saying it happened twice this year in the comic with Nimrod and and the toon with Bastion and I swear he through me with it. But I know Storm and her personality that has been since I’ve been a fan but that makes a difference between "actual" fans a "bandwagon" fans who don’t know her history. We know when to be disappointed, we know when they’re trying to pull one or even disrespect Storm (like with that Joke of a Mohawk but what can we do) and we know what to speak on without exposing our ignorance on social media.

Pick a lane. she may not be a total mammy in the comics, but the depiction she played in '97 she had mammy vibes. it was really unsettling watching her act this way. and that family schtick was way too much.
