These "mutants" are not another species if they can still reproduce with humans and produce viable offspring that will also be able to reproduce.

Yeah, I have never really understood the plot point of mutants being treated like they are somehow a different species. Its like insisting anyone who is born double jointed isn't a human being because they get a cool nifty thing most people don't.
@jakec9522

I think, biologically speaking, that would make mutants a sub-species. There is evidence that humans and Neanderthals could produce viable children. Some people even still have traces of them in their DNA. So, for mutants, that means they're still human in the same way that humans are primates. But their starting to genetically drift away from their ancestors.

Time Travel happens because Bastion took cable's arm, and the bodyslide tech is stuck in that got infused in his body. So i bet you when bastion wakes up trying to self heal and it responds to everything that happened and magneto pulling asteroid m back up into orbit, the bodyslide went haywire and sent everyone everywhere. Part of Bastion is made from Nimrod so that bit of him was calling to its timeline that no longer exists, all this goes back to the episode "One Man's Worth."

You don't just get randomly transported to the future where Apocalypse's origin is, or Wolverine properly ending up in bygone days of neanderthals which we did not see, or Jean and Scott ending up in the future. You're right. In the pilot episode she destroys the VCR when she interacted with it (making her dad angry) and when she runs away to the mall she short circuits an arcade machine. Which gives me my favorite line of the episode. Arcade Attendant: Hey, do you know how much that cost? Jubilee: Yeah... A quarter. Flips her glasses, takes her drink and casually walks away. The most boss moment in that episode.

@@NinjaGateStudios Yeah jubilee powers have always been somewhat vague/confusing, from first glance it seems like they’re some form of pyrotechnics/explosives since they look like fireworks but as you guys mentioned she has destroyed machinery so them being electrical based would make sense (and especially gives reason to why she often wears a raincoat/kitchen gloves aka rubber insulation) But best answer to why she couldn’t do to much damage in these fights is probably the sentinels upgraded themselves (they did the same for magneto) or bastion is just too high level machinery?

I'd have liked the series to have had more nuance. For example the UN preparing a way to destroy Genosha if it becomes a threat and having Bastion use this plan without permission, rather than the UN just destroying Genosha because they hate mutants. That way Xavier doesn't look like an idiot for trying to appeal to them. Also I'd like Magneto to try and save some of the mutants after damaging the Magnetosphere, instead of leaving them all to die. Especially if the mutants are being attacked by people who lost loved ones due to Magneto's EMP. That way the theme can be how humans and mutants suffer because of the actions of others in their group.

Maybe not Season 2 but Season 3 Don’t forget in the very first teaser trailer, you see the hellfire flyer Teasing what’s coming Maybe that’s why they fired Beau Maybe they told him to rush it And they got woke activists to fully work on Season 3 so they can incorporate all of these things to the big screen or tv.

3:32 - ANNND that's also EXACTLY why the billions of TONS of soil and sheet rock and magma WOULD protect the earth's core from ANY EMP pulse (and why Magneto - unless he was suicidal - would NEVER be stupid enough to pulse his powers THROUGH the earth. Around/across and over = Fine. The earth is still relatively safe and would survive. Through doesn't make any sense, because (and I say this with all possible irony) Grounding. Electro. Not just Magnetic. It literally WOULD NOT work the way the show thinks it does. What Jean did to Sinister: Yes. Jesus... BUT = Justified. Entirely. Think about it - not only did he CLONE her without her consent, he let that clone be with Scott. Who is the love of her life. Fucked him; fucked with his head - made it so Scott couldn't figure out which ONE of them he loves... and Jean experienced ALL of that. The sex. The Pregnancy. The birth... she just never actually physically went through it. Frankly something like that should have driven her insane... so is it vicious. Yes. Is it absolutely cold-blooded ruthless. Again, yes. Would I do the same... Hell. Yes. It depends on the size of the asteroid and how much burns up on re-entry. If it's big enough = sure. Most of us would be absolutely screwed. However if there were preperations like with Fallout's Vault system in place before that happened, we'd survive. Minutely. There are enough paranoid preppers who have similar sorts of shelters built that frankly some remnant of humanity would survive such an event. At least for maybe a generation or two. Depending on the state of the planet afterwards.

Not sure dropping Asteroid M would end all life on Earth. To put things in perspective the asteroid that nuked the dinosaurs into extinction was 10-15 KM large, or a little less than 10 miles wide. By contrast Asteroid M is only a few square miles, large enough for an installation but nowhere near as large as an extinction level event asteroid. And that’s ignoring that it’s a hotly debated topic whether the asteroid even caused the dinosaurs’ extinction or whether it just finished them off after a period of decline due to other environmental factors. Then you get the debate about whether dinosaurs can in fact be called extinct when birds exist. The point is we’re talking an event that would give us a bad time, possibly wipe an unlucky country off the map depending on where it landed, but is probably survivable. Then again this is coming from someone who’s seen a few Gundam series, and Gundam loves dropping colonies. Also realistically you wouldn’t build a base close enough to earth that it would fall out of the sky if it lost power, you’d build it far enough up that it would assume a stable orbit with relatively little or no power needed to maintain it, because no one actually wants to waste power if they don’t have to. But then where would the drama come from?

Jumbled thoughts: As a historian, I question sometimes about the whole "knowing your history" thing. At their worst, humans act on their own individual and collective self-interest and damn the torpedoes, including history. People who knew about the Jewish Holocaust stood by while Rwanda happened. Beau Demayo said the Jubilee/Sunspot fall and conversation took place within the Earth's atmosphere. I understand your annoyance with superhero comicbook/superhero logic. It's like in the 20th century, when supervillains would take over the United Nations, and, according to them, that meant controlling the world!! LOL!!!! Clearly *no one* who wrote superheroes back then knew what the U.N. was and did :) And if we're going to be picky: if the '90s Marvel animated universe is all canon/interrelated, how did Captain America escape that cosmic (?) field where he was trapped fighting the Red Skull forever, a la Spider-Man: TAS "Six Forgotten Warriors?" (Remember: at the end of Spider-Man: TAS "Secret Wars" arc, the Beyonder put all of the Secret Warriors back to their original spaces.) Maybe Tony Stark found a way to do it while Spider-Man was rescuing Mary Jane off-screen :) I'd like to tell you I care about all these goofs, but I really don't! Such great entertainment, starring my favorite universe!!! It'll take a while for Marvel to get to "Spider-Man '98" since it is determined to do Spider-Man animated fare for little kids. (Shades of when Marvel head Joe Quesada said that Marvel had to do "One More Day" because Spider-Man was not going to grow old like the reader?) THANKS for this!!!

To be fair, back in the 90’s the nuclear capable governments fired nukes at the original Asteroid M, but as a retaliatory strike because Fabian Cortez fired missiles at Earth; and the original Asteroid M crashed into the Earth back in the 90’s which also didn’t cause an extinction level event. Jubilee breathing AND TALKING in space is dumb, to an almost Last Jedi/Princess Leia degree. It’s not just heroes not acting. You’re telling me Dr. Doom couldn’t have fixed the problem with Earth’s magnetic field. I also stupidly kept waiting for Ultron to hack into Bastion and take him over. I have one disagreement with what was said, the pacing of the series was waaay too fast. Like the inferno storyline was done in like half an episode or something. Pacing is waaay too fast and thus so many things happen without explanation, biggest one is why did the master of magnetism didn't use his powers directly against metal robots. Man was able to lift a asteroid, large enough to cause a ELE upon crashing, into space without breaking a sweat. The entire series felt like there maybe like a directors cut out there, because it felt like so much was cut out to make each episode fit into half hour.

The pacing of this show was too fast. So much happened, we move from villian to villian, introducing and killing major characters. Sometimes all in the span of a single episode. There were several excellent stories here, but they moved so fast that I couldn't really appreciate them. Jean kisses Logan. Then Scott has a secret conversation with Madelyne Then there's Cabel Now Madelyne's dead Meanwhile I'm still trying to figure out what the impact of Jean kissing Logan is, and how that's going to affect them moving forward, but we can't explore that because Magnus just died. But psych, he's not dead, even though the people that were with him are dead? Just, too much, too fast. I love the refrences. I love seeing this stuff on screen. But the show needed to slow down.

People forget that this is not Steve with his journey complete. Even in the MCU, it needed to get to a point for him to distrust the government, and that was after discovering Hydra was conroling the system. For all we know, this Cap never had this incident happen. To him, it's a bunch of flawed people trying to manage a very complicated world, and he is trying his best to help with complicated politics carefully, because he probably only knows them at surface level and doesn't want to risk his country. I really respected Steve in that episode with Rogue (even if I'm a bit disappointed because he didn't go with her) because he could have just jumped her and tried to arrest her for attacking multiple military facilities. But no, he stopped and talked, and also tried to reason with her. People just want old Cap back, but we are getting there.

I think the show did an okay job this season, though it certainly was not without flaws. The thing I felt was its most consistent problem was the pacing, likely evident because of trying to fit what could've been thirteen or fourteen episodes worth of story into a ten-episode season, but my biggest complaint (which looks like it'll be ramped up exponentially for season 2) is its use of "relative anachronism," which I've mostly opined about previously expecting just a one-off usage but given the contents of this season finale needs further explanation. Other people supposedly have problems with how certain characters were portrayed throughout this season vs the original series and most common comic depictions, but that's beyond the scope of this comment. X-Men '97 was advertised with the conceit of "what if the original series continued through 1997." I fully understand that it was produced starting from 2023 and therefore would have access to the knowledge and history of the extra 25+ years beyond the end of the original series run, but that being said if you call a project a sequel series to the original animated run _and_ even though it was made with 2020s technology expect it to honor the spirit of as if it were released in 1997 then it would not have access to storylines that didn't happen yet to use as source to adapt regardless of whether the source was comics, movies, games, or even audio plays or KZbin videos. All they have to do to avoid such scrutiny is not advertise it as a sequel series, not advertise it as "97." I originally complained in previous comments that the Genosha events being adapted in episode 5, later reinforced by the presence of diamond-form Emma Frost in episode 7 as a survivor, were one such anachronism under this definition since apparently the only thing this could possibly have adapted was the very specific equivalent event from the early 2000s, years after the original animated series ended and not yet existing in 1997. It could be easily brushed off by "rule of cool," the fact that in the context of the season it was a "natural" occurrence given the progression of events and did what it was supposed to do to further progress the season's overarching plot, but most importantly _being a one-time thing._ But when you have the sequel hook, the teaser, of the hand of Apocalypse picking up the burnt card of Gambit, making it all but obvious that what peeps have been saying is almost certainly gonna happen about adapting "Gambit as the Horseman of Death," part of a storyline that's _years even later_ than the Genosha event in the comics, then anachronism isn't just a one-off occurrence for flavor, it's a pattern. Bastion absorbed Cable's cyber arm during their tussle and upgraded himself. That arm almost certainly also contained Cable's time-travel tech in it, and just on that exchange alone that ended up opening the path to being a pretty groovy way to ultimately executing the Totally Not Siege Perilous scenario that they did in a way like how the original series could have done it. _That_ is the kind of original series honoring they should've been doing more of during the season, preferably with more time/episodes. Instead, they're gonna MCU it like I feared and fast-forward past years of stories...actually, worse, since they've already called their hands as being relatively anachronistic this time. Not just fast-forwarding past years of stories, fast-forwarding past when the series would have chronologically aired and adapting more and more material that didn't exist yet. For a show that calls itself "X-Men '97," I absolutely did _not_ want the show to adapt material from years later until it's caught up (i.e. the '97-'98 season runs then can use material from 1997, the '98-'99 season can use from 1998, etc), and even then they should still learn the lessons from the original series' meh attempts to adapt their own period contemporary storylines like Phalanx Covenant (which was clearly a rush job) and just not rush them.

So…is Wolverine dead? Because in the comic, Jean had to telekinetically hold his body together. I know the answer, but this is another thing that didn’t transfer entirely right from the comics. Plus it’s a shame we won’t get to see Logan save Jean from Bad Re-entry Redux as we do in Wolverine #75. They seem to be focusing on Jubilee x Roberto as her main arc, but it would be nice if they explore her bond with Wolvie if he has to deal with bone claws and they don’t just give him straight to Apocalypse

Ngl, as a 32 y.o. man who is a pot bellied, hairy as fuck, and does bus driving for a living. Diner goodbye scene made me bawl. My mom died of kidney failure when I was 14, dad didn't let me see her, hoping she'd be fine, hence why would I try to see her - it'll work out. Dad died of brain hemorrhage just 6 years later. I didn't go to see him either, knowing he's comatose bound to the bed. Blood clot was too deep to operate, but he's held for three weeks. And I didn't go. I was too afraid. I never got to say goodbye. Because as dad did with mom, I hoped I won't have to. That he' ll be fine. I regret not taking the chance and shows like that are a painful, but necessary reminder - don't turn down what little time you can have with those who're close to you. It might be your last.

Alright Imma get eaten alive for admitting this, but I actually haven't really watched the show all that much aside from your reviews and some bits and pieces that may parents watched (they are both X-Men fans and fans of the OG 90's show) and I really didn't watch any episodes until the finale and boy am I ashamed that I didn't. I mean I was never an X-Men fan, it just didn't catch my eye as much as a kid like the Spider-Man 90's show, besides more so back then and even now the only superhero that I had eyes for was Iron Man. However I will say that I was impressed with the show and the finale actually got me interested in what's to come next, I actually do like a lot of the characters and how the show does deal with more touchy subjects, I mean one of my favorite aspects is how it really does make you think about them long after. One issue I did have though was how they portrayed Cap, I mean I get it, it's not his show and all, but they could have left him out of the whole adventure aside from the cameos without making him seem useless and weak. Like you said in your previous review Cap sticks to his morals no matter what and he is sympathetic to the Mutants cause, him deciding to not help Rouge just because he's Captain America was pretty dumb in my opinion. I think it was worse in this episode where he just looked sad and barely objected to the Magneto protocol, but overall I did like the finale, Bastion was a pretty cool villain as a ruthless and cruel hate filled cyborg dude and I did like the moments between Professor X and Magneto quite a bit. Overall even though I'm not much of an X-Men fan YET, I am pumped for what's to come next.

I personally think the reason the show might have not gotten so many views is because everyone thought disney would make it woke nonsense, when in reality it is anything but. There are some woke parts, mainly involving morph, but they're not thrown in your face and done in a preachy manner which makes them tolerable. Overall I gotta give this show a 9/10, something I NEVER imagined i'd say about a Disney product after so many failures.

While I will agree there are many positive things about this remake/continuation I feel important to point out areas of concern. 1: The bizarre love triangle of Rogue/Gambit/Magneto which really altered existing cannon in an unsettling way (considering Rogue was a teenager when Mystique adopted her and introduced her to Magneto). 2: The lack of creative writing when it came to cameos and world ending scenario (ie give a reason why Dr. Strange/ Black Panther/Fantastic Four/Avengers don't help apart from "the plot says so"). 3: The apparent hand waving forgetfulness of both Magneto's and Bastion's actions. While I can appreciate idealism and forgiveness of Xavier/Cyclops to a point.....its really hard to wipe away the fact both antagonists enacted mass genocide and are never held accountable. Even for a kids show we shouldn't dumb things down too much. It would be similar to if Hiter/Stalin were alive today and rather than hold them accountable for their actions...we just break out the smores and sing kumbaya. There is much of this show that is an improvement from other Disney works but I can't say its perfect. I welcome civil discussion.

I understand this is an X-Men show and X-Men will be the primary focus, but when writing powerful beings into a story (ie Dr. Strange/Avengers/FF) you still need to include a reason why they are doing nothing or doing little when the stakes are world wide. The same thing happened during the original show as well. Those cameos as well as the Phoenix/Jean Grey deus ex machina risks sucking out the tension for future stories if not handled well.

Completely justified at all times all the way through the run of the show. Following genosha and having prime sentinels murdering multitudes. The stopping a genocide justifies. If people stopped trying to genocide. If anyone else did anything to stop the multiple mass murderers. That EMP is explicitly a heroic action. Undoing it resumes mass murder. The president did nothing to stop the mass murderers from resuming if he restored the power. Magneto didn't even seek revenge. He just stopped the murderers. Therefore the big reveal of that not being Mary Jane and instead just a clone hasn't happened yet. Peter has yet to go off and find the real Mary Jane. From the cameos of characters created post 2000s to story elements from that same time frame, the show picks and chooses what it wants to adapt and lore it wants to keep regardless of how many comic elements are skipped that are required for it to happen. Same with the Peter and MJ situation, the show wanted a meaningless cameo.
