The lifts in cyclopes boots are wild - you see just how much they had in there, when he has his leg on the wall at 1:18. I only recently learned that James Marsden is just under 5'10, and that there where producers involved who were against casting a smaller guy for Cyclops (who is 6'2 in the comics) and a really tall guy to play Wolverine (who is 5'3 in the comics). The problem was that James Marsden and Hugh Jackman were favorites amongst the crew and studio, and were basically perfect in their screen tests as the characters..... they basically looked just like their comic counter parts in every way except their massive height differences. So the studio fought for them. Even back when this was filmed, there were people upset that they reversed the heights on the two leads.... so the answer was to shoot cyclops in most scenes from the knees up (easy enough given his eyes are the focus), and to give him the worlds thickest boots, lol. Something James has since spoken about being a detrimental thing for his ability to act in any action scenes. Apparently he wore inserts and special boots in all three of the original films that gave him a extra 4 inches (bringing him closer to the 6'4 Hugh Jackman) - and for the later films, they actually dug holes for Jackman to stand in, so his cast-mates would appear taller!
