No matter what your thoughts on this movie are, I think we can all agree that Kelsey Grammer as Beast is as good a casting as Patrick Stewart as Professor X or Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, I wish he had gone to play the character more, he’s so pitch perfect

Without a doubt. Grammar is literally the only actor I could envision as Hank McCoy and I thought so well before this movie came out. I honestly was never a huge fan of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine though. I know he certainly gave it his all but he always felt far too subdued to me. I'd replace him with Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool as far as perfect mutant casting decisions. Hell, even the actual comics themselves were pointing that one out long before that first pitch trailer was even shot.

Yeah, he was pretty spot on. From his casting, to his make-up, to his sophistication, to his animal like fighting, even him reading upside down at 4:14 just in the animated series. It basically was as perfect a realization of a cinematic x-men could be. Kelsey Grammer actually said in interviews that he loved playing Beast and would love to reprise his role, but for whatever reason the studio decided against it.

I really can't fault Rogue for wanting the cure. She literally cannot touch anyone without killing them, not even a handshake or a hug. Mutant or not. She might have been doing 'for a boy' but it wasn't just that, she wanted to be able to be close to anyone she cared about. Friends, family and lovers.

What a lot of people overlook with Rogue's choice is that she didn't do it for a boy. Yes, that contributed, but like she told Logan, she wanted to be able to touch other people and interact with them without worrying about nearly killing them. Her mutant power literally made her life hell, that's why she got rid of her power, not just because of a boy, that was just the final straw; she always hated her powers.
@HaganeNoGijutsushi
@HaganeNoGijutsushi 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, she basically would be denied not only any sex life, but even simple things like hugs and kisses. Heck, if she ever wanted a baby she could only adopt or have one by surrogate pregnancy... then never touch them directly, for as long as she lives. If she ever felt sick in public and fainted, and someone rushed to help her without knowing her, she'd hurt or kill them. There's so many ways in which that power would be stressful, scary or guilt inducing. Realistically it would make you depressed and drive you to suicide pretty fucking quickly.

The man with the white hair and beard mowing the lawn was Chris Claremont, who wrote the X-Men (and related comic books) for 17 years, and won numerous awards in the process. Stan Lee & Jack Kirby created the original X-Men, but Claremont put them on the map, and made them a pop culture juggernaut (no pun intended).
@JulioLeonFandinho

Claremont didn't put mutants on the map, he expanded the X-Men during a low moment of the comic series, but all the fundamental ideas about mutants were created by Kirby and Stan Lee and Claremont didn't change them. The fact that it was a huge success it's collateral, I don't think that Claremont himself thought what was going to happen
@thelionsshare6668

@@JulioLeonFandinho Well, the X-Men was never the best selling comic book, prior to Claremont. And they were behind the Fantastic Four and the Avengers as a team, with the Justice League ahead (over at DC) of everyone, and the Legion of Superheroes (also at DC) somewhere in the mix. Magneto was a third rate villain himself, and a raving madman. Mutants were there, but... well, just there. If it weren't for Claremont, the X-Men would've been where the Inhumans or the Eternals are in the MCU. Instead, they were the second run of movies, right after Spiderman.

25:40 Yeah the guy Charles was talking about was actually his twin brother, with the same mutation as him. However, Charles technically formed first in the womb, and the development of his psychic powers in the womb drained the consciousness of his twin away, leaving the twin to be an empty husk. The twin was kept alive all these years because Charles knew he could use his powers to transfer his consciousness into the brother to stay alive. At that point it was just a simple matter of saying "Hey nurses and doctors, if this body ever wakes up, its actually me, Charles Xavier, dodging death like a G"

@@MrSpyderjack well considering magneto too the cure seems to me temporary not permanent so phoenix would have just come back later on all the same. For this specific movie where the phoenix is not an entity but a part of her mutation without charles locking it away there is nothing they could do if she came back so killing her was the only option in this canon.
@MrSpyderjack
@MrSpyderjack Жыл бұрын
@@guitarman0365 You make a great point, I overlooked that back when I watched this movie. I guess it could be reasoned that the cure didn't work because even tho it was synthesized from Jimmy, he was a "lower-class" mutant and that's why it didn't work on Magneto since Erik was a higher class and his mutant genes were too powerful; Jimmy was generating a power field that could temporarily neutralize mutant powers but not eliminate them on a permanent basis. And thus Jean's mutation was even more higher so the Phoenix would have just shaken that cure off.

There is an alternate ending in which Rogue changes her mind and doesn't take the cure, but the director ultimately decided that wouldn't really work as an ending for her and he wanted someone to go through with it. Rogue would still face the same problem of being unable to touch anyone without putting them in a coma. I'm happier with this ending as it actually resolved her problem.

Well, I mean, it makes sense that Marie (Rogue) would want a treatment like this. Every other X-Man (even Scott, really) has abilities they can render inert if they want to. Every other X-Man has abilities they can just forget about until they need them. Not her. And her abilities _drain_ people. If she hangs on too long, they'll end up dead. In the case of mutants, it drains their _abilities._ With abilities like hers, she has to remain _constantly_ on the alert. That means she can't even make physical _contact_ with someone.

Storm's the only other one who seems like she might lose some control... if her mood truly translates into weather, I guess if she was strongly stricken with grief or depressed she might cause hurricanes or other disasters. But that's kind of an edge case and still doesn't compare to Rogue. Also you could make a case that telepathy and mind control as powerful as Professor X's is a major temptation, to the point that you simply shouldn't have it. That's more a matter of personal ethics than fear, though.

I had forgotten about the Charles coming back thing. It's cool to see the origin of that (they used it recently in the comics, to jump start the Krakoa thing). He essentially only dies in body, his telepathy sort of makes him live on as a consciousness in the Astral Plane, so he can just find a body without one or someone willing to give up their body for him to be able to "resurrect" (presumably powerless though, from a genetic point of view, since the new body won't have an X-Gene)

That scene with Scott and Logan are face to face, re-watch it it again slowly and notice that as they zoom in on Scott walking toward the camera notice that the actor walks up a very gradual ramp so when he stops he is eye to eye in height with Logan and when he walks away is walks down a ramp as well. This is because Jame Marsden is about 3 or 4 inches SHORTER than Hugh Jackman and they needed then at the same height not only for the shot but to make Scott, the character, appear taller than the actor.

You can't do this story right in one movie no matter how much you try. MCU may use the Phoenix Force as the next main villain after Kang (Kang also indirectly creates Apocalypse, so there's and X-Men connection) and before Galactus.
@44excalibur
@44excalibur 2 жыл бұрын
@@CalciumChief No, and that's why you have to plan out a comic book movie series way in advance, so you know exactly where the story is going. Even the MCU hasn't done that. Instead, the MCU is just throwing things against a wall to see what sticks. I mean, they did the Thanos storyline and the Infinity Gems without Adam Warlock. They did The Avengers and Ultron without Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne as Ant-Man and Wasp. They did Hydra without the Masters of Evil. The did Captain Marvel without the real Mar-Vell. I could go on and on.

Have you watched the 90s x-men cartoon? Famke resembles more of that one. I disagree with the age. Famke was much more suitable for a femme fatale mature women like Turner. She basically looks almost like the same like the Stark kid who was molested by that Blonde punk King tó me. Again if you pull comics Than there was a scene when Jean asked Logan tó kill her. And in x-men exiles he did indeed stabbed her.

There were a few alternate ending scenes that weren't used for the movie. One where Rogue actually DIDN'T take the cure. She came back to Bobby at the mansion and said she couldn't go through with it. The other being that human Mystique was in playing chess with Magneto in the park at the end to show that now that they're "the same", they're loyal to each other again.
@dntm123
@dntm123 2 жыл бұрын
I get they wanted to keep Magneto as the villain and make him just as bad as the people making and weaponizing the cure, but honestly, I think it would have been more in character for him to not abandon Mystique. For 1, she's been more loyal to him than anyone and there's a real connection between them, and 2, she'd basically be a martyr, which would be beneficial to his cause.

This. Up to now, Erik had understandable motivation - his madness isn't at all arbitrary. Like Loki, he's evil and sympathetic at the same time. Here he becomes a parody of himself: Mystique is still a friend and a mutant in all but effect, and his rejection of her screams plot-driven characterisation. It wrecks the mood for me.

I think it could have made more sense if he picked her up out of pity but sidelined her from then on, treating her with pity and condescension - which eventually led to her betrayal. I can see Magneto being so tied into the mutant-as-identity thing that for him simply not belonging to that "race" any more disqualified you from contributing to the struggle. This was maybe a bit too abrupt, but it was probably all that could be fit into the movie.
@greywolf7577
@greywolf7577 Жыл бұрын
I disagree. Magneto is apologetic to Mystique. He obviously feels sorry for her. But he believes that only mutants can live with other mutants. He can't trust a human, even one that used to be a mutant. He believes in segregation. He's based off of Malcolm X, who also used to believe in racial segregation.

Early in the film Charles posed an ethics question to his class, about transferring consciousness to man in a coma. Rogue did it for herself. Even if her and Bobby were temporary. She would still want future love and to be able to touch another person. With no real long term testing on mutants. There was no guarantee that its affects would be permanent. ✌️❤️🌹

I love watching your reactions... Mainly cuz u pay attention to all the scenes and the acting behind them... 🤗🤗🤗... Most other people only do "Oooohhhs and Aaaahhhs" at the action sequences... And due to this, I really feel like I'm watching old (and new) movies with a lovely friend... (As I'm a pilot, I don't get much time to be with family and friends)... So watching these with u is a really fun way of relieving stress after some long flights... Keep Going... And keep cool... 🤟😎👍 P.S. I would really like to suggest "RED" (1&2)... They are quite fun for what they are...

They need to stop killing off Charles. That's one of the big complaints about these films. Let him still do good if he comes back and have a purpose again, just don't kill him off like he's nothing. This is my favorite of the trilogy. I felt for Rogue, it's not just the fact that she loves Bobby and wants to have a relationship with him, she needs the human touch to be alive. She wants to be normal. The song "Human Touch" by Rick Springfield popped up lol. Time for the prequels VKunia!

It's interesting, for all the crap that this movie got, it's actually aged really well for people that didn't have any expectations going in. Charles asked in class about morality of putting his mind into a healthy man who has a vacant mind. He had a twin brother in some continuities that was without conscious brain activity. So he was contemplating relocating his mind to that body for a long time and did not do it because it was morally wrong, but once he was in deadly danger... As for Magneto moving the chess piece, the mutant they were using to manufacture the cure has area of effect around him, once they go away their powers come back. So I am not surprised the cure is temporary. I just think it would be better if they went with the comic book and made the kid look freaky. He was one of those mutants that could not hide.

I think there is some symmetry to making a kid that can take away mutant powers also look like a kid without powers. Even him being bald helped to show him as someone who stripped away what people had.
