This piece is a good illustration of the technology innovation paradox or the waiting time paradox (not the one that deals with buses) -- the paradox that a task may be completed sooner by starting it later, by exploiting some exponential rate of price drop or speed growth in a technology. Written by Robert Sheckley His work is described as broadly comical, absurdist and satirical. He wrote hundreds of pieces and had many adaptations, but never won a Hugo or Nebula.

It was released in the 50s, bro. On top of that, the slower ship people sound an awful lot like distant successors to some sort of Amish or Luddite people.
