This movie is friggin' awesome! As to Alonso's comment about the "being old factor", I think the movie was making commentary about how we SHOULDN'T be disgusted by elderly people wanting to have sex. The key shot is when they're humping and the mattress is going up and down right above Mia Goth's face. Symbolism for saying that society needs to accept that this is reality and not be repulsed by it.

Well the film is about youth. It's where we tend to feel the most alive and hopeful. The first kill of the movie is dealing with the want of being desired and the other viewpoint in that scene is may I help you back in the house. The film does stay with you a lot longer than you would of expected. Great Review Breakdown!

I was pleasantly surprised when I say it when it first came out. While I had seen the trailer before hand I didn't have any real expectation, I thought the trailer was cool and the few movies from A24 I have seen were great. It caught me with in the first five or ten minutes and I stayed hooked. I am just sorry I didn't know about the end credits thing before hand. But since I have plans to buy it once it comes out on physical media I'll see it.

This is definitely my favorite movie of the year so far. Love the sleazy, grindhouse feel. Funny that Christy compared it to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Boogie Nights, since both of those are in my top 5 favorite movies.

great movie indeed. Its very well done. The pacing of this movie is excellent. How it slowly builds the set up and then goes for the kills, literally. The acting and casting is top notch, and given the plot its a credit to the actors that they perform so well. After all at the end of the day its a barebones slasher and there is really not much depth in their characters except the lead maybe. But they really take on their roles. And a great screenplay, casting, and very smart dialogues make it a great movie. There are no exaggerated sequences, no twisted and over the top violence but a well crafted narrative that is spontaneous and well acted make it a winner. There is nothing cheap or commercial or excessive in the movie. Its artistic and genuinely well made. This is one of better horror movies I have seen. It ranks with the likes of Get Out, Child's Play, Tucker and Dale and Let the Right One in. My rating is 7.8. I deducted some points because the movie does not give you the retro feel it intended but other than that its perfect. After Pig A24 has really delivered another solid movie. You have to hand them. They are making some great low budget but high quality movies.

cool, yeah, the 80s did make an interesting mark on the film industry. While there are some inspired horror films of that era they were very shallow and larger than the next one. There was a puritanical judgement on character, then instead of "oh, that guys a scumbag, lets root as the monster gets his revenge" character dynamic.

yeah it was good. also the filmmaking was unique. along with the script, it represents the shot composition of most films from that time. of the genre. Also I like how it kindove mocks the Titillating nature of Pre 1990's porn. how graphic but somewhat dull in nature it is. mainly silly in low budget production. I feel like if it was before the 90s, it was cheap and sexy in a "you can't find this anywhere, and can't make this up" sort of way.

⚠️WARNING SPOILER ALERT ⚠️ I give it a 8 for originality of the story line . For the horror lover i say this, its a regular non supernatural "slasher movie". Knife + stabbing + blood = slasher. My only gripe with it was the slow pace. However thinking on it I think it was necessary. The first half you (audience) kind of feel sorry for the elderly lady. They even included a song to make the audience feel were the elderly lady's narrative is "going". At the same time you can somewhat relate to the other characters as you get to know them. So now, I get the slow pace. Then you get to see her true motive and it's creepy AF lol 😆. Let a seemingly confused elderly grandma lean toward you for a innocent hug and have her start sensually licking on your neck 😳. NO. 😵 GRANDMA NO.... lol. In all I enjoyed it. It made me feel a uncomfortable (not the sex scenes) just the way she climaxed while she was killing the first kill. That's what horror is suppose to do make you feel uncomfortable 🤗🍒 Ps; I'm sure Pearl's been doing this for a long time feeding that crock. Very excited to see part 2.

There's a photo of Pearl on the stairwell that Mia Goth looks at for a second, and Pearl looks identical to the Goth character in this. So when I heard about the Pearl sequel, I just figured it was a shout out to them being the same actress, but not related or some sort of sci-fi fuckery.

I loved this! I totally felt what Christy was saying about how it's very much the style and sleaze and grime of a 70's film, but the women are smart and have agency and the characters talk openly about sex and love in a way that felt extremely modern. There was no contrived jealousy over who's having sex with Scott Mescudi (who I also thought was fantastic and totally got the film he was in), and most of the guys weren't sleazy in a pimpy way like you'd might expect. I really loved the opening shot, which looks exactly like it's shot in "A24 ratio," but it's actually just the camera pulling through the barn doors. I liked how Jenna Ortega's character is sort of a twist on the "innocent church girl who has a sexual awakening" porno trope. The characters died in a very unpredictable order which I appreciated, and I definitely wasn't expecting some of those deaths to occur in the way they did. I definitely wasn't expecting the death that occurs before the final showdown. My only complaint was how that showdown played out. It was a moment of "hand of God" irony which I respect in a subversive way, but by then I was really expecting a more tense and cathartic chase or fight like the end of Texas Chain Saw Massacre. So that was a little disappointing, but the very last moment of gory catharsis was gnarly. Do we think this will be a trilogy? There's more story to tell with what we learn about the survivor, and maybe some sort of "continuing of the cycle" if we see them older. I'd totally be down for that!

I enjoyed the setup, especially the homage to 70s horror and porn, but once the kills start the movie becomes a typical A24 arthouse horror movie (I'm not a fan). The horror scenes are clumsy, lethargic and uncinematic. Typical A24. So the early parts are retro, while the climax is not.

This movie was such a snooze- I laughed at many of its conceits. A character gets poked through the face by looking through holes in the barn wall perfectly placed & spaced for a convenient pitchfork. Great cinematography though. Going to skip Pearl for sure because the old couple came off as ridiculous & exploitive, and I just don't care about her origin story.
