thank you Japanese Friends, Greetings from Germany

We,Japanese, are very fond of German music.from Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, etc. Alte Kameraden is my favourite: the best in the world. Go, Germany !!! Greetings from Japan.
The performer is "陸上自衛隊中央音楽隊: Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Central Band" led by 高橋良雄: Yoshio Takahashi. This recording is included in "新・吹奏楽名曲コレクション ウインド・スタンダーズVol.10 マーチ・セレクションⅡ (CD Number:TOCZ-9303, ASIN:B00005GMTJ)" Unfortunately this CD is out of press, but same recording is still available by other Japanese CDs.
This is the best version of Alte Kameraden! First heard this on a Toshiba records CD in the early 1990s. The Japan Self Defense forces bands are world class performers!

I agree. They are among the best. They can even make bad marches to sound great, as for example Badenweiler marsch kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHjUYqWoitCrfLM
My father used to play this great piece of music along with all the other good marching tunes/songs and was proud to be a German and proud of his country.
This march is widely used in Japan for various sports events including those of elementary schools, junior highs and high schools! This march is loved by many Japanese.

A great German March composed by C.Teike and loved by so many Japanese. This certainly is my favorite march, and is a super performance by Japan's Self Defense Force's(=Armed Force's) Central Band !!!!!

Yes, we Japanese are still interested in Germany, not only politically or militarily but musically as well.We admire your great music, from Bach ,Mozart, Beethoven to the more recent ones, but also love such a great march as "Kameraden". We have a lot of symphony orchestras that plays tthese music and this one was played by the Japanese Self Defence Force's (our Armed Forces') Brass Band. It's a very good performance, don't you think? Come to Japan. We are very friendly nation to Germany. Greetings !

Memories of Ipswich Speedway in the 1970's and 80's! The track staff and St Johns Ambulance Brigade used to march out to this at the start of the meeting. Two rows side by side across the stock and Speedway track until they reached the middle flagpole on the centre green where they would break off single file left and right to their positions. Then John Earrey would come on and welcome everyone to Foxhall heath, the home of Ipswich Speedway. Happy days!
Best marching tune I,ve heard. The germans certainly marched & sang to great martial music! This one is simply awesome, I would have loved to have seen them marching to this tune, simply beautiful, kudos to it's composer.

They used to play this always at representation of horse races in 1970's. I was about 10 and I remember it loud and clear.

Alte Kameraden is mistranslated in Japanese as 旧友=Old Friend, but it should be translated as War-comrade or Fellow soldier=戦友, because komraden means a comrade in arms.

言い独海 I totaly agree with your opinioin. Good luck.
An excellent march. One I might have mistaken for something Sousa might have written. Very well performed.

Withmarron: The correct translation of "Alte Kameraden" in English is "Old Comrads" or "Old Friends" it is plural not singular....Other than that, thanks for posting this fine march. It was written by Carl Teike, from Wuerttemburg, he was a Lancer in the 26er Ulanen Regiment, and later a policeman in his home country.

There are marches, there are good marches and then there are great marches. 'Alte Kameraden' is one of the great ones. And this is the best version on KZbin. Thank you for an excellent presentation.

Not only the army maintain Prussian traditions. Also Schools with School Bands march along Prussian traditions. Marchs like this are one of the many German Marchs that are played every day in our Country. Long live Prussian Traditions!!!
