One quick question, I did this in Atlanta Georgia, I feel right at home, but how far out until the textures go back to default? Can I change how far out the textures reach? Like 100 miles?

The textures will go as far as the Long and Lat you specify. If you select the aircraft position, look into the local map. It will give you the exact coordinates that the mesh will be created for. Or you can create the mesh for the aircraft position and move the aircraft to the next adjacent area and create another set.

Is there a reason on why one would use G2XPL instead of the Ortho4XP? This is not a sarcastic question. If I'm not mistaken Ortho4XP is easier to use with a proper interface that also incorporates a map so you don't need to search for tile labels. Also, the latest version for windows doesn't require any further fiddling with other plugins if you're a windows user that is. You just download and run Ortho4XP inside the bin folder. No need to search for python software or other programs.

Ortho4XP is a great tool, and perhaps I will cover at some stage. It is though more tricky to set it up. It is python based and requires some work, but great once installed.

Bull Bosphorus tileproxy for fsx it downloads photoreal in real time as you fly. I think Xplane should get something like tileproxy cuz you can basically fly anywhere and have it download as you fly then automatically delete it after you fly pass that area . I can imagine that if you wanna get photoreal scenery with g2xpl on medium haul flights eg. EGLL to OMDB will take up tens or even hundreds of GB of hard disk space ....

Great video. So I downloaded the full version after a donation. However, when a run XP 10.51 it doesn't ask me to locate the g2xpl.exe file and therefore the plugin is not listed in plugins. The G2Xpl messages pops up but it says 1:g2xpl.exe console program not found under X-Plane plugins folder 2:and plugin asked for its location. 3:G2xpl plugin will not run: 4:g2xpl.exe file missing the .exe file is in the G2XPL folder located in the resources/plugins folder. What is happening? BTW, when I start XP, it lists the g2xpl loading for a long time before moving on to loading aircraft and scenery. TIA

Hey John, I am glad you found this to be useful. The final result is pretty much the same as Ortho4XP. The way things are created is slightly different though. I am pretty happy with G2XPL =)

That's probably because you are using Google service. Deactivate Google and use virtual earth service.

David Herky Thanks David, try setting the path from x-plane directly by running the plugin. You will need to run x-plane with admin rights to be able to right to the file from within the plugin.

Cheers. I find that the plug in removes the path to X Plane every time its run. Although the demo now "seems" to work, I can see no difference in the scenery after g2xpl has finished its work? I emailed the creator but he has not replied. I am trying the Demo version....perhaps its not working the same as the contribution ware one? You know, I wish X Plane 11 had this scenery ready built in. All this do it yourself stuff is a PITA. All I want to do is fly, not make my own scenery. This drives me back to P3d and Orbx!!

This indicate a problem with your Graphic card acceleration. Did you copy the provided nvtt.dll into the G2XPL folder? If yes, you might want to disable CUDA acceleration from the ini file.

Found an older video on this, perhaps a year old. The guy who made the video edited it and stated there was really no reason to do this anymore because more good scenery was getting made. I think the method was different though, required you to download the data first then convert it then get it working in X-Plane. I'd like to try this. My goal for my new X-Plane 10 is to get as much fun type scenery with 3d models as possible, places like area 51, the pyramids of Egypt, the Nazca lines in Peru etc.

You can specify the Long and Lat for Canada, and the whole area will be created so yes it is possible. All of Canada though in one go will probably eat up a lot of disk space and will probably take a very long time to process.

CUDA is an accelerator. You should be find without it, but with it processing will be faster.

First off, thank you for the Tutorial, it helps a lot! :D I used this method to create multiple sceneries, however many of them, the airport in the scenery is offset by a few miles from the airport in X-Plane. Did you have this issue happen at all? If so, could you please let me know what you did to resolve it?

The best way to find out is to specify the long and lat of a really large area and see if the service times out. I have done the entire area of Kuwait (a small country though) with no problems.

If you purchase x-plane 10 today, you will receive a free upgrade to xplane 11 on launch day. I highly recommend that you do get x-plane now. The changes in X-Plane 11 are mainly the GUI and some light and reflection enhancements.
