One thing I don't see enough riders doing is to rev-match the downshifts. Simply blip the throttle as you've pulled in the clutch, downshift, and when done correctly, your RPMs will match the lower gear. It's less wear on the entire drivetrain (inc the clutch), and frankly, it's just the correct way to use all manual trannys.

Great review! Thanks! I have been riding since the early 70's and have a Harley now. But that is not how I started! My first real bike was a 72 Yamaha 200 twin cylinder two stroke with similar issues seen here. What the previous generation of bikers taught me was that they are machines and as such are not perfect. If one buys a motorcycle, that is your bike now. Instead of whining about it's imperfections, get to know your bike by riding it and fixing or making adjustments accordingly until it runs as it should for WHAT IT IS. Your imperfect review, and you admitted it so at the end of the video, still actually told me most everything I wanted to know about the bike, so don't be afraid to do more of these. Those of us who have ridden for a while understand and appreciate the effort! Despite the perceived anomalies, this appears to be a great beginner bike for someone willing to look after it or a superb kick around bike. Anyway, thanks for the review!

Negative should always be first to disconnect, last to connect. The reason you don’t connect Negative first is because it will provide a path to ground through the frame and everything else while you are working on the Positive terminal. While working on the Positive terminal your tool could short on the frame or anything else, become red-hot, and literally weld itself to them. Not good!

How does negative provide a path to ground
@emmettturner9452 Жыл бұрын
@@beastman9769 Negative **IS** ground. The negative terminal is the ground terminal. “In electrical engineering, ground or earth is a reference point in an electrical circuit from which voltages are measured, a common return path for electric current…”
@emmettturner9452 Жыл бұрын
@@beastman9769 From “What is Ground in Electronic Circuits?” “…in a circuit with one battery (with a positive and a negative terminal), we usually refer to the negative terminal as ground.” This is the exact reference I was making. To “ground” a battery-powered electrical circuit is to give the voltage a low impedance return path to the negative terminal. The frame is connected directly to the negative terminal, thus, it is like one large negative terminal. Any part of the frame is a direct path to ground for all of the 12v automotive circuits.

ok one thing you should always connect the positive first==because if wile connecting the positive your tool hits the frame of the bike or car or what ever or any other place on the bike there is no short or spark and if positive is connected first then when connecting the negative the only way you can create a short is by your tool hitting the positive terminal on the other side of the battery not the frame or other parts of the bike == but if you connect the negative first then when you are connecting the positive you can create a short with your wrench by your wrench touching any mettle part of the bike or car or thing the battery is in and the negative post on the battery ..in other words your odds are allot less that you will short something and burn things up :-) also synthetic oil is only needed if you run a extrema high temp situation like a turbo application so any name brand conventional 10w40 will give you just as good of protection for half the cost as any synthetic.

Jay, you might want to change the oil from the full synthetic to a non detergent oil certified for a motorcycle wet clutch Jaso Ma 1 or Ma 2 . The full synthetic oil could cause problems with your wet clutch and cause it to slip. Read in the manual for what they recommend you use for break in and wet clutch operation. Synthetic car oil has "friction modifiers", motorcycle synthetic for wet clutches is fine.

Is this a 250cc single or twin cylinder engine? It resembles the Ninja 300 in some ways. Thanks for the assembly and review. Interesting bike. I spent years on my Ninja 250R, always thinking I'd trade it in sooner, but kept realizing it was fully capable for what I needed at that time and fun to ride. It could handle freeways without any issues, but wasn't able to accelerate up hills with any urgency as the main limit of that twin cylinder 250cc engine with about 31 hp and 18 ft lbs torque back then, top speed said 110 mph downhill. It was a lot of fun to ride, so I kept it and put on 35,000+ miles before trading it in. I used to get a range of 235 miles from a full tank till near empty. I see the Kawasaki Ninja 250R was replaced with the 300, then the 400, and now in 2024, the Ninja 450 (500) in the US. Currently have a Ninja 650, which is a fun bike too.
