This helped me so much. The only thing I’m still confused about is the mA meter. Why is it by the step-up transformer when the mA selector is by the filament transformer? If the final meant transformer is to produce the correct mA, and the high-voltage side is to produce the correct kVp, why does it matter what the mA is on the kVp side?

The mA METER only works when the tube is "live", that is, when you depress the switch completely down. It doesn't control anything, just measures, or "meters" it. It appears on the control panel but is in the high voltage area so it MUST be grounded.
