Ya personally I also started on second edition and moved to first edition because it is simpler and more fun in my opinion. Even with the tournament problems they were mostly FAQed and fixed so running a first edition tournament now would be super fun.

Gripe rant time. 1. Changes that are neutral but really don't justify themselves,such as green manuevers becoming blue,etc. 2. The compression of pilot skills,from one to nine with the ability to widen that into zero to 12 through effects,now it's just to six,meaning less flexibility for the choices one can make. 3. Crappy packaging,I can no longer rely on the sturdy plastic shell to protect my expensive lil' ships,nor hold all their items,forcing me to spend more money just to get a case if I ever get a second edition vessel. 4. Squads being limited to only that tiny little recommended cards for building or the online system where they're supposed to update the point system,which as you have stated good Sir,is outdated since the transfer to Atomic Games,the online component itself simply making it harder to get people to stop looking at their damn smartphones long enough for me to tell them how not to fly off the edge of the map. 5. The lack of love for the Huge vessels,which aren't given any sort of space to play in due to this current stupid mindset of tournament players only. 6. Not exactly related to the second edition,but the transfer from FFG to Atomic Games meant no more very easy to see articles about what's new,I still can't find a direct source for new updates to the game anywhere,it's always a KZbin video weeks after the fact by some kind soul who bought the expansion. 7. Changes made that are good but should've just been applied to the original game through an update kit(similar to how the conversion kit worked),such as the logical medium ship size,the rear firing arc for the Lambda,and the Clone War era stuff. 8. The thing I absolute hate the most,caused more by Disney being the lazy evil corporation that they are,is the sheer expense plus lack of supply for the game in SEA,or even Asia in general,the nearly four times conversion rate hampered by the shipping costs to the store,what was RM 65.00-ish MYR for a single small ship expansion pack became RM 165.00-ish MYR,Corona-chan wasn't even a factor when this happened. Having spent a good chunk of money on the game,I am now stuck,unable to really do much aside from the occasional college buddies who play with me,and my want to collect one of each in their original packaging with all their cardboard bits is now harder then ever before.

When 2nd Edition rolled out, to me and my buddies it was a huge disappointment. I 100% agree that 1st Edition had an extremely unhealthy tournament environment, but if you're just hanging out with the guys, playing a friendly game and just using fun ships, 1st Edition was way better.

Yeah I can say I’m an x wing 1st edition player and I dropped out when they went to 2nd edition. I kept all my stuff and mostly kept through it through all the time 1st edition was around. In my opinion 1st edition was the best and the best for all kinds of players. Just the numbers point out the game is in decline from its high water mark of 1st edition. Edit: For what it’s worth Star Trek attack wing is also very fun. As well the painting got much better for it. I’d say the upgrades are much nicer for Star Trek again just my opinion.

Played both, first and second, even though first is little broken in some ways, my biggest problem with second, is what I call the paper chase, todays world, online chase. It is constantly changing, whereas 1st is set.

I don't play in tournaments, and have no intention of ever doing so. That being the case, I don't care about their multitudinous rules and point changes. If your opponent and you agree beforehand on rules and points, that's all that matters. I gave up a while ago trying to keep up with their ridiculous changes.

Clarification: In 1st Edition, you can only add one upgrade card type per upgrade symbol on a Pilot card, so in the case of Luke Skywalker, you can load one Astromech that stays in use as long as the ship is intact, and one volley of torpedoes which is discarded after use. The 1st edition rulebook is very clear on this (unlike the 2nd, which merely says "Go online and figure it out yourself.")

1st edition is superior, you have points on cards so you don't even need any online builders, the attack and defense are right on bases, so you don't have to even reference cards, etc... Cards are smaller and more neat. The only better thing about second edition is medium base size.

Agreed. They're not even trying to hide their racism. However, it may end up costing them their own seats in the long game. If 2020 taught us anything, when citizens feel threatened by their lawmakers, they vote.
