X100VI - Are you on the Hype Train?? Initial thoughts from a Leica / Sony fanboy.

Fuji said there were going to build enough X100VI to satisfy demand and by golly, it looks like they have! The X100VI is a worthy successor to the X100V and I'm excited to get out there and spend some time with it. If it's even half as good as the X100V it'll be a keeper!

I got one in a week with extra battery, 256G SD, and a case on no extra cost. Great little camera.

I ordered one but it was pretty late, so it may be awhile before I receive it. I couldn’t decide if a xs20 or xt5 would be a better play for me. I guess I’ll have time to decide

The X-T5 felt very plasticky and cheap. The X100V feels better built by a fairly wide margin. Hopefully you get yours soon!!

@@RandumbTech Good luck with your decision. Definitely a 1st world decision. XT5, XS20, X100VI. It depends on what you want. I have the XS10 and love it. I think of it as the XT40. I haven’t outgrown the XS10 so no update there for me. I like the size and weight of the XS body plus the interchangeable lens capabilities. How often do you use the EVF vs optical VF? I may have to try the VI. I was excited by the original X100 and hoped it could satisfy my "Leica" itch. Long time M film user and the M9 was too expensive. Eventually sold the X100. Loved the small size and the files, but had too many focus issues. Came back again for the T version but it still had performance issues that left me wanting. Eventually went with a Leica M262, which I still have. Love the files out of that camera. But still keep thinking about how small and light the X100 is. Such a great "snapshot camera." Maybe the third time in the charm for me and the X100 series? Much better AF and good video capability combined with what should be a much better EVF experience.

I use the EVF about 90% instead of OVF. The only time I use the OVF is if I am waiting for someone/something to enter the frame and I already have my exposure dialed in. You will not regret buying an X100VI - especially if you're coming from Leica. The manual controls are nice to use and the image output is quite good. Let's be real, it's not a Leica, but it's still a lot of fun to just grab and go.

That’s exactly why I’m trying to get the x100vi cuz the q2 is heavy and lens sticks out so much! I want the Fuji to have as a knock around and pocketable compared to q2. I actually went to Japan last year and left the q2 home….no regrets. The q2 is crazy sharp and I’m not a pixel peeper. I’m more interested in the colors, skin tones, no BS film simulation crap. The q2 colors are fabulous and once I set while balance (indoors) I’m jpegs all day. I hope to get the x100vi soon. Btw I like the way you covered the big ass red dot!

The 100VI is a great camera to just grab and go, especially with the family. I love the Q2 when I have some time to myself and can be more deliberate. I use black electrical tape on nearly all of my cameras 🤣. Not a big fan of drawing attention with a red dot or big SONY logo.

Bummer!! Seems to be luck of the draw with most stores, even B&H. I wish they allowed you to see where you were on the list, but there is zero visibility into it. Hope you get yours soon!

@@TomASwift My B&H message didn’t even suggest a shipping date. I’m hoping for the end of the summer. I preordered 2/20 @ 0900 EST because my B&H credit card charge didn’t go through. I had to wait until the store opened. How many hundreds of order were placed between the time I tried ordering and when the order was accepted? I’m thinking about canceling the order. I think you may be waiting for quite some time. I’m really surprised Sony hasn’t updated that camera yet. It would sell well in today’s market (assuming it’s priced competitively).

I don't disagree at all. However, I prefer to draw less attention to myself when out shooting. I had a silver XT-3 and people used to stop me all the time to ask me questions and wanting to talk about my "film" camera. 🤣

I’ve been very impressed by the improvements Fuji has made to the AF. The last Fuji I owned was the X-T4 and much snappier. Not Sony level but good enough for a fixed lens camera. The A7CR is a lot more expensive and lacking the manual controls that make the X100VI so special. But if that combo works best for you, that’s cool too 😎

It may have IBIS, but Fuji’s implementation is poor as is their autofocus. You’ll notice both of these issues pretty quickly given if you are coming from the Sony World.

My initial impressions with IBIS is that’s it’s way better than not having it at all. I’m getting about 4 stops consistently and easily. Well aware of The AF issues as well. I’m not expecting it to match Sony performance but it’s a significant upgrade to the X100V that I had.

Now we comes to the excuses. the A7CII and a6700 are too big. Really???? But you overlooked the ZV-E10.Why? Talk about a very capable, compact camera, the ZV-E10 can be fitted with a few pancake lenses to keep it small. You underestimate that camera. I also won the A7CR and A73R, and I can tell you how incredible the feel and handling of the ZV-E10 is. The ZV has an excellent focusing system, better than Fuji and a real flippy screen, not a flip-up screen. The Fuji reeks of hype. That's a poor reason to buy anything.

I shot Fuji for a loooooong time so I'm very familiar with their pros and cons. This X100VI is better in just about every way compared to the old ones. I just love the fact that it's all one simple camera that gets out of the way and just lets me shoot. I still struggle with the Sony PASM dials to dial in my exposure quickly. I shoot manual most of the time so having the dedicated dials is great for my style of shooting. But if the Sony works great for you style, that's cool too!

I would never sell a used camera for more than I bought it for. X100VI is clearly not worth more than a thousand dollars, so most of what you say is meaningless.

Never? Why not? What someone pays for something has nothing to do with what one sells it for. Would you sell your "used" house for more than you paid for it? Of course you would. A camera is usually a depreciating asset, but in this rare case, it actually appreciated.
