@@fertilebeef802 Pros: Darker tone like Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated. Suspense and awesome story-telling. Incredible voice acting from Mark Hamill and Patrick Stewart. Creepy soundtrack. The PlayStation 2 version is considered the lead-development platform besides GameCube and Xbox and the best version of the game. Intense boss-fights. It is followed by a superior and violent well-done Wolverine tie-in game for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC (as well as toned-down versions for Wii and PS2). Cons: Most enemies of the game are the same. The difficulty of the game is very hard and there's no difficulty selection unlike Spider-Man (2000). The sound of the enemies were annoying and repetitive. Lack of mid-level checkpoints. Despite featuring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine on the box-art and hint that it's a tie-in to the X2 film, but it's actually based on the comic book X-Men and he was voiced by Mark Hamill. No sequel to the game despite there's a sequel-bait ending featuring Apocalypse; in fact, the game sold poorly due to mediocre reception from critics upon release.

I was stoked to come across this game back in the 2000s. I wasn't even aware of the X-Men universe until I saw Hugh Jackman's X-Men on cable TV. Then the cartoon channels began running the X-Men series, which was a real struggle between my parents wanting to watch things they wanted to, stupid school homework, and electrical failures. So eventually when I did play this game on a budget, it really was frustrating, yet appealing in a way. All these experiences made me feel sympathetic to the mutants in the X-Men universe who suffered identity crises, homelessness, battling other mutants, battling other humans, and boss villains.

I played PC port with crazy KB controls... And managed to beat it... I didn't knew you can regenerate health until in chapter 4 found out you can hide claws with Num 5 - FREAKIN' NUM 5 KEY - and this being chapter 4 we are talking about - it didn't help at all because sentry lasers make a swiss Wolverine cheese in 2 seconds. Yep! This guy... THIS GENIUS BYPASSED VENDIGO in Act 2 where game supposedly force you to use barehand fighting style to stun and toss soldiers to him to proceed... BY LURING THEM TO HIM. May i remind you I didn't know you i can regenerate health and it was always had to be done from first try? Man to this day I remember by heart where freakin' health pick ups are... And this sweet-sweet awesome Sabertooth boss fight music from Act 1... Man this is the stuff. The game was clunky indeed - but it did felt like you're playing Wolverine (less unstoppable and more ferocious and tactical one who actually uses his brain to be the best of the best) - to this day i remember it as a good albeit rough on the edges experience. P.S. My PC version didn't even had cutscenes in it! I just thought it was a series of different disconnected stories - Wolverine Origin, Wolverine First X-Men Mission (cause Wendigo was his first one), Sabertooth rematch, Helping Colossus out of The Void prison (completely backwards, right?), Stopping Magneto attack and duking it out against crazy woman on a roof. Like episodes from Wolverine's daily life... WHAT "FIND THE CURE" PLOT?! it was in the game? For real? Welp shiver me timbers i'm so bamboozled.

You HATE this game just because it's too hard?! God, look at other good games with bulls**t difficulty! Rayman 1 was a good game that was hard! Super Meat Boy was a good game that was hard! Hell, even Jak 2, with its lack of checkpoints and erratic difficulty spikes, was a great game that I still replay to this day! F***ing hell, I even remember taking my frustration on biting my hand during the turret mission, but even then, I still enjoy it to this day! Unlike you with Wolverine's Revenge! I know that Origins is the better Wolvie title, but for PS2, Xbox and Gamecube, I think they did fairly well, if I do say so myself, I know you'll disagree!

ZPB Studios Maybe there’s a reason it’s hard to find a positive review of X2 haha I don’t dislike it because it’s hard, I dislike it because it’s _bad_ , which is what _makes it_ hard, at least imo. Jak 2 and SMB are two of my favorite games ever as well, and yes they’re difficult, but that’s because they were put together with care and polish, and were designed to be challenging. X2 is challenging because it LACKS good design; you’re constantly struggling against the trial-and-error format, the bad checkpoints, the confusing and uninformative level design, the awkward tank controls and the half-baked combat. I so wish I could still enjoy this game, I want to love it as much as I used to, but playing this game in 2019 was a freakin’ slog and a half for me haha. I don’t genuinely hate it though tbh, too many good memories with it! I mostly exaggerated my hate so I could justify that final funny shot of smashing it with a hammer.

@@PurposelessRabbitholes I'm sorry, Mr Rabbitholes. I just realised that it's just an opinion and I will respect it, no matter how harsh you sounded in the review, but I laughed at the disc destruction scene near the end. I do hate the stealth sections, but the tower climb in the Void, the Wendigo and Magneto fights are entertaining enough for me that I can't really complain I plan on reviewing X2, because that game gave me quite the feeling, not to judge you or anything. X2 received mixed reviews, but I can see your point of view. If they added new environments and focused more on combat than stealth, maybe this could be better, but it's meh, I suppose. Anyway thanks.

@@PurposelessRabbitholes if the healing factor was as fast as it should be as well as active during combat instead of taking 200 yrs which makes you hide and become a statue i suspect that it would've received better reviews. One of the many reasons why Origins is the best Wolverine game out there is because of the healing factor being faster and active during combat. The combat is also better. sure, the stealth animations was lacking, but the focus wasn't on stealth unlike it clearly was for Wolverine's Revenge.

@@Soron661 What about the forgotten light gun game from 2004? The game was a sleeper hit and was developed by the company of Big Buck Hunter games and has akimbo feature and the cutscenes was a comic-book styled, the title was Action Hero and was published by the company of redemption games that also had a deal with a BBH company for Pink Panther video redemption platforming game as well as Monopoly video redemption party game with spinner controls and Ice Age: Ice Breaker video redemption "hit-a-nut" game.

I remember attempting to play this in 2004 and it ran like crap on my PC so I debated sticking it out and powering through the issues. Thankfully around that time a little ditty of a game called Half-Life 2 was released and I went that route instead. Talk about dodging a bullet. I debated giving this a go again recently as well (already played every other X-Men game I could get my hands on) and luckily this came up and dissuaded the fuck out of that. Also just wanted to say I loved this video. The pacing, editing, humor, basically the whole shebang entertained, informed, and cracked me the fuck up. Now that my rambling is over it's time to binge watch your back entire catalog! (insert maniacal laughter here)

This game is great but it has the same flaw as X-Men Origins where it goes from larger levels to just a sequence of boss battles. Not enough people have heard of it but I like this game, it's not as difficult with the one helpful cheat. I even found it harder than X-Men Legends (without using Danger Room). Soundtrack is lit too.

Purposeless Rabbitholes the Wolverine's Revenge game has serveral differences: on the GameCube, Xbox, and Windows version of the game, the music is normal speed, but on the PlayStation 2 version of the game, the music is speed up, probably due to audio issues.
