it kinda just build on DMC3 and improved every aspect of it. Nero's weapons are a good fit and just make up for the lack of variety that Danté normally gets, but there's something oddly satisfying constantly insta revving his weapon after each slash and build a combo from that. and Danté's gameplay is just peak DMC, all 4 of his styles are there, plenty of weapons and also interesting again. storywise, Nero kinda felt like a knock off Danté, which is kinda the point I guess since Vergil looks exactly like Danté but decides to spike his hair to be different, but Nero's 1 liners need some work, especially when Danté becomes the main character again and just steals every show he possibly could in a few missions.

I love how stark the difference is between Dante’s effort towards fights here against all the other dmc games. This game is essentially like Dante on vacation compared to the very start of 5 where the first thing you see is him fighting/losing the hardest he has had to since DMC3, or even 1 since he’s a lot more emotionally invested in the Mundus fight.

5th is highly overrated due to fans starving for a new DMC game for over a decade (not counting the reboot). When you look at it without hype or other biases, it's very flawed, even its combat.
@davedm16 ай бұрын
@@turbotrup96Bro where have you been all my life!!!? It pissed me off all the major f*** ups in that game that ALL the reviewers and fans love to ignore. In terms of animation (attacks, dodges, jumps, tricks, etc), it's not even DMC, let alone the worst. Never thought I'd see Dante move so choppy like I'm playing Uncharted. Also, don't know who told them that game engine they chose was the best for a fast pace action game with crazy effects. Let's not also forget that there are 4 swords in the game with the EXACT SAME MOVESET. They couldn't even give sparda sword the moveset they gave TRISH in 4! I just have to accept that they've lost their way, and other developers (inspired by them ironically) have much better alternatives. They are also willing and capable of going above and beyond, and have a very satisfied fanbase.
@turbotrup966 ай бұрын
@@davedm1 Animation is the unfortunate result of all the mainstream AAA developers trying too hard to make their characters move realistically. I think that also makes them feel more sluggish because they are overanimated and have too smooth transitions between movement, therefore less sharp, less "sudden". But they also DID actually slow down few things, such Nero's Devil Bringer pulling move, and the falling animation (of enemies, at least). My problems with DMC5: 1. The art direction is bad when it comes to a franchise that's known for its Gothic architecture. But also the enemy design got much more generic, "americanized" even. On top of all that, both are so dark they blend in with each other. Also, Dante looks like an old man, sometimes even a hobo... 2. Little to zero in-between activities; just walking through empty big stages with pathetic platforming segments that might as well not be in there. 3. Weak stage variety: -Pick city ruins, basic underground areas or an extremely repetitive Demon-Tree-Whatever-That-Was-That-Lasted-For-Half-of-The-Game. 4. The story is a safe, not very thought-through, fanservice with some overly convenient writing. Its "complexity" is laughable. 5. There are very few action scenes in the cutscenes. That's lame, because DMC3 and 4 had some legendary fights in them, which've aged REALLY WELL despite being old. 6. The combat: -You HAVE to play as freakin V for multiple stages; -Devil Bringer is ass when you don't know what enemies you can expect and when, because you can't change your prosthetic arm on the fly, you have to sacrifice it each time you want to change it, which removes freedom in combat; -YET AGAIN, you have to play lots of content 1st to be able to buy and get cool combos and weapons. Meanwhile, you can do cool stuff in DmC (the reboot) since Stage 2 or 3; -Skill ceiling is lower than in 4; -It's significantly slower than prequels; -it's too easy on the 1st Playthrough.
@davedm16 ай бұрын
@@turbotrup96 Thank you. I couldn't agree more...with every point. You're definitely better at organising your points. Vee is really a waste of space, and he got the "boss rush". Brilliant. By the time we got to Dante's missions, the idea bucked was already low. Remember how slow they made Vergil's mirage edge combos? Vergil...the speed freak. Also, beowulf used to be a ripping and tearing weapon that showed off Vergil's finesse, now it's a slow, heavy boxing glove. Speaking of Vergil, he now has a lot of redundant trick animations ((blur, after image, slide dodge, slowest teleport (enemy can see after images that expose your trajectory)in gaming)) that make his fights look messy. Worse still, you have to embed a summoned sword first. No multiple Vergil boss fights...Nero's doesn't count for me lol. There was absolutely no reason for the prosthetics being breakable. Also, when you die and don't want to use items (which they penalise for), you have to select "give up". S rank in now a joke. Too many (long) loadscreens. Dante definitely looks like an old hobo now. He and Vergils costumes are rough, dirty and torn...Vergil, Mr OCD!!! You have to use a cheat code to even use the clean costume. The list is too long lol. They definitely don't know their audience or what we liked about their previous titles. The devs also forgot along the way that identical twins are supposed to look IDENTICAL!
@turbotrup966 ай бұрын
@@davedm1 I haven't played much as Vergil and don't remember him much, but I can still tell that certain visual effects and sound design of attacks are not consistent with his DMC3 self. Then again, same goes for Dante. But yeah, Vergil having a different face model and his hairstyle being permanent are just silly. Oh, I also forgot: lack of fix'd camera angles. They really did make DMC feel more unique in comparison to other action games. Also added a decent amount of horror vibes (same happened to Resident Evil and Silent Hill). I also had mix'd feelings in regards to the inability to use items mid combat. Load Screens were bad, yeah. I've heard they fix'd them on the Current consoles, though. I'm not a fan of the clothing style of the main characters, either. I think many visual choices are an effect of Capcom trying to copy some of the RE7's style (dark, dirty, focus on realism). Unfortunately, due to hype culture and starving for some new DMC content, I think many, if not most, fans - have been persuaded that these changes are good. Most people I talk to don't care about in-between activities. "I play DMC for combat." - they say. They also often say the enemy design is great, if not the best. They don't care about most other art direction changes, either.

The thing is with 2 times for each boss and backtracking - its a great idea - it really shows a difference both in power and in attitude between Nero and Dante. 3rd time was supposed to show how Nero grew up to Dantes level, but yeah... This was kind of overkill. Even despite 4th being my favorite part out of 3,4,5 and that shitty one(ive never played or intend on playing first two), i would have traded that boss rush for a completely new boss any day of the week. And yet, i still think having Dante backtrack Neros journey was not a good, but a great decidion. Both in terms of comparison, and in giving a player to enjoy completely decimating demons as Dante should at that point. Also, every new weapon cutscene is just - YES. Also, it shows the silent narration of Dante preparing a new hunter, stepping aside, and correcting his mistakes later. And i like how whey managed to create a game where you play for 2 different characters, and its not a Nero game, and not a Dantes game. Its equal. They both got space to shine, their story, and style, despite the fact they have very simmilar levels, it feels both new and familliar. Whey tried to do the same in the 5th, but it just didnt felt this way. For me, in terms of levels, 5th was a horrible failure. Well... Cant say it had ANYTHING wrong with it except for levels, but compared to ancient giant tover of Temmen-ni-gru, and journey throught the island and back, it just doesnt work. Most of the levels is either a city or ficked up city, or a demon lair. Was a strange bet after DMC, whitch took place in town mostly, and it didnt work for me. To hell, even that reboot has more interesting level design and style than 5th part. 5th was gorgeus in terms of look, but missed that feel to this beauty. Ah, i kinda digressed. Anyway, great vid, love DMC4, peace

DMC4 was my first DMC game. I basically played through it three times. 2009 when I had no idea what I was doing, 2014 when I wanted to learn what I was doing, and 2019 when I binged all five DMC games back to back (I regret forcing myself through 2). The conclusion I take away is that DMC4 is two half-games that are genuinely good, but do not mix well together. Nero's lower skill floor is great for newcomers, he may only have two weapons but they're easy to learn with plenty to master -- but then you get thrown into Dante's half of the game and it's like going straight from the swimming pool to the Pacific ocean, it's crazy and overwhelming. Meanwhile, DMC veterans are going to LOVE the upgraded Dante who has everything they already mastered and more with hundreds of hours of techniques to experiment with -- but in order to play any of it they have to get through Nero's half of the game first. Both halves of DMC4 are amazing games, they just don't compliment each other very well

17:19 is like... funnier when you realize that Agnus is canonically a misogynist according to Deadly Fortune. Crack made canon :P

Grew up on Devil May Cry, and it's been my absolute favorite series of all time. I actually have a replica Rebllion and Red Queen on my wall. I highly recommend you check out Onimusha! It was the only other series that came close to DMC, and they both share a similar background of their start. Love them both so much!

I like how you edit everything to be more dramatic with explosions and then the credits just literally have the pub blow up behind dante for no reason

DMC4 will always be my favorite game in the series, it was the first game I played after growing up watching my dad play the first 3, and the special edition made me love the game even more.
