So question, with option one i can have all my drum channels what has eq, compression etc going to my L/R, along with the channels going to a stereo subgroup with has the stock compression to get that pumping which is then going to the L/R as well? Since it doesn't add latency.

boss i so i could use pararel with lesire comp i just put it ona difrent clone channel inserted but with no compressing is that good???

You could also just use open channels if you have them, and set the source to whichever drum channel you want (kick, snare) and compress that channel

Sadly, that app is no longer supported and does not work on many recent Operating Systems. You can probably find links to it somewhere online but it likely won't work on your computer unless it's fairly old. Sorry :( - Chad

@@AWTechTuesday thank you for getting back to me! I watched the video and have seen an adjustment that I need to make to having the subs matrix to pick signal from the LR bus. I currently use a matrix for my sub out that receives its signal from the mono-Centre channel while also having a crossover point. I did this to have some sort of control over what I send to the subs.

I prefer sending all my drums to a subgroup, then using the stock channel compressor on that subgroup with the blend knob.

I'm streaming audio from my recording software into the mixer. So, I'm submixing the audio there and then sending it out a pair of outputs to channels on the mixer. -Chad

There are a few ways. My first thought would be to use a pair of matrices for you stream. On the X32, you can send mixes to matrices just like how you can send individual channels to a mix. An example of this would be you using 3 pairs of mixes and one pair of matrices: Drums compressed, drums uncompressed, and all of your other channels (and you can break those up more if you have enough busses to do so) all going into your livestream matrix. Hey Chad how ya been? So is this only an issue when doing parallel compression like this on an M/X32? Or is it also an issue when parallel processing vocals with FX the same way? Like when sending dry vocals through L&R main and parallel processing vocal signal through an FX bus simultaneously?

Hey man! Some mixers aren’t affected by this because they will compensate by adding delay where necessary. I’m pretty sure the Behringer Wing, for example, has delay compensation. If you run a parallel chain for your vocals that includes rack fx, yes, the same issues and solutions will apply. When you run 100% wet time-based fx like a reverb and delay send and return setup, this is not an issue since the signal will be delayed compared to the original by design. -Chad

So basically anytime you parallel process any source with a compressor, you need to be aware of if the mixing unit compensates for the latency between the clean and compressed parallel signals? Other time based effects aren’t a concern as they do this intentionally.

Generally, you’d want to use a subgroup for this purpose since it will follow your fader and panning automatically. -Chad

On the X32, all the busses on mono. To get stereo, you need to link 2 busses. Also, they need to start on an odd number. For example, you and link busses 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 but you cannot link busses 2 and 3. I hope that helps :) -Chad

@@stevenadams-o9k Thanks for watching! It depends on your system and if you want stereo spread for your drums or not. I’d always shoot for stereo if your system is in stereo and if you have enough busses to accommodate that. Me personally, as much as I like this trick, I usually reserve it for studio and broadcast applications and usually focus on individual processing for FOH so that my processing can benefit the monitors as well.

Hey Matt! You're correct and that's exactly the point haha :) The goal in this video is to squash the transients like crazy in the compressed group while keeping that transient information in the uncompressed group. That said, sometimes I will slow my attack a bit (depending on the compressor) to get that bus sounding a little more natural. These rules are definitely not written in stone and it's definitely worth playing around with the compression times for different results :) Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
