Its not surprising that Egosoft locked the Asgard off from the player until they have their own Shipyard (mid-late game). That main battery not only shreds every ship in the game, but also trivializes destroying space stations as well. The most fun I had was combing this with 2 Raptors. It made farming components from Xenon stress free :)

It would be too broken early on. When you have the finance and ability to build the Asgard you don't really need it haha. I use it only for fun some times.

@@resyelgaming Asgard and Syn armed with plasma have a range similar to the main cannon and do equal damage with them, demolishing everything around. They have two Flak Cannons to destroy fighters.

I'm guessing this is an older version, the Ks and Is are a bit more aggressive about getting into firing position in 7.10, and won't just hang around to get zeroed like this anymore.

I swapped out all but 1 of those L beams for Plasmas in the rear batteries, and Pulses in the forward batteries. Kept 1 L beam on the ventral fwd right battery, solely to bolster the weaker anti-fighter defense o my ventral side. She's much meaner to the droids now. Don't even need the beam.

When you are just someone looking at this fight, i must say it seems pretty boring. The enemy capital ships are not moving, just waiting one after another to get shot by the argards maingun. Well, as a player, when all your progress leads you to the super destroyer, dominating evereyone else, you get rewarded with some satisfaction. The AI having difficultys in proper use of capital ships explains why x-rebirth was locking the player to one ship, because once you have a fight similar to the one shown in the video, you notice the incompetence of the AI. The space fights in x3-Albion Prelude were much more entertaining. Much more turret fire to look at and there was the requirement to actualy dodge enemy supression fire of capital ships because it was often not possible to outrange your enemys. More excotic weapons in the past. Enemy missile fregates were deadly. The emotion fear seems to be missing in x4 Foundation fights. At least x4 Foundation is reworking the designe of capital ships. The first version of the Odysseus is a bathtube.

This fight looks like this because Asgard is out of range and all the ships shown are slow. The camera perspective distorts the image a lot. In a larger crowd the fights are dynamic. Besides, as I mentioned in another post, there is no reason to use the beam weapon, which is mounted on the Asgard npc just so that it does not cause too much damage, until the player grows up to fight Xenon. The player's Asgard should have range, and it is provided by the Paranid plasma weapon. To take down fighters, two medium flak cannons are enough.

I only started playing this game again after having put it down for several years, I'm loving all the changes that have been made along the way. What is that beam turret that sounds like a horn when it's firing? I don't think I've seen that yet. Unless it's a mod?

It's the beam turrent from the Terrans. I only use some minor visual mods, and nothing that make major changes. The weapons are original

yeah, and also the easiest starting area, since there are no wars or conflicts there. I started with the Terrans, and made over a billion before exiting the Terran space.

I believe I saw it once that they wiped out the xenon in Savage Spur II, and established themselves there. They also bought a lot of terran ships from my HQ, including multiple asgards and syns. Most of the time the AI is not enough to wipe them out

That was too easy, I had no doubt an Asgard could win, but none of the Xenon even reacted to their mates getting fried, would have been much more interesting if you had to avoid them at all. Great ship though, love the massive spinal gun.

They are reacting, but since I'm out of weapon reach and they are very slow to turn and accelerate, it looks like they are not reacting. If I was within reach of their weapons, then it would have been a different show

Too bad the AI can’t properly pilot the Asgard. I’ve tried using a fleet of these but the AI doesn’t know how to use the main guns and ends up getting all the Asgards blown up. It’s infuriating

That's very true, you have to ¨Babysit¨ them in order for them to not get blown up. AI is only effective when you're not in sector your self, then you can leave them be. So I have multiple of them patroling some dangerous sectors and I rarely have to intervene

I build it, started a mass production of Aasgards and Syns. I've sold about 20-30 Syns and 2-3 Aasgards to customers has well has making 3 Aasgards and 10+ Syns to my own fleet

I don't use the main cannon cause i like to give them an advantage. I can use battleships still but turrets only. Also, only m class can do whatever i want but s class can only dogfight

That sounds like a good challange! With a good turret setup with plasma and flak/beam (for fighters), the Asgard is still very effective

haha yeah, I sold many to other factions too xD not the enemies though, since I focus on being neutral to all factions to maximize trade and profits. You can set restriction to your factory so that enemy factions cannot buy from that factory. I did it for Split on my HQ, cos it became a warzone between Split and Agron in that sector xD

I nerfed it lol. Mod the beam to 10k range and up Xeon and other races plasma to also 10k range. Things are much more interesting in my universe. I did 3x hp and shield hp of all ships and make Argon teladi plasma double damage since their capital ships lack L turrets. Things are more balanced, because I always felt the xenon have a huge disadvantage of range they simply can’t fight back. I changed xenon m beam to slower flak to give fighters a chance near their stations.

Given how expensive it is to build Asgards (and how the Xenon pop out K's like a pez dispenser) I'd not take that mod... I have two sectors and a pretty strong economy but after a crapton of play time I still only have 3 Asgards. I've easily killed 200 k's and a dozen I's with them in that time... they definitely ARE OP... but they're also super-rare (I'm not sure even the Terrans have any in the field). Also the AI captains are too stupid to use the main guns so that knocks down their DPS on L's/XL's by over 95% if you're not personally in the drivers seat (kill time goes from 4 seconds to several minutes)

Ah yeah the Asgard. The ship who broke the entire game. . . hes fun to play, but as soon you have it, you can say gg and uninstale your game cause you'll do anything solo without support without even trying and for some people its makes the whole game boring. Its like activating a cheat code tbh

It's a late game ship, has you need to build it yourself. At that point you should have enough finance and fleet that you don't really need the Asgard. If I want to do missions or stories I usually use lesser ships so that it's more challenging
