Great guide for beginners. I would say that "Not looking" is vital for so many parts of the game. Your entire AI fleet, except for when they are in wing combat with you - only really work if you are not looking. Because it is all abstracted. If you look, they will bash into stations, ignore objectives and probably destroy themselves in some crazy way.

Bruh, I literally discovered it by accident because who the hell would not make shift a sprint button in first person mode - even if it's not binded, it's just a FPS urge to press shift to sprint. And obviously, like a true pro gamer you gonna strafe while holdign shift with A or D... and then you magically back at your ship, even tho you were sprinting towards that quest NPC and now you have to do it again. Extremely frustrating, but devs locked shift for binding and you can't even rebind it to be normal, but you discover that in your first minute after the game loads anyway and you would think its a bug for the next few hours.

Ok so I'm pretty late to the party on watching this video. I've been playing X4 for at least a few hundred hours or so, and I had NO IDEA about asking for directions to a system that I hadn't plotted. I have spent so.much.time. either scouring an online sector map to figure out where the gates to my destination system are, or manually scanning around sectors to find the gates. Tip 7 alone was worth watching this video. Thank you.

4:55 Holy shit. First I touched the game I was wondering "why can't I ask a passing ship for direction to my mission objective? I can ask useless stuff like where their rep is or the nearest equipment dock which I know is just a sector away"... yet I never actually tried. I guess it wasn't such a problem for me in the end, I used that as an opportunity to explore those areas I would frequent in the mission-running I'd do.

That's right, but only for AI controlled ships. The ships has full 360 collision detection when you are piloting. It's to keep the AI from getting stuck in stations and asteroids

I uninstalled my x4 because most guides I find on KZbin about this game is way too long and convoluted, I'm talking multiple episodes of basics. Now I get that this game is deep and do have a quite high learning curve and I do appreciate the content creators that strive to teach people about this game but it's just too damn long.... About the Super Highway: I don't like it and therefor have removed it through a mod. If you are a newbie, don't remove it yet. The game pace and especially the war between the factions changes significantly. Some factions get weaker and the overall economy of the "Highway-Factions" gets a big kick in the b'tt by removing it. But, if you feel comfortable with the game and its mechanics, remove it and enjoy the open space.

I've always been on the fence about it, with the deciding factor being that the AI was hard-programmed to assume it was there. Removing it meant that ships still flew the same routes that would get them somewhere fast with the superhighway, but added a bunch of jumps without it. I've yet to get a solid answer on whether this is still the case now that removing it is part of the custom start options.

For getting stuck inside buildings or asteroids, if you dont want your co-pilot to get out for you, just exit it the way you enter it, hard and fast

Great "Starter" video; However, some of what you've stated means haveing a very good grasp on the various menu's. I would love to have my pilot fly my ship sometimes, but in the slightly more than one hundred hours, I've not figured out how. And aquiring the PHQ from the first start is impossible to noobs such as my self because of not knowing how to do the things required at or near the end aka 4th step.

I actually have a full PHQ tutorial planned! I even put in a little teaser for it during the "keybindings" scene in the upper left 😁. The "stuck in an asteroid" scene shows how to switch between you and your copilot but I admittedly didn't show how to promote a crewman to a pilot so I will be sure to add that in to the PHQ tutorial. For your 4th step I'm assuming it's for getting the 3 antimatter and sacrificial ship? If that is the case the easiest way is to buy a cheap ship from a wharf (a pilot will come with it by default), then buy the three antimatter cells, and then fly it into the area highlighted by the yellow rings. The ship you are piloting will then be instructed to go about 7km away so to escape the explosion.

If u want a pilot. Go to an equipment dock and buy service crew. Press m for your map. Find your ship in the list on the left. Go to the ship menu and look for the crew screen. The captain will be listed at the top. If there isn't a captain an option will be there to promote someone. Now exit menu. Now while in your ship press enter and select get up. Your captain will sit in your seat. Stay on board (If docked) and press m. Find your ship on the left side and select with left click. You can now queue orders with right mouse button as any normal ship and u can now play the game as it's meant to be played, staring at a map being flown around.

Yes egosoft liek your money but cant be fucked giving you a game manual that is for the game, I spent 12hrs hammering the SHIFT + F key to activate long range scanning , could not find the actual key or sequence on any place bye egosoft( VERY FUCKING DISSAPOINTING), I HAD TO GO TO REDDIT to get the correct information, Pressing shift + f does nothing but give you a sore shoulder, Pressing first shift 3 - (long range scanning) , The press and hold the L key for around 2 seconds is the actual key bind. Its sick twisted bullshit like this that is very disappointing from egosoft. Its like buying a car but being refused the keys. Or going to the bank only to be told even though you have an account with us , You are the wrong colour.

completely different. In Elite Dangerous you are a singular pilot, while X4 is more about empire building. Although you can do a playthrough as a single pilot in X4, it has more sandbox options

8th tip: *NEVER* engage xenon in the Elite Vanguard unless you REALLY know what you're doing (and you've both installed a plasma cannon and know WHEN to shoot because the xenon patterns are in loop charge in - disengage - spiral loop - disengage - charge in - disengage and are THE SAME for every ship size so you have to hit them when they charge in while taking some LEI on your face or when they disengage). Elite were the elite back in X-BTF; now it should be called Argon Freakingnoob Vanguard. Seriously, the *ARGON DISCOVERER* that was an ex M5 now it's better then this shitty ex M3! Before the discoverer was the startign useless ship now *YOU WOULD CRY TEARS OF JOY* for starting with such awesome ship that, while still sucking hard, *AT LEAST HAVE 2 GUNS.* Seriously, that's totally not lore friendly but Egosoft turned into Weebosoft therefore they can't be lore friendly anymore.
