Just started playing this, originally only bought the basegame two days ago, and yesterday i already went and bought all the functional DLC (meaning no soundtracks, since i do love this game already. Kind of feels like a mix of elite dangerous, eve online just in singleplayer, and imo the best parts of each.

I played X3: Reunion and X3: Terran Conflict for a bit, but the changes did not quite work for me. Maybe I should give it a try again. Will see how it goes in your playthrough. Don't know why they could not just give the data leaks from an NPC in station now that you can walk in station.

For me the quest dead-ends at Boso Ta. His third sentence is "gotta go" and he signs off without telling me anything. I really want to like this game but I can't get anything going. Every tutorial I watch is broken in the game. Sucks.

Haven't played it since 4.X though, got too addicted to other games. X-Stillbirth sucked and is the primary reason I'll no longer pre-order video games. X3 and its expansions were great. Didn't play X2 or earlier, iirc they were linear games though not open sandboxes.

Glad to see you are an X fan too! Not sure about X1 but I didn't feel X2 was linear. You could do whatever you wanted and build a huge empire and take over the galaxy lol. It was similar to X3 (and in some ways better IMHO) but the graphics weren't as good.

Question to the author here or others: ive been playing eve for close to 20 years now i don't intend to abandon it but i am looking for an alternative in between either moving between corps or just killing time as skills develop (yes its still a thing at my eve age) You think ill be a good fit for this game? Or am i gonna be pissed i spent money on a game that isnt as good as eve? Im looking at it because of the single player aspect. I have high hopes but just want to check my expectations vs your educated opinions... Ill be watching this series regardless. Fly safe.

That's an interesting question. I have 800+ hours in Eve and it was, in fact, the first MMO I ever played. I haven't played Eve in many years though so I do not know what's new about it and will thus base my answer on how the game was about 12-15 years or so ago when last I played it. I am going to assume you have already taken into account the pros and cons of multiplayer vs single player so I'll just address the game mechanics. Essentially, there is very little that the two have in common in terms of gameplay. Eve is/was a mouse driven-point and click style of game whereas in X4, you actually fly the ship and can customize flight controls to some extent, adjusting for realism vs flight assistance. You can fly small agile fighters up to large capital vessels and command fighter wings and entire fleets (more on this later). Each race's ships offer different pros and cons making things interesting and fun to experiment with. You can also mod the ships within the game itself which is pretty involved but can create some powerful ships. The combat is fun and can be challenging, if not deadly, if you do not understand how the enemies fight and what the correct loadout and ship types are best for a given situation. Eve is/was very PvP focused and the game world is hugely impacted by it's players. In X4, you will eventually become God because you're ultimately dealing with AI that you can figure out and exploit over time. I don't know how Eve looks these days but X4 has nice graphics and a pretty large universe to explore though it isn't what I would call enormous for a space game and also limited to sectors separate by jump gates. You can fly beyond the populated section of the sector (assuming the sector is populated, some are not or very sparse), and can sometimes find hidden gems like derelict ships that you can take over (awesome in the early game). The economy in the game is fun and can be manipulated by the player for better or worse and the factory complex building is really good and very involved. The biggest downsides for me consist of two things essentially. First: you will eventually become powerful enough to overcome the main enemies in the game and can either eliminate them or at least force them into remote sectors and take their teeth out. Once you get to that point, you don't have much left to fight unless you decided to take on the AI factions which may or may not be significant depending upon how they've developed over time and how you played the political aspects of the game. Even with that, you will still get to a point where there's no one left to really threaten you and at that point, you would only keep playing it as an economy sim (which isn't a bad thing if that's what you're after). Second, and TBH, this was extremely frustrating to me and why I eventually quit playing, the AI when commanding a fleet is REALLY BAD!!! I mean I am talking throw your goddamn keyboard across the room and swear like a sailor bad, lol. Some hardcore fans of the game have tried to make excuses for the terrible AI but I don't buy it. It's just terrible and as far as I know, Egosoft has done nothing to fix it. They did come out with a recent major update to the game so perhaps they improved it but I have not bothered to check. That said, you can still utilize a fleet to some extent but you will really have to micromanage it and even then, be prepared to get frustrated. The other option is to make a shit-ton of money and mod the crap out of a really good base ship (such as the Destroyer class Split Rattlesnake, hint hint) and you can become a one-man wrecking crew. Whether or not that's a good thing for the overall design of the game is subjective however. Wow. That was a wall of text but hopefully it will help you decide whether or not to give x4 a try.

@TheBeardedOG thank you very much alot to consider appreciate the effort for info here. I am curious to check out a SP space game for sure to have quiet moments. Eve as many other games has changed over the years. The graphics are spectacular but they never fully engaged with the 1st person POV (which I am ok with). This means mouse and keyboard are well utilized. Eve has a free to play edition now you should check it out. Barring me asking now I haven't left Eve for any other game and likely won't but I do crave a bit of space exploration that perhaps comes with time- that I can take my time with.

Unless $ is really tight for you, I think you should try X4 but go into it with the proper expectations. TBH, I thought X2 and X3 (and it's DLCs) were better but they're pretty old. X Rebirth was terrible at launch and I could never get into it though I tried. The devs made too many fundamental changes to the game and not for the better and really bombed the release of it back in the day. I am talking overwhelming negative on Steam. X4 was a return to what made the X games great and it is a good game, with consideration to what I already stated. Best of luck to you!

You probably missed one camera option. F2 is the following option you mentioned not being available. The free look is F3 and te target view F4. About the missions, you can actually find the npc offering normal missions also by walking on the stations and speaking directly to them, but there is no guidance to find them that way. There is also a mission window accessible from the map window, offering another type of generic missions. And there are two types of leaks, data leaks and signal leaks, the ones providing missions, also illegal stuff, are signal leaks. Red pulsing thingies are data leaks that can provide temporary discounts and other benefits, and with the right research you can get the blueprints of these modules by scanning them. To buy all the modules you can get by hacking cost easily 100million. But i will not explain all that in too much detail and spoil the exploration. One little hint, there are some abandoned ships to find and claim. I will only say this, one is in the sector the first anomaly lead you, by following the trail of rocks you may find it. ;)

That is very unlikely to happen here, and the hidden gems are far off any beaten path. There are no ingame hints for that. Naturally, you'll never come across any of them. No mission or object of interest will lead you near to them. And my hint was not a direct position, i have seen people not finding this ship with much better and detailed descriptions. :D

This game is so frustrating. I need a tutorial just to do the tutorial! I am stuck on just learning how to do the base building tutorial. It says to find a builder ship but there are none. Also, how did you find out about this random station scan to begin the actual storyline? The tutorial in the game doesn’t mention this anywhere that I could see. Terrible game design

If those two things frustrate you (and they should) you might want to stop playing right now and go do something else as this game has more frustrating things in store. If you can put up with the frustration and enjoy the good parts of the game, then keep at it. As far as finding a builder, as I recall, you have to be in the builder screen and just wait for one to appear in the list. It may take some time and it also helps if you have explored more gates. As to the random station scan, just keep scanning for the radio static sound. It will be there. Just might take awhile to find it.

I spent a whole day scratching my head trying to do tutorials that are poorly explained and I couldn’t complete only to find out from your excellent video that I had to fly around the station to make the actual storyline trigger. So weird that the game doesn’t mention that at all. I just wondered how you knew to fly around the first station scanning to begin the story. That would never have occurred to me😂
