The Problem
he handbrake lever fails to release when pressing the button
It is a common fault on these vehicles for the handbrake release button to fail so that the handbrake lever cannot be released. The usual symptom of this is that the release button can be pushed but the lever does not release. This is due to a cable snapping within this handbrake lever mechanism.
A thin cable runs from the spring-loaded button to a ratchet on the mechanism to release the lever, this cable is too thin for the application and operates around a tight bend. Inevitably the cable wears in this location and snaps.
Until now the only solution was to replace the whole mechanism, this is very expensive and will ultimately have the same design cable.
We have seen other sellers offer a cable the exact same as the OEM part. The OEM part is fed in place then a special tool is used to create the stop end. These OEM copy cables are extremely difficult to fit as they have the stop end preinstalled so the cable cannot be fed. We’ve never successfully installed one.
Symptoms of the fault
Handbrake lever stuck and won’t release, release button presses but won’t free up lever, handbrake jammed upright.

Unlike the OEM copy cables which are near impossible to fit our part is designed to be easily fed in the lever mechanism, install once the lever is off the vehicle is very simple please check out our video instructions.

Our cable is a thicker wound stainless-steel cable. This feeds through the mechanism in to our precision CNC machined stop end part allowing the replacement cable to be easily installed restoring full function of the handbrake lever.

TOP TIP FOR ROUTING CABLE ! This can be done without removing the lever assembly as mentioned by others. I found it really easy to route in new cable by using the old cable to pull in the new one. Remove the Console top half as described, open the top of the lever as described. I then cut the top end off the old cable and joined the two together using a small shrink wrap sleeve, pulled the bottom of the old cable to pull the new one through. Worked a treat. Great part X8R. Saved me buying a new lever assembly from main dealer costing €250.

ok. just fitted mine today. seems fine. the BEST thing is that you do NOT need to remove the whole handbrake assembly from the car. you don't need to get underneath. remove all trim as per this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKC6hZqqoK6tjpI then you can fit this. top tip is to use a paperclip to grab the cable as it comes down the handle so that you can pull the cable out and then around the plastic wheel. make a hook with the paperclip, insert into the handle just above the plastic wheel. feed the cable down the handle until it comes out the bottom. hopefully you have caught the cable in your paperclip hook,...pull the paperclip out and bingo! if not, rinse and repeat. YOU WILL NEVER GET THE CABLE THROUGH THE CORRECT SIDE OTHERWISE (unless you take the whole assembly out). its a bit tight up against the lower plastic trim when you come to tighten the bolt through the hole, but just bend it....i managed to get a socket in between the trim and the bolt (make sure you have removed the plastic bush in the hole if its in there otherwise you will never get the bolt in!). make sure you test it before refitting trim. i had mine too tight at first and it prevented the handbrake from latching.

Well 1st time and I successfully fitted an original design one...just drilled the slot out a little and the stop end threaded through from the bottom...fiddly getting the bottom hook in but did it all in situ - happy days.

This is a great little cable easy to fit and can be done in situ albeit a little fiddly much happier buying this than the £200+ complete Ford handbrake mechanism.

Easy no way is it easy when it's in place I've been on it 2 hours and still cant do it its physically impossible to hold the nut and tighten the screw while it's all in place You must have hands and wrists like a new born baby

Easy repair but a lot of fiddly work to remove and re-fit the centre console. I did the job in my driveway without removing the assembly which made the job more fiddly especially when trying to get the new cable to follow the proper route. This shortcut worked for me but in a workshop with a hoist I think it would be easier to remove the whole assembly and do the repair at a bench. Well done X8R!

I'm Portuguese and I bought it for my Ford S Max and it turned out very well, it works on both English and car cars on the left because the dimensions are the same

@@SUPERPOT1958 I put it without a problem, it was a bit tight because I set up with the system in place only dismantled a bit until I got there, it was top, but now I bet this cable is the same length regardless of whether the car is left or right steering wheel , after mounting still have to cut the cable because there is more, but I will be honest when I ordered the cable was also afraid
