4:38 You can try this if you can't see the boresighter because of the height of optics. Fix the gun in the resting position, put the boresigher on and watch. It will show you where your barrel is pointing and then you just ajdust optics at that particular point. Cheers

That borescope brings back memories of borescoping the big 5" guns on the destroyer I served on. Difference being using the borescope to shoot stars in space and taking elevation and train readings off the electric motor servos and dialing that information into the firing solution computer to get a paralax correction solution from the bore to the radar emitter 100 feet away and 75 feet above the gun bore center. Usually was an all night exercise of taking motor readings and hoping you were aimed at the same star as the radar. SMH. We also had a one man control site inside the gunmount and the servo's and synchro's would be adjusted to it by using the same method at the same star. That paralax correction was only a matter of a few feet and inches to get a good zero and calibrate the elevation and train solution before setting the director solution. This had to be completed whenever any work was performed on the electric motors of the gun mount or director that may have corrupted the firing solution.

FWIW, Wheeler sent me their laser bore sighter to review, it's the only one I use now. Mainly because it shows you an additional important factor, if your crown is square to the bore. And I have actually found 2 factory guns that had a canted crown, and I sent them back to be replaced. Cartridge lasers unless they are made very well, or you do a lot of work with a dremel, will often get pushed by the extractor.
@Moondog2A Жыл бұрын
That's a good point about the extractor. The only downside to a magnetic laser bore sighter is for folks with oddly shaped compensators.
@m4rvinmartian Жыл бұрын
@@Moondog2A It's a considerable magnet on there. I've considered if barrel end devices would ever have a need to not be square to bore. If they're square, it won't be much of an issue. But even with 'breeching nubs or spikes', that magnet is pretty ok, as long as it's not stainless steel.

Hi, nice video thanks for sharing. Why do you think you landed bottom left if when you started it was spot on where you used to shoot before you scrambled the turrets i would have thought it should be spot on? Or you where mot zerod at 100 yards? Does this affect parallax?

Tolerances probably play a role (the barrel rod/mandril is slightly smaller than the barrel, held in place with a brass spring). Hope you subscribe.
@jammer1mo9 ай бұрын
If you was to shot that at 50 yards or 25 yd it would probably be in all right you got to remember 22 drops probably at least 3 to 6 inches depending on what you're shooting at 100 yds.

It should still be well within that grid pattern and target. The more important thing is whether the scope is aligned left/right.

DOES THIS WORK FOR RED-DOT SIGHTS, OR JUST SCOPES?

With red dots, you may or may not be able to see the grid clearly. But it could work with red dots with magnifiers or prism scopes?

How to you use this to sight in a red dot?
@Moondog2A9 ай бұрын
This may not work with non-magnified optics. The grid will look too small to see easily. I suppose you could align it to the center of the shape? I'd recommend using a laser bore sighter for a red dot kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJSXlJRsfpt9bJo

I don’t like the idea of jamming a shaft up the barrel , that goes against every service principle it’s very likely it could damage the crown or rifling , a magnet type would be safer, just saying.

Everybody use brass jigs and brushes to clean their bore? Brass and aluminum are way softer than barrel steel so don't worry.

Try the center first and then note adjustments because the "center" is different for different calibers and different barrel lengths.

I got better results doing it the old fashion way of looking down the bore. This set up is only useful for barrels where you cannot look down the bore. Wouldn't waste my money on something like this that only gets you close.
@Moondog2A Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I hear you. I think this is why you don't see this type of bore sighter sold much anymore. Maybe if you have a 10/22 and can only shoot at a 100yrd range.

All due respect, the device did work as designed: to get you on paper at 100yrds. But you want one that zeros at 200yrds. And your actual zero is also dependent on your caliber and cartridge so this is not a "universal" zero.

Let me give you a scenario: You have a lever action rifle. Your target stands at the range for rifles is only available at 100yrds. You still think you can get on paper by eye and more importantly, do you think your average shooter can?
