My comment had more to do with how TV has changed. Silly sitcoms vs tackling real social issues
@trevorbarnhill3399
@trevorbarnhill3399 Жыл бұрын
I couldn't either. However, there have been a couple of sitcoms that dealt with someone overdosing on pills. There was a two part episode of One Day At A Time called Barbara's Friend in the late 70s when a social misfit tries to befriend Barbara, but her antics only drive Barbara away. So, due to being depressed over feeling rejected, she takes almost a whole bottle of pills in an attempt to kill herself. Luckily, she pulled through at the end. But it has been done in sitcoms before.

@@sugarplumfairy420 I can guarantee you, there weren't many child actors like Quinn Cummings back then, today they're all over the place but. back then, she was pretety unique-she was so verbal & articulate. She was coming off the hit "The Goodbye Girl". I HIGHLY highly recommend the film if you haven't seen it. Especially in these covid days when we're still inside more (altho I think it's coming to an end soon! yippee!). It stars Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason-it's really cute, funny and sweet. I still wonder about that. Not with this show, but through the 90s, tv shows would bring on new characters with actors that played on the show before as someone else. I think the worst was on Matlock when Matlock defended a lady he had a crush on for murder, then maybe a year later that same actress was brought back permanently as his daughter. Creepy!

Black viewer here. My Mom watched in its heyday, & I watched in syndication during the 80s/early 90s. That's just how it was back then, except for sitcoms & recurring characters (e.g. Lynn Hamilton as Verdie on The Waltons, et al.). There were rare exceptions like Gail Fisher in Mannix & a few others. Still, it's one of my favorite shows of all time. 👍🏽💯😊

There is one episode that features black guest stars called "Little Brother." That's the only one really, but it's a great episode.
