I LOVED my Thrasher! Unfortunately I didnt sign with Randall till 2013, and as we all know a few years later US Music got sold off to some Asian conglomerate and everyone awesome at Randall was done. Mike, Jason, Jocke, Matt, and everyone else there were so awesome to me the for the time I was there. It was such a GREAT group of guys! It was also awesome to trade licks with guys like Ola, Per, and Matt. Great time indeed!!

I love the stuff that Mike Fortin designed for Randall. The Randall 667 take on his 6 channel Meathead amp can get virtually any rock/metal tone you are looking for and is unbelievable!!

Based on the title I was thinking this was another video of you bashing on Fortin and Randall. Much to my surprise you and I agree in this case. I have owned my Thrasher 120 since 2015. I have owned and tried the Thrasher 50, RD-45 Diavlo, and the Sigil. And to me none of them are close to the 120. I have had some minor tube socket issues that I solved but I hope I am never without the Thrasher 120. A great amp for sure \m/ you were spot on this one good job.
@w192311 күн бұрын
Mine took a shit…thinking it’s a tube socket issue cause it’s not the tubes. Did you take it in for service or repair yourself
@jameskelly926911 күн бұрын
@@w1923 I called around alot and I ended up cleaning the tube sockets thoroughly with CRC and that fixed the issue. Its been a few years since and no issues. I don't play the Thrasher as much these days as I am into Synergy amps more but this video inspired me and I am playing my Thrasher as I type and its flawless surgical metal \m/

What is the difference in sound between the 50W and the 120W?
@jameskelly926911 күн бұрын
@@LouCondon-j1vless congested more headroom. Also both heads are heavy to carry. I bought the 50 to see if it was a lighter option. I found it to be almost as heavy to carry and for whatever reason I liked my 120 way more tone wise
@yousocrazy119910 күн бұрын
i got the 50, swapped the tube to a Sovtek 6l6 smaller bottle, the amp sounded better than ever. no more spikey sound, the metal scraping sound was gone. and i love it.
@yousocrazy119910 күн бұрын
i use Precision drive or a Jeff loomis essentials pedal. sound great. dial depth to 4pm, presence pass 12ocl, gain 2-3 ocl. not bad to ears.

Legit impressed with the tones you were able to get out of that amp. My roommate had one of these back when they were first released and we were both so massively letdown by it. For context, he had an actual Fortin NATAS and the thrasher was kind of implied to be an affordable NATAS in some of the pre release hype content and some of the marketing. Roommate and I both went in expecting it to be at least in the ballpark of the NATAS and it wasn’t even close. It just seemed really flat, lifeless, and nowhere close to being as tight as we expected. If we hadn’t had a NATAS to compare the Thrasher to we probably would’ve had really different options and would have tried a lot more experimenting with overdrives. Also kinda recently I’d seen a few guys that tried the thrasher at Namm mention that the Namm demo head did sound more like the NATAS but the cramp released to the public sounded way different than they expected as well. Seeing this video does make me want to try one again but since the used prices on the Thrasher and Satan have gotten kind of ridiculous I doubt that will happen.

Same experience with a friend. He got one and we both found it really underwhelming. Now, we never tried it with any boosts because that just wasn't a thing either of us really knew to do back then (he was used to the Peavey 5150 and the XXX which didn't really need one and I played bass so I was in my own little world). He ended up selling it off pretty quickly.

I just got a Blackstar HT 50 MKii used for my birthday from my son, it came with the factory big pedal which I'm glad it did because it has a built in boost which kicks the amp up a few notches and sounds even better. You wouldn't know it exists if you don't have the stock pedal because if I'm not mistaken it's only achievable with the stock pedal.

I think you did a great job on this review. That thrasher sounds pretty good, and you really know how to dial in a decent tone pretty quickly.
@tj148611 күн бұрын
Crazy you dropped this today. I just got a Diavlo 100 today. Love it. It's a bit darker than I prefer and hence why i came looking up thrasher's tonight lol. To me the Diavlo reminds me a lot of my Splawn Nitro but not quite as quacky and aggressive when boosted (though still plenty aggressive) and I'm wondering if that's kind of the Fortin thing; I gotta say It's a great tone and definitely one of my favorites of all the some 20-30 amps I've owned. Also i don't think I've found an amp that sounds better with a 7 string than the Diavlo. It's like it was made for those and won out over my uberschall on tone for that. I'm definitely gonna be keeping my eye out for this or a satan but I don't think the Diavlo is on it's way out the door just yet.. I've heard the satan at least gets pretty bright but I'm hoping the thrasher might be what the dr ordered for me.

Pretty sure the low and high gain (girth and grind) are just a Baxandall style low and high shelf EQ in front of the gain stages.
@B-Dubba-U11 күн бұрын
In my experience with them I’d say sort of. They definitely don’t have quite the same effect as sticking something like an integrated preamp out front which is an actual baxandall eq. They also didn’t work as well as the girth and grind controls on the NATAS head that this was sort of implied to be a copy of.

I thought it sounded really good no matter where you set the controls, that's certainly a good thing. Kyle from the future here... at some point you won't be able to jump as high, and at some point you won't be able to do the right hand stuff you do today in the same way. So future Kyle says to young Kyle, just enjoy the ride, and find some peace and happiness in all you can do today.

Having owned the satan I was always curious if the thrasher was better since the satan was best described as jangly. The satan was alright as a pedal amp but the presence just made it fizzy and the depth made it flubby so I ended up getting rid of it. I have a fryette ultra lead too and it is much, much, better if you want a "dry" sounding amp. Ola's demos at least were accurate to how it sounded so it wasn't misleading.
