@adrs2 Жыл бұрын
@@MrBurnzz.maybe worth it. Chinese manufacturer underspeced the transformer by giving bad isolation, also poor capacitors leakage and drying out causes overheating of PT and degradation of isolation = story circuit. If You want to keep it You must recap it - PSU board is minimum.

What's up with Egnater these days? The website hasn't been updated in years and nothing on social. I love my Egnater amp but wasn't sure what was up with the company.
@adrs2 Жыл бұрын
@@RMPalm2000 Egnater was bought from Bruce by Avi El-Kiss. I think that bad fame of PT problems killed the brand in the end. Chinese manufacturer placed underspeced power transformers (most expensive part) in many amps like Renegade and it starter the problems, because repairs with PCB board and the cost of new PTs were more expensive than the amps.

This is my favourite all time amp. I feel like it pairs the best with g12m65 speakers or v30's. For distortion it also likes pickups like gibson dirty fingers or emg 85 or similar high output humbuckers. The amp sounds the best when you leave the Treble close to 1 o clock and use the Presence to dial in the airyness. The Mids for your liking. The Bass almost always needs to be above noon or else it has no balls to the tone itself. For the cab response you dial in the Density, and for a small room at reasonable volume with a 1x12 I just max it out for the heavy stuff. It restores bass after the gain stages so you can think of it as one of the sliders on a Mesa Boogie Mark amp, so it's still tight but has more punch. If you run an OD for metal, you have to match it with the DEEP/TIGHT toggle since this is before gain stages. Most boosts will be perfect on tight but in some instances it can be too tight and give it that effect where it can be too boosted. The BRIGHT switch should almost always be on it's just a nice treble boost and adds some gain too but as you said for bright guitars it's a good feature. Last thing is the Gain knob is a bit weird, it is linear until about 1 o clock, where the level and distortion increases greatly. Then after 3 o clock the distortion is the same but the saturation greatly increases and it becomes a bit more flubby. Volume knob has a quirk where after 1 o clock it starts to saturate. You can hear this more clearly on the clean channel where it gets much louder and slightly overdriven. Anyways great review and glad you liked it, it's very versatile and my favourite from my collection. You can get everything from Crowbar to RHCP, like it can do anything. You pretty much set it up just like I would!

I’ve had this amp for maybe a year now and the power transformer blew out on me, so you think it would be worth fixing and if so where to find the part, it started cutting out on me randomly, and the volume would drop, then it started fully powering off In the middle of playing. Recently it powered off and won’t come back on

I had the 1x12 combo and I loved it. But living in an apartment setting it was hard to get it cooking, let alone use it with a 4x12 so I had to sell it. But it is a super underrated amp. A great Fender clean and a great modded Marshall drive in one package. The 6L6 and EL34 fusion gave it so many options and was fantastic to get some variety out of it, though I mostly ran it full El34 on both channels. I would certainly buy it again if I had the space to drive it and it's sad you don't see many more of these out in the wild. Bruce Egnater is the father of cascading gain and his name should definitely be up there with Soldano, Friedman and other well known manufacturers.

Been very interested in picking one of these up, but many of them are sold completely dead because they seem to have a common problem with the output transformer. They sound really damn good tho. Might be worth it to get a cheap dead one and pay for someone to install a new output transfomer. The problem for me is that there are very few amp techs in northern Sweden, and the ones who are located within a 300-400km radius are pretty damn expensive. Not to mention how damn expensive it is to transport something this heavy and fragile.

@@loganfosbrink8692 Bummer! Did you get it replaced with a completely different type of trafo (brand/model), or was it the same kind that it came with originally? @@nj1255 I took it took the local repair shop (which is over an hour away from me), and they were able to replaced it with a stock Egnator transformer. The last time it broke I took a look myself and I had several wires burnt up. I figured amp just wasn’t worth fixing anymore. Eventually I just moved on from the amp and got a couple different heads. I got a PRS MT15 for when I really want that tube sound and a boss katana artist 100 head for everything else because I just don’t have to worry about any of the headaches that come with tubes. To be fair to egnator, I bought the amp used and it was missing the back plate, so who know what was done before I every got the amp.

@kasakka Жыл бұрын
So as a bit of history, these were designed by Bruce Egnater as a more mainstream lineup to his amps, I think they released around 2008. The release got soured by a bad batch of transformers that has since been solved. I believe Bruce is no longer in any way involved with the Egnater brand so these are still made by the company in China that originally built them. I had the Egnater Tourmaster 4100 head and it was way ahead for its time in its features. It had basically 2+2 nearly identical channel which is massively more practical than the clean-crunch-rhythm-lead setup of most 4 channel amps. It had very flexible power scaling with nice and gradual master volumes. On these smaller models the tube blending feature is IMO not that useful. I think they are nice amps if you want something more like a classic to hard rock Marshallish amp with a unique feature set.
