I remember those claims made by some insiders saying Nintendo talked with Disney about adding Sora to Smash Ultimate but that Disney's demands were too high and they abandoned the idea and we know how it turned out. 0% chance e-day releases in 2025. TC made the switch to focus on UE5 back in mid-2021, which means pre-production for e-day probably didn't start until a bit after that because of all the proof-of-concept projects they were working on in UE5 (The Cavern, Matrix demo). They've already stated that the game is being rebuilt from the ground up in UE5, so I don't think less than 3 and a half years is enough time. Not to mention if it were 2025, they would have just said that during the reveal like 99% of the other games releasing in '25

@ no, he and MVG have been consistent in their opinion of them. They upset a lot of people a few months back when they inferred them to be bad games. Nate later clarified that he’d rather not bother with them as “they are essentially bad fanfic” to which MVG agreed. And I enjoy these games but they are not perfect nor are they the “remakes” that Square rather deceptively claimed them to be (later gaslighting us by saying they are using a different definition of RE-MAKE). I totally get where Nate is coming from, even if I like them. And of course in this episode he mentioned them after teasing something even worse than Foamstars. I just chuckle any time Nate had disdain for a game. I loved his Everybody’s 1,2 Switch jokes 😂

I mean, I know people love to claim that Nintendo gamers don't tend to play third-party games, but the amount of games not made by Nintendo kind of show that that isn't true and the Switch has received a lot of first-person shooters like Doom, Wolfenstein, Crysis and Nintendo's own Metroid Prime, so I think there's potential for Halo to be successful on a Nintendo system, especially if both Nintendo and Microsoft market the game well.

I'll be curious to see how they get Flight Simulator running on what's effectively a handheld PS4. As for Hi-Fi Rush, I recall rumors that Tango moved work to Switch 2 after they couldn't get the game running well on Switch 1 (Nate being among the people who mentioned this). I'm curious on if said port was finished before the death & resurrection of Tango Gameworks, or if they picked up where they left off if the latter case was what happened. Otherwise, I'm mostly looking forward to South of Midnight in terms of Microsoft's 2025 so far......once I build my PC rig. Gotta pick up Indiana Jones for said PC, too.

Possibly. Starfield probably was a real kick in the you know what. I don't see them really having a game that would make a difference. Starfield was supposed to be that game. Their best chance was Call of Duty not being on Playstation (which didn't happen) or if Bethesda made the next Elder Scrolls game instead of Starfield, then maybe the whole story would be different (assuming it was great). The real game people care about for the foreseeable future is GTA, and people mostly are going to buy that on Playstation.

@Ray-dl5mp I think the reason MS execs intervened was because the $70 billion Activision buyout went through & they wanted to recoup that money. Shortly after they won the FTC case, their plans suddenly started changing at the beginning of 2024. I'm not sure Starfield was a real issue financially, as it sold extremely well for only being on Xbox Series & PC and was one of the best selling games of the year (even more so than BG3). Just checked Steam players now, and despite coming out longer ago, it's still got more active players than more recently released Sony games like Horizon FW & Ghosts of Tsushima. For a strictly single player game, that's pretty good. It also reviewed pretty well, despite the console wars stuff surrounding the game, though fan reviews have been much more mixed. .

@@HKgaming86 yes I enjoy the game. I’m just going based on sales expectations I’m guessing. It didn’t blow the world away which I’m sure they were hoping it did. Perhaps it did sell well but it didn’t lead to people buying Xbox’s in droves. Would have been nice, just didn’t happen. Then they came out and said either right before or after that you can’t change the console user base since they lost the important generation (ps4). So then I think they went into give up mode since they are getting killed on console sales. But they have pivoted nicely into a streaming and publishing business. I think they made the right move overall. I still think it would have been interesting if more people bought Xbox’s if they had a great elder scrolls game. Skyrim was a landmark gaming moment.

@@HughQuinn12 to be fair, the fan rule regarding that a third-party character had to had at least one appearence on a Nintendo console has never been broken and in fact, all third-party characters had at least one apperance on Nintendo console before being added to Smash: - Solid Snake = the original Metal Gear Solid had a rough port on the NES, which got an original sequel done without Kojima's involment, Snake's Revenge and there was also Megal Gear: Ghost Babel on the Game Boy Color and Twin Snakes on the GameCube; - Sonic = ever since SEGA became a third-party publisher almost all of his games appeared on Nintendo consoles and it seems SEGA considers Nintendo the most important platform for Sonic games; - Mega Man = I don't think he needs any explanation; - Pac-Man = same as Mega Man, and the fact that Pac-Man is Miyamoto's favorite video game character; - Ryu & Ken = Street Fighter II was the best-selling third-party game on the Super NES and other SF games were released on the Game Boy line of consoles and also the Wii Virtual Console; - Cloud & Sefirot = I know Cloud's inclusion was the most "controversial" but he had an appearance on Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the GBA back in 2004 and technically the FF series as a whole debuted on the Famicom/NES; - Bayonetta = ever since Nintndo funded Bayonetta 2 she's practically an honorary Nintendo character; - Simon & Richter = Simon's first apperance was on the NES and Richter's origin game was somewhat ported to the Super NES; - Joker = kind of similar to Cloud, but Joker did have an apperance in Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth on the 3DS one year before his debut in Smash Ultimate; - Hero = Dragon Quest III, IV and XI were released on Nintendo hardware first, and I'm counting XI's 3DS version. 4K Xbox games on Switch 2! Suck it Digital Foundry noobs that thought 4K games on Switch are impossible because of a test of Death Stranding on a PC with a 2050 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 People need to stop seeing DF as authority, they know their tech, but espeically Rich lacks understanding of how software development and console development work. You can't compare DLSS on PC to Switch 2, it's a closed platform, it will be significantly more optmised, we will see a lot of 4K upscaled games, I will not be surprised if most Nintendo first party games run at 4KSR.

Not to stamp on your parade but Rick often references that Switch is a closed platform and there will be significant ports of these types. He just says they aren’t going to be 60fps and on par with the bigger system counter parts. But let’s face it we are at the point where that doesn’t really matter, can’t wait for switch 2 👍🏼
