You will notice that I frequently lose all my lives and get repeated Game Overs. I left all that as it is because it was deliberately designed to get the player to adapt and evolve by racking up points to get the options needed, hence the Darwin theme. What ship might work for one level might not work for another level, and you can't just change your ship on the fly.
Also after repeated frustrations I finally adjusted the Lives settings to 7 (again, the Darwin theme) near the end of the game, and that helped tremendously!

One of the coolest things about this game I found was the music stage mode, where you take a song that's installed to your console's hard drive and the game generates a stage with it.

I’ve played the iOS mobile demo when I was a kid, and at the time I was unaware of a 3D section of the game only for console. Its pretty sad to say you cannot play this on modern-day mobile since 32 bit is slowly being phased out. I’m further disappointed TAITO did not include this masterpiece in the 2020 collection.

Space Invaders was originally made by Taito for gaming arcades. While a version of it _was_ released on Atari consoles, it's _not_ an Atari IP.
