4 red rings=AV cable error. If the AV cable isn't plugged in that will happen. (This will not apply to an Xbox 360 that has an HDMI port) 3 red rings=General hardware failure 2 red rings=Overheated console (Let it cool down and play again if you want to) 1 red ring/E74=Hardware failiure.

Opening that up in 2005 for Christmas was awesome. It was a hard cardboard box with heavy Xbox 360 inside, like gold. $500 wifi+xbox w/20GB broke in the first year. Got a 2yr warranty and went through 2 after that. Then my third was a Xbox 360 S. Only payed $50 after selling my broken one on eBay. Just goes to show you, not everything heavy is of the highest quality, well it was... but they just broke. So... $400 XB, $100 WiFi, $50 Warranty, $50 new XB. $600 DAMN!

This video is from late 2005, notice the grills of those PRO systems. The colour of em is grey with polished effect. Those grills were made and set on launch systems (20gb PRO, core systems had the plastic gray classic grills). Then after some time they started to make classic grills (pure grey) that were installed from 2006 to the lastest fat (JASPER) for both edition. Also HDD and controllers had this polish finish, but was only for 2005 systems, from 2006 they changed and used the grey colour of the CORE edition (maybe to save money)

The vents from 2005 through early 2006 were a dark metallic grey in a satin finish. It's actually painted plastic and as you can imagine, much more difficult to produce, so they changed it over to solid grey that's just injection molded plastic rather than painted. I have three consoles that use these metallic vents.

I miss my OG Xbox 360 from 2005. You just had to be there. It was truly next gen. After mine red ringed I got the S model around 2010 and its still working as of 2022. My OG white one died after about 2 and half years 😢

Every xbox will be tested in the factory to make sure its in perfect working order before been dispached. This will be exactly the same for ANY electrical item, from your mobile phone/laptop/pc/tv/dvd/blu-ray/microwave/washer/cooker/gas boiler and so on and so forth. I used to work in food manufacturing, and every batch of food has samples taken to be tested for bacterial levels, to test consistency and for taste tests also. These things need to be done to make sure everything is correct.

By the way, those red rings on the console is not because of RRoD, it's because there's no AV cable inserted in them. RRoD only uses up to 3 rings.

Really, the summers are hot in the factory and sometimes workers just have to steal the radiators to cool themselves. Of course this causes certain problems for example overheating but workers keep happy.

@W00tW00tful Actually, ps3 breaks more often. Disk drive breaks A LOT. The board and drive are separated. They didnt give drive good ventilation which causes it to get hot and break. So the whole console is considered broke. xbox's parts are all together in the case. It has ok ventilation, but terrible layout. The layout causes the overheating, which melts solder n causes communication error,resulting in rrod. That is breaking too, i suppose. rrod & yellow = 95% of it is motherboard overheat
