Xbox 360: USB SDD vs USB HDD performance comparison

thank you for this. I had a debate with a friend as to why external ssd's are better for the 360. his claim was the 360 data transfer speed was capped because it uses sata 2, not sata 3. so his thoughts were ssds didn't matter because the 360 cant take full advantage of the faster speeds. While he was right that the speed limit exists, the ssd performs at the max speed 100% of the time. While a hard drive, with a slow spinning platter, doesn't quite reach max speeds. and lets be honest, it's common sense that an ssd made in 2024 will outperform an hdd manufactured 20 years ago. I use a 512gb external ssd for my 360 and it's a noticeable difference in speed. great work, this video confirms what many of us have been saying for years.

Glad the video was useful! While it is true that the Xbox 360's USB 2 ports cap the data transfer speeds, an SSD's seek time is better than a hard drive's, which still allows it to outperform.

I’ve also appreciated how external drives allow for the internal drive to run the operating system without having to split resources on the same drive, console feels smoother

XBOX360 → USB2.0 → SATA SSD XBOX360 → USB2.0 → SATA HDD [USB2.0!] The biggest bottleneck

Ja usb 2.0 ist der Flaschenhals aber eine SSD ist trotzdem besser. Sie ist kleiner und nicht so stoßanfällig wie eine HDD.

I tried this with Skyrim on my 2014 360, & Skyrim loaded in 45 seconds.. on my HDD.. I'm level 226, & have DLC...

any idea if a SSD in the hardrive bay of the console would make much of a difrance ???

It would be faster than a USB SSD but would require the Xbox 360 to be modified.

Esse tipo de comparação não é o melhor cenário! O ideal seria instalar o ssd na entrada do HDD do xbox 360 para se beneficiar das velocidades da conexão sata, utilizando a conexão usb, você está limitando a velocidade do ssd à velocidade do usb, então para um ótimo desempenho o ideal seria utilizar a porta do HDD.
