Why even are people comparing MS/Activision deal to Nvidia/ARM? Virtually every RISC cheap on the planet is developed using ARM patents and ARM IS. @crimsonsnow72283 жыл бұрын
Well, laws are not preemptive. You cannot deny a burglar his freedom from prison, just because he might steal again. Yes there are some exceptions in criminal law, but in the end we punish people for what they have done, not what they can do. The same for business law. You cannot prevent a company from growing because they have a lot of a money and can do bad things with it. Until they are doing the "bad" thing, they are not doing anything wrong and technically cannot be punished for it. At least that is the argument.

@NsanityGamez3 жыл бұрын
@@DarthAscension i think you meant trillion dollar corporation. In addition when looking at issues the FTC/ DOJ focus on markets and not how big the parent company is in other industries. Unless it maybe relevant to the market they are investigating. If they focus on the gaming market it will go through because the gaming industry is to big and no one is close to having a monopoly. If they narrow the scope down to video game streaming services that market size gets smaller and that may be a cause of concern. So no the total value of a company is not the focus or main focus on whether or not the deal is a cause of concern. They also have to risk taking it to court if they do want to step in and block a deal going through. So even if the FTC wants to block it because Microsoft, the courts themselves may not see it that way and allow the deal to go through.

I have to disagree with Destin here. He says Sony's purchase of Bungie is one of the smartest things they ever did? No, that would be purchasing Insomniac for 229 million dollars. They paid 3.6 billion for one developer, one IP, no exclusives, and some trade secrets for live service games. Now I'm not saying this is a bad deal, but even Hoeg thinks its a risky deal. We will see in five years, but I wonder if this deal was in the negotiation stages and was finalized after the news on BAK broke. The concessions Sony made here seem pretty insane. In 2023 we only have around 30/35 million PS5’s sold. Maybe the half or less of all PS5 players buy the new CoD, that would come at around 15 million sales. If MS can lose the Starfield/Elder Scrolls 6 sales they could also lose 15 million PS5 sales for CoD and just make it exclusive.

Microsoft plans to keep making some of Activision’s games for PlayStation consoles but will also keep some content exclusive to Xbox, said a person familiar with the company’s thinking

Sorry; Warframe is way more popular and profitable than Destiny. Also, how have you not figured out why Sony agreed to Bungie's terms? 1. Sony was looking to get back into the news cycle. 2.They only bought 1 developer with 1 game series. They'd be losing half or more profit if they made Bungie exclusive from microtransactional loss and would also lose as much current player count, which matters in online games. If Destiny were a single player game, Sony _would_ have demanded it be exclusive as part of the deal, or they would have passed.

I would disagree. I would argue that Sony buying Bungie has nothing to do with their games and has nothing to do with Microsoft. It's just very coincidental that these acquisitions are happening at the same time. Let's put things into perspective. On Bungie's side, they've stated repeatedly their desire to expand the Destiny IP (and their other unannounced IP) outside of the games and into movies, shows and such. Hmm, Sony is very good at making movies, shows and such. On the other side, Sony is a big player in that sort of content space. But here's the rub: they're pretty much the only big player without a mainstream streaming service of their own (not counting Crunchyroll and Funimation). All of their main competitors do (Disney, Warner Bros, NBCUniversal, Viacom). You bet your ass they're cooking something up to answer for that. They need content for that service. Bungie wants to make that sort of content. In this context, this acquisition makes complete sense. Playstation didn't acquire Bungie. SONY did

@@343Epsilon You're right, we do disagree. First off, you are giving an opinion for why _Bungie_ Sold themselves to Sony. None of what you're saying is in rebuttal to my post because you're talking about something totally different. My opinion was why _SONY_ accepted Bungie's terms of autonomy. I never even mention PS directly, only Sony. Your point would only make sense as a separate post. You can't refute a viewpoint by changing the subject matter. 2nd: Sony movies suck. Their only big deal is Spider-Man and the only reason that's been better than past iterations is because all of the recent entries have been in collaboration directly with Marvel Studios. Before that, Spider-Man movies made money solely on name recognition only, so if Sony is "cooking up" a potential streaming service in an already saturated market, you can bet your ass it will fail because no Destiny anime or live action series is going to keep it afloat and they're horrible at what they're already doing. (I still find it highly disrespectful that they cast 2 Brits for the role of Iconic American Super/Anti-Heroes and that goes for all examples of this as well as gender and race reversals, but I digress) 3rd: The fact that Sony would agree to a deal that gives them no final say in Bungie's decisions or creative process, makes this deal more akin to a partnership _and a buyout on paper alone_. That right there is enough to read into this as a major publicity stunt. Even if you believe Sony's claim that they are seeking to build online games in the future with Bungie's expertise; that would be a massively uninformed decision on their part and their own player base would prove them wrong. PS gamers prefer single player narratives over co-op. My opinion has always been that PS gamers are largely anti-social (of which I am personally, but able to overcome when gaming, due to anonymity and only having to engage within the confines of a game). You could have 200 ppl on your PS friends list and rarely see anyone that's playing an online game in party chat at any given time. It's like pulling teeth trying to get ppl to join a party and communicate when needed in an online game on PS and the exact opposite on PC or Xbox _so_ Sony is either lying to us, themselves or both with that excuse. PS still hasn't come up with a comparable answer to Xbox's LOOKING FOR GROUP feature 2 gens later, so I won't hold my breath that they can succeed in the online market.
