I wouldn't recommend it. I tried it after an install, and now I'm having a problem with the left stick. Once the controller is turned off, the inputs will reverse on the X or Y axis. Then when I calibrate it, it will work fine until I turn the controller off. I'm thinking ill have to do a fresh board install with new sticks. I have a feeling the board software got corrupted somehow.

@@fortypersec I have tried that already, including installing a brand new stick. It's always the left one because that was the only one I tried the recalibration on. I'm willing to bet if I tried the right one, it would start doing the same.

So far it only seems to work for the standard system controllers, not the elite series as I have this option for my regular console controller but the elite does not have this option in the accessories menu. If I’m missing something please correct me but I’m pretty sure this particular tool doesn’t exist for the elite controllers as yet…aside from the generalized testing tools that are already available for the Elite controllers in their menus.

Yeah that's the info I was looking for in the comments. Been waiting to recalibrate my drifting Elite 2 controller but I don't see the option to launch the calibration tool either (which is a shame cause all Elite controllers get stick drift after about 2 months 🥲)

ELITE controllers have software in the controller that centers the stick automatically just like the new controllers with the new center button. ​@@eXcess-music

Old controllers may not have a built-in chip to keep the settings made by the software or even to simply update them. This may be one of the reasons why the software is not compatible with these controllers. They would lose their setting the second they were unplugged. It would therefore be necessary to use permanently open software to provide the controller settings directly, as Steam does for example.

I saw notes somewhere on this calibration app, it said it was for recalibration once analogue sticks had been replaced. So it doesn't need the nubs twisting on the stick to centre centre a new stick. (Kinda like the factory programmed center) Certainly won't fix drift caused by physical damage to pots like Joe public will expect it to.

tbh i used the software to calibrate and i followed every instruction word for word visual for visual and it made my controller 100% fucked when i move forwards it goes backwards and i go right it goes left i haven’t even done anything to invert the controls and it decided to do that so i don’t think imma ever use this again

How come I get the option to calibrate a normal Xbox controller but when I attempt to calibrate an elite 2 it doesn’t show up? Happens both on pc and Xbox. Is there any other way to calibrate them?

Is it normal for these kinds of controllers to come with very severe stick drift alongside the console? My one has such severe drift that i can move the stick up and it stays just below the large ring in the left stick in particular and it very quickly developed after about a week or so of me using it

So I just took mine apart to “fix” the stick drift issue. After taking the thumb stick off, I took a thin angle tool and slightly wedged it into the green sensor opening it slightly with some pressure and pushing it back. I then very carefully jetted the inside with duster to get anything out of it. After calibration I noticed the stick drift, that I knew it had since it was brand new, was not only gone but in the calibration menu the circle stayed locked into the center of the crosshair. Haven’t had an issue yet.

Factory sticks normally well calibrated but you can’t calibrate 3rd party potentiometer or Hall effect sticks with it what makes this tool pretty useless P.S this would be crucial if we could calibrate Hall effect sticks with it, it does get the job done, but for some reason not for long

Nope. there is no reset unfortunately. Best advice I can give is to follow the calibration instructions and do it slowly and precisely.

It's not common to have Elite 2 show the calibration option.. I've have it with Elite 2's fresh from M$ warranty and Elite 2's that have been purchased from the M$ Lab store.

Because the official XboX Series controller apparently contains a memory chip which allows it to be updated and to keep in memory the fixes made by the qualibration software. Controllers from other brands may not have a memory chip that the software can read and modify, or even no memory chip at all.

that brand new standard, vanilla xbox controller was fine. the stick not being perfectly centered is a non-issue because of the deadzone built it, which you cannot customize with this standard controller. Literally the little bits of wiggle in the center wouldnt register because of deadzone. That brand new controller was working just fine. If you want perfect centering and care about deadzone, go with a premium controller.

@@Mordaur so you can calibrate center point but the unusable end where +1/-1 are you can't adjust those we need a v4 hall sensor, the sensors must max out about about 80% of the physical travel. I need to actually test that but bit busy atm to be messing about with the pile of pads by my decks.

This won't work for Xbox one controllers nor rev 1 or rev 2, only for Xbox Series S/X controller and Elite controllers. If the controller is for xbox one the calibration option won't appear.

It's perfect centered aprox 0,002 axis precision. Circularity is also corrected to around 10% and 8% in my case. I almost didn't believe it hahaha

So... Hall sensors, ha still can't get full range from them. That outside 20% is still dead space so we need a v4 version. Or better software. The bottom right on the right stick is intermittently affected by the vibration motors!! 😂 Which was a fun discovery. However. I have found a supplier to buy new springs from. I tried 800g/mm and oh my. How stiff my thumb stick has become!! 😂 Looks like a new spring is 280g/mm for reference. But it's £4 - £5 for two springs! 😮

Someone's comment made me think. We might be able to at least balance the left right Vs center if we don't need to center first. So when you instal the hall sensor get it balanced side to side so the gap either side to 1 is the same and then center them in software so it's linear as possible.

Eventually your analog joys needs to be replaced. There is no way around this. This is extremely useful for that situation, so you can calibrate your brand new analog joys, and you don't have to do it manually which is a pain.

You know, it's really pathetic that Microsoft refused to support older controllers. Personally, I collect some older controllers because I prefer the older design. To just cut out one generation is sort of pathetic by them. It really goes to show that the company is more focused on making a buck rather than supporting players.

I've replaced a lot of analog sticks in Xbox controllers and I was using 2 potentiometers PCB so far. Today I gave it a shot on my test controller after replacing 2 sticks, but it seems that something is wrong with this tool. I did calibration of 2 sticks and after doing full circles a few times in the tester my left stick was pushed to the max left and the right one to the down. After disconnecting the USB cable and plugging it back sticks are back in the centre but after doing full circles a few times it does the same thing. The calibration is very finicky. It never perfect. Just get it to the outside and 90 degrees. Wast that with the boards in the shell with caps on?
