Xbox already is a 3rd party developer. - Their games will continue to go to PlayStation - Even less people will buy an Xbox - Less Xboxes being sold means less third party games going to Xbox - Less third party games going to Xbox means even less people will buy an Xbox - Microsoft sees how low Xbox sales are and discontinues the Xbox - Sony raises prices for games and consoles, starts taking a bigger cut for games sold on their platform.

Xbox were forced to try a new angle when PS4 crushed them, but it failed so now the Xbox console is screwed. MS know Xbox cannot win by simply making the most powerful console. PS2 was not the most powerful console and the 360 was not the most powerful console, but they were market leaders. PS5 is not the most powerful console but it's the market leader. The trick is to feed your console with lots of very high quality exclusives. You can share that tip with Phil Spencer.

The thing that pisses me off is that their communication about all of this has been non-existent, apart from that weird short video a few months ago that only seemed to happen because their brand was melting down online for about two weeks - but even then, they took great pains to minimize things as much as possible. It was "only" four games that had been out for a long time, blah blah blah. Spencer even confirmed Indiana Jones wasn't one of them. Then we hear nothing for months, while rumours and reports continue to swirl about games being considered, with zero comment from them at all. And then they drop this on their userbase - the first notable big release since Starfield after months of nothing, and it's getting four months of exclusivity before it goes to PS5 anyway. And not only that, but the PS5 announcement is treated as the big reveal. You wanna just become the next Sega? Okay. Give me the $500 back I paid for my Xbox, after foolishly investing in your platform believing you meant to actually deliver games I couldn't just play on my PS5 in a few months. Idiots.

This just isn't reality. In every interview they've done since they've alluded to the fact that more games are going multiplatform. Phil Spencer in an interview with the Verge around the same time as the Xbox update said that nothing is off the table and that he believes exclusives are a thing of the past. Right after the Xbox Games Showcase when Doom was announced for all platforms day one, Phil did an interview with IGN and again confirmed that it's case by case and that the ID team wanted to be on all platforms so he said let them do that. It's not that Xbox hasn't said anything. It's that you choose to live in some alternate reality. Even in the business update the language they used very very purposefully opened the door to future games exclusivity being up in the air. All that said, this game is actually quite the special case. It's a licensed game that was licensed by Disney originally BEFORE the aquistion. Post Xbox's purchase, Microsoft renegotiated the deal which was revealed in the FTC case. However they had to convince Disney that it would be BETTER to make the game available to less people and on less platforms. It makes a lot of sense to me that they were only able to do so for a limited amount of time. And who knows how that affected rules regarding marketing. All of this stuff is unfortunately behind closed doors and we only got it due to the case and discovery (the legal process).

It doesn't make sense how they announced Indy for the PS5. Why do this here at Gamescom? How does it help XBox or Microsoft? Use the game, if its any good, to sell some consoles and Gamepass subscriptions this Holiday. If you get one PS5 user to buy an XBox or join Gamepass because they want to play Indy then you've succeeded. You can announce the PS5 version after the new year. You're not getting any more sales by announcing the PS5 version early. Nobody is budgeting for Indy coming in the Spring! I can think of reasons why it would help. Not saying they're better than the negatives. But I can think of reasons. 1. It will get a higher review score than if it wasn't announced for PlayStation. 2. It's been made incredibly clear Xbox doesn't see much merit in having exclusive games anymore. People are getting irrationally angry and they do this every five seconds with Xbox. The Spider-Man exclusivity deal that Sony has with Marvel only covers that one series (Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2). Sony does not have the video game rights to Spider-Man, those belong to Disney. Sony only has the movie rights to Spider-Man.

Yep, PC is the way to go moving forward. Consoles are effectively mini PCs now anyway, so I would honestly tell everyone to save for a gaming PC rather than save for the PS5 Pro, or the PS6. I made the mistake of buying a PS5 and it's been sat on my PC desk for a year, mostly doing nothing, because I play on my PC most of the time. On PC you get PlayStation ports that are enhanced over the PS5 version, you get all the Xbox games, and you can save some money on software and sign up for PC Game Pass if you wish.

Releasing your games first on other platforms is unbelievable. It's been plainly obvious that Xbox is no longer operationally independent in Microsoft. Game Pass and it's hunger for titles has brought Xbox closer and closer to the attention of Microsoft executives after all these big spends now needing an ROI. You only need to watch Microsoft's own documentary on Xbox to know that the company at large never really understood Xbox and it worked best when it was left alone. Literally the whole reason the Xbox One failed was because of mission drift and executive creep as they seen the opportunity for the Xbox to take on Apple TV. This is not Phil Spencer, which is why he's been quiet again. This is straight from the top of Microsoft. Yes, you still do need an xbox. At launch it is less expensive than a pc for the same hardware specifications, and you have access to Game Pass. No Game Pass on Playstation for now. The games are also optimized for a closed console platform. ❤

I REALLY don't like how much you're really defending the PC near the latter half dude. Not many us want to be PC players and many of us don't want to lose any more reason to owning one of these consoles when it comes to these exclusives. The main point we buy these consoles was FOR THE EXCLUSIVE TITLES! Even as far back as the previous generation with the Xbox One there were reasons to even purchase one for a lot of those exclusives. The fact that they're now just doing this BS now along with Sony putting their first party titles on PC? Ignoring all the studios they bought when it comes to said games being multiplatform already, it all just brings up the same exact question You asked after I've been asking this for the past day now of what really IS the point of owning an Xbox anymore if the exclusives being put out AREN'T legit exclusives anymore! And as someone that owns a PS5 but still has a One X because of this issue with the Series X, it just makes it even more prevalent an issue on both sides. It's quite nice of Xbox to announce the PS5 ports of their games on a public stage and in the trailers on their own KZbin channel to make sure that everyone, even the hardcore fan who only follows official Xbox social media channels, knows, that they don't need another Xbox console. I don't get the drama of the fans. "It's coming to Playstation" doesn't mean, "don't buy an Xbox." (I say this as an Xbox fan) Xbox cannot compete on consoles by relying on exclusive titles. People won't buy Xboxes en-mass because of some killer exclusive. They are trying to make a market where they can sell their console purely on the merit of the console device itself: the graphical power and features, the UI, the ecosystem, the controller specs, the customizability. Hence, there's still good reason to by an Xbox in today's gaming market. You just don't need an Xbox to play most Xbox games--something other console-makers don't offer. In summation, they are simply trying to diversify their gaming business engagement avenues and maximize their revenue by selling multi-plat. I think this is to the benefit of Xbox fans.

This is the correct take, if you’re looking at the business the way MS looks at the business. All these console warriors and content creators are unwilling to see the future which is one where Xbox survives on its games and Gamepass. As an Xbox fan I’m very worried. They’re giving their exclusive games to Sony. To me it seems like they are going to leave the console business eventually. That would be horrible. Their main focus is game pass. That’s fine but I love playing on my Xbox. I just hope they don’t quit making consoles. This is looking like Sega all over again.

Couldn't disagree more with this video. Let's say MS doesn't announce Indy for PS5 now and does it after the holidays. That would easily translate into the media decrying, "Indie was a failure; GamePass is cratering; Xbox gives up; Machine Games is on the chopping block." This is why it pays to not be loyal to one brand over another. Buy whatever makes the most sense, and if that happens to be Xbox games on a PlayStation then so be it. I'm with Brad here and prefer the Xbox platform and controllers, but Microsoft need game sales long term and if the only way they can do that is to expand their reach to the competition, then so be it, let people who bought a PlayStation enjoy Microsoft's games. Remember that Microsoft is a software company, this whole "keep Xbox games on Xbox only" mantra is reminding me of what happened a decade ago when Microsoft Office first got ported to iOS, Windows Phone fans were livid because it took away one key advantage of a Windows Phone, but money talks and the only real way Microsoft could keep Office relevant at the time was to expand it beyond Windows. As much as I loved and adored Windows Phone too, it was failing so why keep the cash cow locked down to an also-ran platform. The same is true for Xbox, I love Xbox but it's currently the also-ran, and while it's nowhere near as dire as Windows Phone was 10 years ago, Microsoft still need to make a profit and keeping Xbox games just to their own console and store isn't viable long term.

Something worth remembering is Indiana Jones is a licensed game and it was revealed that Microsoft had to renegotiate the license post aquistion for it to not to launch on all platforms day one. The FTC case revealed they had to CONVINCE Disney it would be better. It makes a lot of sense to me that they could only get a limited timed release and not that long of one. Disney wants a lot from a licensed game like Indiana Jones (especially with them trying to bring the franchise back) and it benefits them much more to support every platform they can. Edit: Okay, I'm sorry, but why do so many comments sound so... whinny? Like I truly and fundamentally don't understand why gamers feel personally attacked that this game they presumably like is getting made available to more popular in like half a year. Like what? The framings are that Xbox made a dumb business decision... why? Exclusives have failed to grow the console market in 20 YEARS! The best sold console is the PS2 at 155m and it's lifecyle was 1999 to 2006. Playstation consoles have been selling less ever since (a noticeable bit: the PS4 sold less than 120m) and Xbox consoles have always been in a steady third place. At this point they're competiting for marginal differences all while costs skyrocket and total users stay steady. Rather I'd argue exclusives were the worst mistake consoles ever made (well among them) and a big reason why casuals don't take to consoles and we see more of an uptick in gaming on mobile and PC now. Xbox itself is raking in more money than ever. Over 20 billion annually and even ignoring ABK (which... I mean they did literally purchase) Xbox is consistently pulling in over 15 billion in revenue. That's more consistently than ever and the peak was 16 billion in 2022/2021 when gaming as an industry was doing...better. I mean seriously just take a moment and actually look at reality. Xbox is fine. I'm more worried for Playstation with Sony literally phasing out their disc drive model to push for the slim at the base price of $500 but all digital. Sony is also putting their games on PC and killing off their true exclusives. The market just has never been benefited by exclusives. A platform isn't dying because they realize this. And heck if Xbox as a platform was dying would you want everything to go down with it? People are afraid of Xbox's library becoming inaccessible when that's what happens every generation give or take on PS and Nintendo. Game libraries don't have a consistent history of transferring over and ONLY xbox has free cloud saves (well and PC). Xbox is no longer than a plastic box and that's good. If Consoles truly do die, they'll still be one of the biggest gaming ecosystems globally and still be able to get produce games. Meanwhile how many projects has Sony canceled? And that's not to say Xbox hasn't canceled any but that the industry is in turmoil. Consoles just aren't the future and that's not because of cloud or mobile; that's just because they insisted on putting up walls and making the market confusing and daunting to consumers.

Honestly, ever since E-Day was announced, I want a new Xbox just to sit back and play games and not sit at my PC. But I like to own my games, feel like I own them, and when services go away, and all I can do is plug the console into a TV with no internet. Consoles were built from day one to play exclusive games! I like my Xbox because I can put any of my old games in it and it works backwards compatible. I like owning my games I don’t like Netflix my games to where they can just take them away when I wanna but any gamer that’s a gamer has an Xbox series X and a PlayStation 5 I don’t see why it matters. What people need to understand is PlayStation and xbox are different. PlayStation has most of the market. Xbox bought all these studios because PlayStation was locking down exclusive backdoor deals with all these companies so xbox didn’t want to fall further behind so xbox bought the studios PlayStation was trying to gate keep. Now PlayStation when they buy a studio they make it exclusive because they own most of the market. Xbox doesn’t. So they bought these studios to make it so we can all get them day one and so Sony didn’t make all these exclusive deals to gatekeep games and exclusive skins. How awful would it be if all of Bethesda’s and Activision games never came to xbox? Xbox bought them so they would come to xbox not to gatekeep them from Sony players. First off regulators won’t allow xbox to horde all these games cuz it hurts consumers (Sony players are consumers) regulators protect consumers, so their job is to protect xbox and PlayStation players and make sure when acquisitions go through consumers aren’t harmed in the process. PlayStation hurts xbox players all day every day but they hold most of the market so in the eyes of the regulators they’re allowed but for xbox to harm the majority of gamers on PlayStation that would upset regulators. Microsoft has always tried to play by the rules cuz they want to cooperate with regulators. And that’s what they’re doing. They’re keeping games on all platforms cuz when they made games exclusive the ftc used it against xbox and tried to block the deal from going through so xbox is playing nice and sharing to please regulators. Cuz when they please regulators that means they are allowed to keep acquiring more studios but they have to play by the rules and not gate keep. But for some reason the ftc doesn’t care if PlayStation gate keeps since they have majority of the market and their job is to please consumers and most consumers are on PlayStation. Xbox is trying to keep xbox alive by playing by the rules and making it so xbox players at least have all the big games instead of PlayStation locking down all the big exclusives.

I think this shows, whatever internal conflict there was at MS, Phil lost, and the shareholders board members, and biggest investors won. Phil will get to make another Xbox, but I'm wondering if this was the deal he had to accept to get that approved at this point. I don't see why anyone is surprised if you can't see where MS is headed then you never will. They are in it to make money and if you want them to end up like Sony then you need them to make money off of these games. MS is concentrating on PC and mobile consoles are not the main focus as much as they were in the past. Get used to most of these games going to PS5. I can see Stalker 2 and Starfield going over next summer. Once again MS messaging is horrible they really just need to be transparent and say hey we are a 3rd party publisher that has a service and sells hardware.

I'm perfectly fine with Xbox going full third party, but if they are planning to keep making hardware I'd prefer if Game Pass isn't the ONLY reason to get it. So let's see. If the remove the Game Pass requirement for multiplayer is a good start. If the hardware is even more powerful and runs Steam games, that would surely help. So once again I'll let them show us how they intend to make us interested in new Xbox hardware. Having games play best on Playstation, especially with the PS5 Pro coming, isn't going to be a good look.

Marvel VS Capcom collection (a collection of one of the best fighting games ever made, my personal favorite). Stellar Blade (another hit of 2024) Whats the point of owning an Xbox? And don't tell me it's gamepass because gamepass for pc is cheaper and has more stuff than the game pass core and the other tier they release. 9:13 ..Don't be like me, Don't buy a PC. I gave up console gaming long time ago, in 2019 sold my PS4 Pro and got a PC. That was my biggest gaming mistake. Here's why, I have little time to game, at max I have 2 hours to spare every two days. PC games rarely work as consoles do, the plug-and-play aspect. On PS4 you buy a game and play, and on PC you gotta learn how to tinker and read speck and diagnose games and jump through internet forums before you have any fun, it's frustrating to come home to a game that doesn't work on a PC that costs 3x a console and play nothing cause you ran out of play time troubleshooting games, I quit gaming cause it became less fun and more just wasting time..
