I got a 1440p 144hz , freesync, hdr monitor. That seems like the sweetspot to me. With 4k its much harder to run at 120. Not to mention my monitor only costs 400 as compared to a $2000 tv with the same specs but 4k.

That’s a really good monitor, for the same price I got 4K 60fps, freesync. So no hdr or 144hz. So depends on what trade off you want

I just did mine via USB. If you find correct file then doing it from USB it not harmful. I did that always on my E6 FOR LAST 4 YEARS, For some reason I never got automatic updates and I had to download manually.

Hi all - firstly thanks for this video, been looking to see others experience with xbxsx so far. I set up just yesterday and attempted to play valhalla. Here is what i noted using with my LG C9: Attempted to set the xbox sx to 4k 120hz with VRR enables. Huge black vertical stripe appears. I set mode to go back but entire screen goes black and have to restart console. I then attempted 4k @120hz without VRR enabled. Some success no vertical bar. However. When starting Valhalla i noted again vertically in middle of screen weird distortion appearing which would not go away. Bottom line: had to go back to 4k @ 60hz for now with VRR enabled. So far no issues...but seems like this is an issue with TVs not being ready yet? Not sure...hope everyone else is having better luck but most of all enjoying their consoles :)

Man. Really appreciate your comment. I just finished my review with Samsung Q800T and had zero issues with anything that I tried. I guess the reason why Samsung is official TV for Xbox. I will test my CX next. Let's see if I encounter the same issues. Samsung has been the best so far but I have to test LG CX now.

If i remember correctly i found some forums last night and i believe Samsung sorted out some firmware updates which resolved these issues- which is great! Really hope LG pull their finger out and do the same soon... please do let us know what you experience when you test with your CX... PS i wonder if LG is patiently waiting until PS5 releases next week wating to hear issues then will do a firmware for both ps5 & xbox sx... (would have thought they already have test consoles to play with 120hz VRR considering the whole Nvidia issues recently!) will have to wait and see I guess

Yes on console frames dont drop like the way they drop and increase on PC. developers usually target for 120 and try to maintain quality at 120fps.

If it's anything like the RU8000. It can't handle 4k 120hz on hdmi 2.0. You should try using 1440p 120hz. My RU8000 works this way. At 1440p 120hz it should be around 6.3 ms of input lag. I can vouch for the RU8000 at 1440p 120hz it's as fast as my LG C1 1440p 120hz which also is 6.3 ms.

I have the 82" Q60T, it does not at 4k. It switches to 1440p when I turn on 120hz.

@@huntii I think the problem is that the monitor or tv just ain’t relevant at all. You need something with hdmi 2.1 or whatever the new one is. But only TVs have that right now but monitors with it are being released this holiday season I think. So you need to get a tv or monitor with 120hz at least and hdmi 2.1. That’s the only way you can run it

Hey can you help me figure this out? I tried using my Asus 144hz Monitor with my new Xbox series X today and in the settings it’s 1080p but stuck at 60hz refresh rate. Yet my PC with Display Port is 144, so I know it does 144hz refresh rate. The Xbox settings doesn’t even give me an option to change the Hz setting. All it allows is for me to go down to 720p if I want. Is my monitor just not good with HDMI? My monitor is Asus 24in Full HD 1ms 144hz, model MG248 or MG248QR. I can see when I click the actual monitors settings it’s just stuck at 1080p 60hz. I’m thinking from looking at the other comments maybe the HDMI port is an older version? That would suck because I got a PC like 2 months ago and JUST bought this new monitor for around $250 I’d hate to buy another one :( if so any “cheap” monitor recommendations?

I wish I had a solution for that, but it is really frustrating to know that it is not supporting your monitor. This is so far 1440p and 4K at higher refresh connects easily. I will try if I can find a high refresh monitor in 1080p resolution.

Eu deixo no modo jogo mesmo ,pois testando aqui e jogando a uns 3 metros não percebi piora da imagem no modo jogo ativado e desativado, fica top do mesmo jeito

Gears 5 has support for 4K@120fps, while Modern Warfare is limited to 60fps, as far as I know. Modern Warfare gave me a lot of stuttering when I tried 120hz display mode @4K on my Q80T

I have the same TV model and it is working fine. Did you manually download the latest firmware for TV. There is one available on Samsung website. Update your TV if it is not updated , it was big file.

Samsung QE55Q80T not good 4k120hz VRR. Assassins Creed Valhalla Long tested Xbox Series X(Hdmi 2.1, hdmi 4 slot) . Q80T FW 1403 verzion. 4k60hz VRR+Game mode = OK 4k120hz VRR+Game mode = NOK (Sometimes black screen)

Not really on my Samsung QLED Q800T / Q850T. I will check with LG OLED CX next to see if there are any issues there. So far so good on Samsung with VRR Freesync enabled.

Just cause your screen refresh rate is at 120hz doesn’t mean you’re getting 120fps. Needs an FPS counter.

So i have a ben Q zowie xl2411p monitor and it supports 1080 144hz. I just got the series x and when i plug the hdmi cable that comes with the xbox to my monitor it only gives me 60hz because i guess the monitor only gives 120hz if its dvi. I have a dvi cable that came with the monitor and i use that with the xbox and the 120hz shows up but the problem is i have a message on my screen that doesnt go away. “Incorrect cable. Please use the dvi dual link cable that came with your monitor.” I need help on why thats showing, is my dvi cable out dated. Does my ben q monitor not support 144hz at all... pls help.

It just activates game mode if your TV has it. Though some TV's auto do it themselves. I never tested it off. Last yes game mode might degrade your image, because it disables all the TV's post processing. Really it doesn't unless you have the wrong settings.

I really don't care about 4k, I'm just looking for a great 1080p 120hz experience. Kinda sad that i can't use vrr on my monitor, but it should be locked to 120hz anyway I'll get the ps5 btw, i just wondered how the consoles do the refresh rate settings

my vrr makes it self grey out after turning off the xbox and then turning it on i need to change the out everytime to fix the greyed vrr option to enable it what might be the problem i use a freesync hdmi 2.0 monitor it has freesync premium model is asus vg27vq

do you need 2.1 for 2k 120fps? I have a 4k 144hz monitor that I would like to run at 2k and 120fps for certain games (it doesn't have 2.1) but on my settings menu it shows that my display doesn't allow 120hz refresh

Yes HDMI 2.1 is needed to do 120fps on console with 4K resolution. You should be fine with 1440p and 120hz

monitor needs hdmi 2.1 for 4k 120fps, otherwise you can use hdmi 2.0 for 4k60 or 2k120

I need some tips/explanation from anyone that knows this stuff. I just got a 144 hz monitor that came with a HDMI cable as well. I go to my Xbox and change it to 120hz. I know Xbox caps at 60 FPS. Should I set my Xbox to 120hz? Or should change it back down to 60hz?

Set it to 120 - your screen will refresh at 120hz even though your game is 60fps and you will get a smoother experience. Digital Foundry has a video about the topic.

Go to video fidelity and overscan then override the recommended option and set it to HDMI. Then you can change the resolution of ur screen and the hz output 👍

Does your monitor have hdmi 2.1 input or a a 2.0? Make sure and double check your monitors manual to see. It's probably only a 2.0

Hdmi 2.0 allows you to get 120hz at 1080p and 4k60hz, 2.1 is able to get up to 4k120hz but let's be realistic, the console will not out put any games at that frame rate, it'll explode lol

That vizio doesnt have a 120hz screen. It is a native 60hz screen so that is the limit.
