@Consolerepairstore2 жыл бұрын
You can't just replace the SSD. I have bought the exact same model Western Digital SSD that the Series X & S models use. Cloning them does work but you can't just pop in a blank one or formatted one to NTFS with a GPT Partition. You can't even get into recovery mode. It turns on and shuts off. You can't clone from one and put it another.. it just does not work.. even though I have the ones that Microsoft uses. There is an extra partition on the original SSD that is unformatted. I have no clue what it is. There is defiantly something stopping us from just charging out the SSD. Its not going to be as easy as the Xbox One. Modern Vintage Gamer is right about something custom that may be unique to each Console that it sees on the SSD to boot. I am sure someone will figure out the method to run a script to get around this and format/partition the SSD. Your only option right now is to make a clone of your SSD and keep it safe in case your original SSD goes up. I have tried cloning the SSD's to other brands that have the same specs as the original SSD's and have the same forum factor. They are manufactured by Samsung, Toshiba and Sk hynix. It will not clone at all. These SSD's will only clone to the same WD SN530 SSD's.

When are console developers going to realize that 4TB SSDs should come standard??? It’s not like they don’t make their money on the console sales anyhow, they make it on games, DLC, GamePass subscriptions, etc. subsidizing the cost will not affect the cost of the console to an unobtainable degree. 1TB is NOT enough in the day and age of 100+GB game file sizes.

People are often complaining about the SSD. PS5's is soldered in, and the expansion slot is no different than the expansion slots on xbox's functionality on the back of the XBOX Other than size variations (these things are expensive regardless) you can buy up to 2tb from seagate for xbox, and they go on sale somewhat. If you find a cheaper format of a different type, its still more of a process and you don't have the same standardization imho. Like thumb-drives they aren't all made equal, some are trash, and cheap. Xbox does force you into "seagate" or "wd" but they are both quality. Xbox made it extremely easy to upgrade. If your internal ssd goes bad, ps5's is soldered in so it's not like that's better .

Sure you can put a 2tb ssd inside.... But you'll just have a very expensive paperweight. As of this time, you CANNOT switch/swap/replace the internal xbox series x ssd. Even cloning a very similar (in size and capacity) m.2 ssd drive, doesn't work. And this is all from people within the repair industry that know what they are doing.
@zero000442 жыл бұрын
@@D.K81 you probably never will be able to either. Seems microsoft is really wanting people to only use the overpriced proprietary expansion cards. I feel that's going to go about as well as the overpriced proprietary memory cards that sony designed for the ps vita.
@D.K812 жыл бұрын
@@zero00044 I agree. Microsoft has this expansion storage locked down to the point it's just easier and less hassle to buy an external SSD and call it done. @zero000442 жыл бұрын
@@D.K81 I did find that some Chinese manufacturer is making an expansion card adapter that you can put your own m.2 ssd inside. Kind of how there were 3rd party memory stick pro duo adapters for the psp that let you use a cheaper micro sd card. Seems to only work with specific ones though. Pretty much the same ones microsoft uses. I think there is a list somewhere of the exact models that work. Eventually I'm hoping someone just makes a cable that plugs into the expansion slot and let's you use your own ssd at the same speed or even play the newer games directly off of a slower mechanical hard drive. I've never really cared about fast load times. Just browse youtube or read something short while waiting lol.
