@Mattie432 trust me is easy to use paperclip to open disc drive you just have to stick it in the middle to open when I clean the mechanism disc drive.

Thank you for this video. My tray had been jammed for months and none of the other things I tried worked. Turns out that a small piece of the tray was broken and jamming the tray. I was able to fix it and my Xbox is working great now!

You don't have to disassemble the console for this! Just get yourself a flashlight (I used my phone's light), power off console, use a paperclip to open tray, remove the band, wipe it (I used some antibacterial wet wipe), then reverse it (so that the inner side is facing out and not touching the gears), put it back on. First put it on the small motor gear, then as much as you can on the big gear and turn it (the big gear) clockwise while holding the band so it doesn't slip off. Voila! It's like new now... Just bought a used arcade jasper.

I bought my 360 about 10-11 years ago when they were only out a few years. I got it for $60 when they were reselling used for $100-150 more than that because the drive wouldn't open, and it came with no cords or controllers. I just pried the face off and dealt with it not opening for years. Not sure why, but I guess I decided to fix it, and watched this video. It's been working perfectly for a few days now, and I don't know why I waited so long to fix it. For the first time since I've owned this machine, the face facade is in place and the drawer slides out every time! Thanks!

@@flugamelu I was having the same problem at the 3min point of opening the case. There are 5 sliders on onside that need to depressed all together. Doing then without a specific tool designed to release all together makes it very tricky. I did manage, but only with help of someone pulling the case apart whilst I released each clip.

Thanks for that video! I had a bid on eBay for a replacement DVD drive, started to think that replacing it could get complicated if flashing the "new" drive were a requirement, and then I stumbled across your video. I did as you prescribed, and now it's working like a champ! I have another Xbox exhibiting intermittent problems of the same nature, and did that one as well. The other one had about a pound of dust inside, and cleaning it out using a service vacuum cleaner fixed the loud fans.

You are the man Mattie! You're instructions were very detailed and to the point. They were so good in fact that I didn't even bother opening my Xbox. I could see the rubber band that you were talking about when the tray was open. With some finesse and dexterity I was able to pull it out, clean it and replace it. I also was able to clean the pulleys. My tray is now working like a champ again. Thank you very much for your tutorial!

you are an amazing young man, i fixed it! One suggestion though, i noticed on the main wheel where you pulled the band from? The brass or copper looking post in the middle of the wheel was sticking up slightly, and would catch on the bottom of the tray. with some pressure, it popped back down and the tray was free to move.

thanks alot bro. my sons xbox was jammed and misaligned. I used your video to dismantle the xbox safely and correctly. cleaned the dust out to keep it clean. then gently pulled out disk tray. I then completely removed the disk tray gently (was tricky) but by following the track lines it clicked back and re aligned. checked carefully with power on and it worked sweet. thanks for this video. really easy to follow.

Still helping people like me even today lol BTW for anyone wondering, you can do this WITHOUT taking it apart, like he said though its harder. I just turned the 360 off, popped off the front panel, spun the wheel while everything was together with a toothpick, then did the same process as in the video with a pair of tweezers. To get the band back on (with tweezers) just hook the small wheel on first, then the front of the big wheel and then bring the band around the side and to the back of the big wheel and drop it down. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE VIDEO!!

I used a paperclip to open the drive and then I could see the wheels and band so cleaned them with a brush with some isopropyl on it. Thank's for showing where it all was. I also heard from other comments that if you leave a disk in it will never ever fail to open - no idea if it's true but no harm in trying. Cheers.

Thanks for this. I was able to spin the drive belt manually by taking off the front case and swiping a screwdriver over the belt until it popped open! Unfortunately, the drive won't read any discs, so I'll have to figure that out soon.

Thanks for this video. Cleaning the small belt worked! However, I just opened the tray and grabbed the belt with some tweezers, cleaned it, and put it back on w/the same tweezers. There was no need to take apart the entire xbox.
