Amazing! We've had console tech wikis for years and this is the first time I've seen someone cover all four drive types. Can't wait for repair guides for other consoles.

I agree, I've never seen anyone else do a guide for all 4 dvd drives...

Neither have I. I've only ever seen videos discussing single drives at a time too, so I figured this could help a lot of people. I'm glad I can help though!

@gamejaeger While I surely haven't had as many xboxes pass through my hands/work on as you have, I've probably had 20-30 over the years and haven't had a single Hitachi DVD drive.

It's funny you say that because it has taken me months and months to find one lol. Out of all of the ones I've opened up recently, I've only found one. I guess it makes sense though, if I remember correctly they were only available on the 1.6 version Xbox units.

For opening the xbox without damaging the labels, I use a hairdryer to heat up the label and then gently peal it away from the screw hole. It's usually easier to remove the whole label than leave it half stuck on and flapping around while you are working on the xbox. Temporarily stick it to a clean CD / DVD case and reheat it to remove and replace on the xbox when you're ready to close it up again. HTH

Thanks, that's a good tip! I was really concerned early on with that, especially with my personal collection items. But I didn't want to hide the fact it was opened to new buyers so that's why I cut a small whole in them now.

@@gamejaeger makes sense. 😊

For personal stuff, for sure, take them off slow and make sure they aren't damaged. I really like the look of clean labels.

Nice video. I have a question about the 50 pcs belts on amazon with sizes 40-135 mm. How will that work on the Samsung drive where you say it must be 35-36 mm ? Just wondering as im thinking of buying that one.
@gamejaeger2 ай бұрын
It's funny you should ask... I literally just ran out of the 35-36mm belts a few days ago and needed to swap out some more on a few Samsung and Philips drives I had and tried the ones from that pack. Well, lets just say it's a bit loose... I don't know what I was originally thinking but this pack was really just to get replacements for the Thomson drive belts, the smaller ones do not work for the other drives. I know Console5 sells both styles now too, so they are a good option if you just need a few of each too. I've been buying the smaller bands linked in the description on eBay and they are a good quality.

Changing out the belt didn't help with my Hitachi-LG drive at all. It's worse now. And absolutely none of the videos ive watched show the proper alignment for the tray or shows all the parts and any plastic nubs and what nots are all there. My drive makes a terrible noise.

Hitachi's are rare to find so I'm not surprised there isn't much info online. And by "worse" do you mean it's still ejecting? At 6:19 you can see how the tray is in place on the top, there's not much to it though. Just a few tabs on each side to slip the tray edges under so it doesn't come out of alignment. The first thing I'd check is the alignment on the bottom of the tray though. Just to make sure it's not jumping a track or damaged in any way and maybe slowly pull it in and out to see if its getting hung up anywhere. If it is, it could be that the bottom nub that closes the tray is out of place. I don't remember offhand if Hitachi's do but I know the other models have a "track" that nub fits into and if its not in the right spot it can cause issues. If that's all good, and it ejects but sounds terrible or is stuttering when moving then I would think about lubing up the tray edges to see if that helps. If that doesn't then maybe the motor/ opening mechanism is going or has some cracked parts on it? Those would be the areas I would check to see about getting it working but good luck, there are a lot of weird things that can happen to these. Hopefully you can get it working though!

Mine's a samsung, which is thirty five and the kit only comes with forty and above😊
@gamejaeger23 сағат бұрын
Correct, I just have the kit of random sizes in the description in case other places like Console5 are out of stock for the large bands that are used in the Thomsons (at the time of this comment, they are out of stock again too). I buy the smaller bands from eBay and those have worked out great so far for Samsung and the rest of the manufacturers.
